Now a second red card for the Spurs, Foyth now also off and Spurs down to 9. That does not bode well for the meeting with Ajax

Dier should have been red carded for either of the two fouls or the penalty he got away with, all after his first yellow. It's a pity for Bournemouth's rookie keeper, Mark Travers. First time in a first team match, facing Spurs, makes four good saves to keep Bournemouth in the game, and hardly anyone notices!

Well..again depends on what reaction the Tottenham players will have to this defeat.

Will they self destruct or act like a wounded bear and strike back... I am hoping for the first, but fear the second.

The same goes tomorrow for Ajax when they play to win the National soccer cup (the UK variant of the FA cup).

Congrats on the win.. Good motivation.

Salah out against Barca.

I still think Ajax can do it since they mentally should be better than Tottenham.

I agree, the chances are not too shabby. But I am not sure that without Salah Liverpool can turn the tide against Messi/Suarez.

Hopefully Ajax will also make it through to the final and we will get a match between 2 of the old super soccer powers in Europe. What a match that would be.

Yea.. No idea what happened to Barca...it was not that Liverpool played great, but that Barcelona played so bad that was the difference. The amount of lost balls was unforgivable...like 3rd division club.

Barcelona completely collapsed mentally just like it happened to them so many times in recent UCL years.
I did not predict this. Good for Liverpool, Anfield is truly the biggest fortress.

Hopefully for them they don't lose both the EPL and the UCL in the final moments, that'd be awful.

I think Barca has a few good attackers but nobody to really drive the team if it is going difficulty. Next season with the help of several Ajax players they might be a bit better than now. They will with Frenkie de Jong on midfield and maybe 1 or 2 more Ajax players in defense they will get a bit better coming from behind. But what is the biggest problem is that the attackers are total primadonna's IMHO. The current Ajax team has attackers that hunt down the opposing defenders from the get go. That is something I have not seen Barca do because that is not who Messi and Suarez are, they are highly prized race horses, not proper work horses like de Jong is.

You are wrong. Messi and Suarez have a job to do and if the ball is in their area of the pitch they hunt it down. It is the present style of play.. the front 3 only do defensive work around the mid-line and onwards (and on corners of course). That is why Barca are normally so effective on counter attacks. This has been the style of Barca since efter Pep left. Is it a good thing.. not really, I would prefer the good old style of everyone working like nuts to get the ball back, but with Neymar everything changed.

What happened yesterday, was that there was a collective no hunting / closing down and when they finally had the ball there was very little movement for some reason, which lead to clear mistakes and missed passes and you had an absolute collapse of epic proportions. It is rare that a team have a collective day off this bad, and I can only remember two times off hand that Barca had such a day.. and that is over 15 or so years of watching them.

But calling Suarez and Messi primadonnas is harsh and if there are any primadonnas and arrogant idiots it is some of the Liverpool players and English media after the match. I admit fully that Barca did not deserve based on this game to go on, but calling this some sort of miracle or massive surprise or great comeback is taking the "nationalist pride" way too far. Any team could have done what Liverpool did yesterday because Barca were so so bad across the board. Comparing this to the battle of Istanbul is an insult to the true grit team of Istanbul.. at least Milan was actually playing football for all the game and Liverpool had to actually step up and do something. This game, Liverpool did nothing really spectacular, because Barca handed them all the goals due to poor defending, lack of concentration and over all horrible play.

Saying that, I agree that with De Jong, and maybe others, there might be a significant improvement in the midfield and maybe we can get back to something similar to Xavi and Iniesta again.. at least over the next few years. Coutinho is out imo.. he cant hack it on the big stage, unless he is willing to play in the central midfield as a real playmaker. Malcom should be loaned out and maybe Puig from the B side should get his chance. Barca should also cash in on Rakitic imo. Problem is Busquets, he aint as fast as he use to be. Defensively Barca are okay if they get De Ligt.. which means Lenglet or Umitti (most likely him) will leave. The tricky part is finding a back up/replacement for Suarez and someone to play on the left wing instead of Coutinho. No doubt that Barca are going into a rebuilding phase yet again..

Congrats to Spurs, sadly it was not to be. But for Ajax to come this far in the tournament was already a frigging miracle. Maybe better luck next season.

It's like football has suddenly become something entirely different this season. Bloody hell.

Ajax deserved the final more than Spurs. The second half by Ajax was bad for the first 30 minutes. But overall over two legs Ajax deserved it more sadly, but who would expect a hatrick from a Brazilian washout reserve player?

Ah well, still damned proud of my boys in Red and White. Hopefully we will win the title and be back in the champions league next season.

Perhaps you watched a different game to me.

Let's not forget that Barca certainly had their chances, especially in the first half. All they needed to do was maximize on one of them. One measly goal from the team with arguably the greatest goal scorer of all time. Alisson didn't let that happen. Don't try and downplay the part Alisson played in that.

Nope. My point is, it is easy to look good when the opposition is playing like ****. That's what happend on Tuesday. It does not take away the win or make it less, but trying to say that this rivaled the Istanbul miracle is dishonest and wrong. The lads in Istanbul played against a team that could actually defend and pass a ball. A team that dominated Liverpool at the start and so on. Barca was in this game for maybe 5 minutes and the rest of the time acted like a headless chicken.

The real question is who to support in the final....

Liverpool win would piss off Manchester and many in the UK.

Tottenham win would piss off Piers Morgan and all the arrogant delusional Arsenal fans...

Hard choices...
