England win the group and march on

England - Croatia was the best match of this UEFA Nations League tournament.
Began with Spain moving forward, then Croatia, then Spain again and then England in the last minutes.

I have to say I didn't have high hopes for this Nations League thing. Turned out to be a very good tournament.

Big game for Israel coming up

Not too sure about the whole Nations League yet but it is not over yet. The problem I see, is that the qualifying for the Euros is getting way more complicated....I have read the methods several times and still cant really figure out who or what from the Nations League qualify to the Euros. But what I do think I understand is, that the Nations League rankings will determine groups for the actual main qualifying which will make it interesting since some big teams have been relegated and "minor" teams promoted this time around. Also as I understand it, there is a bigger chance of qualification... which is kinda stupid in many ways as the next Euros will have the most teams in it ever so..

So I watched Tim Cahill play his last game for Australia tonight in a friendly against Lebanon.

108 appearances, 50 goals and four World Cup appearances. That's a fair effort. Thanks for the memories. "Timmy time" is officially over.

A real bummer for us.
We lost away to Albania mainly because of the late arrival of the new head coach Andy Herzog, otherwise we'd go through on away goals (2-3 L in Scotland compared to 2-1 W in Israel).
The fact that James Forrest turned this week into a Cristiano Ronaldo didn't help either.

Anyway congrats to Scotland, hopefully they'll make it through the UEFA qualifiers and that ticket will be ours.
(We'll most likely get a playoff ticket anyway because a lot of the teams ranked above Israel are sure to get through from the UEFA qualifiers.)

Scotland keeper Mcgregor pulled off some crazy saves as well

River plate fans put some of the Boca players in the hospital.

You don't think Luka Modric deserved it? Who would you have given it to?

Greizman or Mbappe.

Point is the top two were both from Real Madrid who won the CL and nothing else.

If you go by stats then Modric should not even be in the top 5. Messi had most goals and assists last season and most goals in CL. He came in at nr 5...

Is it by trophies? Modric got 1, Messi 3 and Mbappe got 4 including a World Cup.

So what gave Modric the top prize? The glaring one is he plays for Real Madrid. This is only emphasised by Ronaldo getting second ahead of Messi who beat him on all stats including trophies.

And let's not pretend it is the first time a Real Madrid player...aka Ronaldo got the prize without deserving it.

He also won the golden ball in the World Cup and helped lead his team of underdogs to the World Cup final.

Yea he won the golden ball for some reason that no one can really explain. His preformance was okay but compared to the french? Come on...

And yes he did help get Croatia to the finals..but so did Raktic who arguably was more important for the Croatia team... But Mbappe and Griezmann not only got to the finals but won the World Cup, and both out scored and out assisted him... hell even Ronaldo did better on that front.

So again how did he deserve not only the World Cup player thingy but this one over Mbappe or Griezmann?

My point is, based on stats and trophies...even weighted on importance... he should not have won. So this had more to do with Real Madrid 's marketing department than actual logic and facts.
