DOJ: Alabama prisoners exposed to horrifying violence, rape; murders a 'regular' occurrence

WASHINGTON – Prison inmates in Alabama are routinely subjected to horrifying violence and sexual abuse within "a broken system" where people are murdered "on a regular basis," according to a Justice Department review.
Federal investigators who spent more than two years scrutinizing the prisons in a state that incarcerates more people per capita than almost any other found illegal drugs and weapons were rampant, cellblocks were overcrowded and dilapidated and the few poorly trained officers on duty appeared powerless to establish any semblance of control.
Violence, murder, rape in Alabama prisons unconstitutional, DOJ says

Reading this it is very concerning. Doesn't matter why they are in prison. The violence and abuse is inexcusable.

Its called Karma. The inmates are in jail for doing the same thing

The people there have had their freedom taken away and are already subjected to what is an awful experience (as its supposed to be), but that is not reason for authorities to look the other way when they see prisoners victimized.

They are in jail to have their freedom taken away for a period of time, not be beaten, raped, or abused by anyone. It's easy to say some of them deserve it, but many of them are simply people that ****ed-up, and are paying the price of time for it, and they still deserve to be treated as human beings.

Then it seems that those being criminals are even more stupid than previously thought... ****ing morons.

I suspect more often than not the person coming out of that situation and years of being surrounded by the climate and psychology of that abuse as the society they were in are a worse person than