Meh we’ll find a way to **** it up
Don't sell yourself short. The last day signings have moved Everton from mid - table obscurity to real contenders. Not seen this good an Everton team since the Liverpool glory days of the 1970s and 1980s.

Unconvinced by United, Jose is a dead man walking in my opinion. Time bomb waiting to go off.

I would be suprise if he lasts to Christmas. Only job he can get after is the Portugal job... way too toxic. When players refuse to go to a club because of the manager... it is over.

Slightly predictable first weekend so far. No shocks at all. Even the margins were expected. I thought United and Spurs would win by a single goal, and that Chelsea would easily beat Huddersfield. The only one I didn't quite foresee was Watford being so superior to Brighton.

Today's two big games might throw up something unexpected. I think Liverpool will blow away West Ham, but Arsenal-City will be close. Could go either way. I think Southampton-Burnley will be a draw.

How good am I? Liverpool 4-0 WHU; Arsenal 0-2 City; Soton 0-0 Burnley. Maybe I ought to lay some money down one time.

Good perf from City. Not great, but good enough to feel pretty comfortable when Arsenal came at us. A few mistakes from Ederson and Mendy will give Pep something to work with, but Unai Emery has a LOT more work to do. Özel was very poor. So was Cech on a few occasions. Lacazette, Guendouzi and Torreira looked the business, and that should give Gunners fans cause for optimism. They've got to tighten the defence and get the midfielders to give the forwards something to work with. There was very little service into Lacazette, he had to make his own chances.

The LFC-supporting nephew is still here, trolling me with the league table: "Liverpool top. City are only 5th. That's got to hurt, doesn't it Uncle A?" Pfft! Enjoy it while you can.

That 2nd goal from City was beautiful

Starting to wonder if it was not a massive mistake to change the closing of the transfer window in England. The buy clauses have to either be massive or not exist now... because say a key player has 100 million buyout and a continental team comes and pays it...the English team would be unable to replace the player. Or unsettled players pushing for a move out of the EPL... the team would have to either allow the sale with no replacement or have a disgruntled employee spreading "bad vibes" in the team...

All it takes is 9ne high profile case and ...

So no problem losing Kun or De Bryne at City eh?

We'd survive. Using City as your example is probably a poor choice since we've got such a strong squad we could live without either. It might have a bigger effect on other teams: e.g. Spurs without Kane, Chelsea without Hazard, but that can happen through injury too. Suck it up and get on with it; it's not the end of the world.

Oh noes! No De Bruyne. We're ****ed!

Oh, never mind.

I take it you didn't watch the game then.
Nope but it was Huddersfield... not exactly amazing opposition. And it was one game...one game does not make or break a season.

One could also say... if Huddersfield can score against you, then what will happen against Europe's top teams? [emoji6]

Just tuned in to the Liverpool/Chrystal Palace match; when did PL start using cheerleaders?

Weak sauce, Pete. Hey, Barcelona conceded 5 to Levante and still won the league at a trot. City got beaten by Wigan last season and still broke every PL record.

Liverpool just beat Palace by a couple. Clear victory, but not a romp. It's already shaping up to be a two-horse race I reckon.

I did not see that. Horrible idea! I'm pretty sure we don't use that gimmick in manly Manchester.

What works in Selhurst.................

Decades ago.. well some clubs. You just never see them because of half time commercials and talk.

You totally miss the point. City was expected to easily beat Huddersfield at home. That is what happened... hardly a signal for a winning season.

City are expected to win over all teams at home except maybe Liverpool. They are also expected to win over most away with the exception of Liverpool, United (hated rival always can be problematic) and maybe Tottenham. I even expect City to beat Arsenal and Chelski away... just saying.

Same goes for Liverpool... they were expected to beat Palace... they did.

So West Ham went down 2-1 to the Cherries. Two wins in a row at the Vitality, (I hate that name, it's still Dean Court!) Could this be a run?

I didn't miss the point at all. You were scrabbling around to find a negative about City in a 6-1 hammering of Huddersfield. That was the best you could do. Of course we were expected to beat Huddersfield. I predicted we'd win 4-0. We did better than that. You expect we'll beat Arsenal and Chelsea away? We've already done both of those: 0-2, 0-2. So, we've played 3 games this season, one in the Community Shield, two in the league. P3, W3, GF10, GA1. Is that not a signal for a winning season yet?

Seems it takes an opposing side AND a ref and his assistants to stop City these days. One-nil down at 60 mins when we should be one-nil up. Wolves' goal a clear handball and off-side. Silva clearly fouled in the box, no penalty given. Still don't understand why we haven't got VAR - we'd be leading and cruising. Never mind. Onwards.
