Eric Adams will save NYC from that communist!

I believe in the old adage that politics is the art of the possible.

So you don't disagree with his policies, you just think he won't be able to get any of them done.

If I felt that way I'd still want him to win.

If nothing else, four years with this Communist will teach New Yorkers a valuable lesson.

I’m genuinely fascinated by the obscene level of willful ignorance and delusion on display—almost like it’s a requirement now. Maybe it really is the ultimate failure of the American education system: the more school you attend, the dumber you emerge. Perhaps if the curriculum focused a little less on God, guns, and Jesus, and a little more on science, math, critical thinking, and how the actual world functions, we wouldn’t be drowning in this intellectual wasteland.

There’s a tragic, almost poetic absurdity in hearing people mock New York and California—two of the largest economies on the planet. These are the very states that keep the country running, the ones whose federal taxes bankroll the military, the highways, the infrastructure used by the same people who call them "communist hellholes" and "failed states."

It’s a marvel of cognitive dissonance so profound, I’m amazed these people’s brains don’t spontaneously collapse under the weight of their contradictions. But maybe that's the point. Maybe the system was designed to manufacture this exact type of obedient, unthinking nationalism—a society where ignorance isn’t just tolerated, it’s weaponized.

Or not.

I guess Trump will have to send in the military soon.

I think Democrats in general are turning on their own corrupt party leadership, and looking for populist "pure" narratives as they do so.

Especially in New York, this is going to make them touch the stove. We can warn them it's hot, but, they don't like us and so our warning is worse than useless - it makes them want to touch the stove more.

The GOP decided to do that about a decade or so ago. I wish Democrats better luck of it.

Rent freezes… which happen all the time… free buses… which already had a successful pilot program… a small increase in taxes on the wealthy which isn’t the end of the world… gift baskets for newborns… building more affordable housing…. A city owned grocery pilot program… it isn’t going to destroy the city.

I am beginning to think that the conservative media is afraid that some of it might work.

Hm. I agree that the stupid, partisanly tribal politics we live in today will encourage hysteria and maximalist claims.

However:

1. "The city will not be left a smoldering, lifeless, ruin" is not exactly a desirable bar to hold up for policy to have to clear to be supported.

2. That a thing has been done before does not mean it was beneficial, or will scale well.

The ones crying will be New Yorkers when socialism destroys their city government.
Literally everything is socialism to you people, so how come New York hasn't burnt down yet?

And if it fails, then it wasn't real socialism.
Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called farm price supports.

Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Not sure how a policy set that has a record of success is tantamount to, in your words, 'touching the stove'. We're not talking about things that have invariably, or even mostly ended in disaster, despite there being a possibility of failure.

Indeed, yours would seem to be one of those hysterical and maximalist claims you disparage.

It’s worth finding out.

The grocery store thing is one store in each borough in a food desert.

If it works… great.

If it doesn’t… it was well worth a try.

The radical is not Mayor yet. He might be soon enough.

Just gonna pretend you haven't been calling big city governments "socialist" for the last 20 years? lol.

See the problem? The things he mentions do not help all the people. Unions, farmers, bankers, and retirees are all special interest groups.

If one bowed out the other could probably beat Mamdani.
I have no doubt Cuomo would be a shitty mayor, and Adams wouldn't likely be much better, and Mamdani would probably end up winning the next election. Better for NYC that they have him now and hope voters come to their senses.

Is Cuomo actually running in the general election? I assumed he was just dicking around.
If Cuomo couldn't beat Mamdani in the primary, he should get out of the way and let Eric Adams have a shot. Not that Adams is much better, but at least he hasn't already lost to Mamdani.

That's only if he can make his plans happen. This kid has never even had a real job.
In that case, if New Yorkers are dumb enough to elect this guy, then I’m going to enjoy watching his mayoralty (from afar).

Communism has never worked anywhere. But dont get me wrong, I want the commie to win. The left deserves him.

They're both corrupt crooks and reprehensible human beings; neither should be running frankly.

If you really think he’s a communist then you have no clue what the word means.

Since you claim to be an expert, whats the practical difference between a socialist and a communist
