E-cigarette sales could double this year to $1 billion, analysts say. The market for e-cigarettes has grown from thousands of users in 2006 to several million e-cigarette smokers worldwide.

E-cigarettes are now being sold by all of the nation's major tobacco companies. The final holdout, tobacco company Altria Group Inc., parent company of Philip Morris and maker of Marlboro cigarettes, announced today they would sell e-cigarettes under the MarkTen brand starting in August.

Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a liquid nicotine solution, creating vapor that users inhale. Devotees say e-cigarettes address both the addictive and behavioral aspects of smoking. Smokers get their nicotine without the more than 4,000 chemicals found in regular cigarettes. And they get to hold something shaped like a cigarette, while puffing and exhaling something that looks like smoke.

More than 45 million Americans smoke cigarettes, and about half of smokers try to quit each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The e-cigarette, made in China by a contract manufacturer, is expected to sell for about $9.50. Prices for additional cartridges and recharging kit were not available. The liquid for the cartridges is being produced in the U.S.....snip~

I picked up a Couple of these E-Cigarettes to try and quit smoking. Picked up one of the Blue and I have another one where it decreases the nicotine down with the filters. The Cig is heavier than a regular cigarette and it is the same when held in ones mouth on their lip. When I have used it.....I rarely ever just hold the E-cig in my mouth like I do with other Cigarettes.

Looks like the Tobacco companies are going to make a push with these. Although I don't know why we are getting them from China. I am trying with these first. As I didn't want to get put on any medications to quit. Although the Price here around me has been 10 dollars for the Blue E-Cig. The other with the interchangeable filters costs more. Like 29.95 on Sale.

Cigarettes around Chicago are going for like 6,7,8 bucks a pack. Maybe even more in the heart of the city. How much are Cigarettes By where you live. What do people think about these E-Cigs?

I smoke cigars and pipes. But my brother who just got of the military just loves them and has become somewhat of an expert and aficionado. I have tried his. They are different and I could get used them. The main drawback for me is I like tobacco in the form of cigars and pipes and am not a fan of flavored tobacco. I think of them sort of as mini hookahs, as the flavor profile seems similar.

Heya PM. :2wave: Yeah I tried the Cigars.....didn't care for them to much. Then went to the Cigarillos. Like Tijuana Smalls. Which I would just take off that Plastic filter. I also tried the Pipe. Which ended up going for the Ole Longbottom Leaf from South Farthing.

Course the Docs are on me to give up the Cigs. So this time they are pushing. I quit when I was in the Military for quite a few years. Then when I came home and met my ex. I ended up starting back up. Been smoking ever since. Even worse is I went to Non Filters.....when I stopped smoking Menthol Cigs. Back then the Doc was like get off the Menthol. Easier to quit a non menthol Cigarette than a Menthol one. So he said.

When they were runnin our asses off and singing those damn songs.....I ended up quiting. ;)

Someday, the e-joint.

Heya EF.

Don't they already have like Inhalers? Not that I seen them used around Chicago much. :2razz:

There are vaporizers, but I haven't seen a highly-portable one that works with THC oil.

Where do they get oil with THC?

Couldn't tell you that off hand, not my scene really. My brother seems to know, I will ask him whenever he gets up.

Sure... the old "my brother knows". *wink* Get back to me when he "wakes up".

:D

Here....our Tobacco Companies are looking to make a Mint off these E-Cigs. But now Look what the UK is doing.

Government ruling could see e-cigarettes off shelves.....

E-cigarettes are thought to be safer than normal cigarettes because they dispense nicotine without using tobacco.

Electronic cigarettes could be taken off British shelves depending on a government decision on the future regulation of the product.

There is currently no age limit on the devices or limits on their advertising or availability.

It appears the Brits may remove them from the Shelves.

In this case its actually true, he's the one in the family that happens to be the guru on all things E-cigs or vaporizers or whatever it is they call the things. :lamo Now if you want to know about cigars especially maduro and larger ring gauge cigars I am your man. I am especially fond of the Genuine Counterfeit Pre Embargo Cuban cigar, my favorite though all of the Genuine Counterfeit Cuban cigar varieties are very good. La Gloria Cubana churchhills or presidents are very nice as well. JR Cigar is were I get most of mine, though one of these days I am going down to Miami to get my own custom blend made up for me.

I have been using e-cigs for about 3 years. I now have about 9 different devices, and 50 or so flavors of liquid on hand at any time. Personally, I don't like the little ones that look like a cigarette (blu) they don't have the same voltage, or battery life of the bigger mods. After about 2 days with a big battery mod, I quit cigarettes totally.

I don't think it would really matter to current users. I can build a mod out of parts found at radio shack, and make my own liquid.

Do these things stink like regular cigarettes do? Do they pose a health risk for anyone in the vicinity? If not, then yea, go for it. If so, then smoke them just like anything else: outdoors and down wind.

Heya DH.

Actually my OL says she don't smell anything. Although I don't use a flavored Cig. So I am not sure on if others do stink. I am hoping they will help me to quit in a month. Since I want to quit.

It will be great. No more nasty stinkin ashtrays. Or cigs that fall out of an Ashtray. No more burn marks in clothes on car seats. No Ashes all over the car. Plus I have stopped smoking in the House and the car. So I do go out now to have a real cigarette. Less of it coming out thru the pores of ones skin and in their hair too.

Also I use my Cat. Since when she is on me kneading or sitting by me. I wont smoke then.....kinda like I did with my kids.

The liquid I am currently using smells like mocha cappuccino.
There was a study on indoor air quality and E-cigs.
An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie

I have no idea why it says that in the link, but it still goes to the study.

You obviously used an oatmeal raisin, when the internet gremlins wanted a chocolate chip.

Conclusions: For all byproducts measured, electronic cigarettes produce very small exposures relative to tobacco cigarettes. The study indicates no apparent risk to human health from e-cigarette emissions based on the compounds analyzed.

Cigarettes that smell like mocha cappuccino and pose no health risks to bystanders is a good thing in my book.

I'd even go into a restaurant that allowed such smokes to be used.

I quit smoking 2 1/2 yrs ago cold turkey.
Had an E cig been avail at a reasonable price
I probably would have tried it.

Even now when I'm out with the dog my fingers twitch
since I smoked outside.:2razz:

I just like that I can go up a flight of stairs without gasping, and don't smell like an ashtray anymore.

My friend arrived today with a disposable version and we had a talk about it. I went to the store and got a non-disposable (eGo-T).

Vive la revolution!

I worked in the e-cigarette world for a while, so I like to think my opinion on this is very informed.

And I'll start you out with this: I exited by whistle-blowing and selling all of my materials, which I spent quite a bit of money on.

E-cigarettes are unregulated. The parts are manufactured in the slummiest part of the Chinese factory district. The juice is made by people who mostly don't know anything about biochemical safety (don't be fooled by "American-made juice" -- this is often the worst of all, made by complete amateurs in Mickey Mouse operations in their basements).

As they stand, I think they're profoundly dangerous and the industry should be ashamed of itself for making people think it's all safe and above-board when nothing could be further from the truth.

And it's an absolute shame, because based on my experience, e-cigarettes work better than any other quit-smoking aid in existence. Unfortunately, it could be trading one health risk for another.

E-cigarettes, as of now, are not part of Big Tobacco. They're their own thing, and it's a pity they aren't defining themselves by safety standards. They're just trying to distract everyone from the total lack of standards with weird-looking mods and new flavors of juice containing dangerous additives.

I can go into more detail if anyone wants, but it's a long and technical rant.

Heya SAM :2wave: .....thanks for the info. Feel free to expound on what you like. Especially if you think there are safety concerns people should know of. As always, your thoughts are appreciated.

E-Cigarettes honestly kind of scared me when I used them. I'm only a social smoker usually (in uniform, while drinking, etca), so I don't have a particularly high tolerance for regular cigarettes. They taste like ****, and If I do more than two or three in a single go, I start feeling nauseous.

With an E-cigarette, on the other hand, I can easily find myself puffing for an hour or more with no problems. It's pretty much nicotine overload.
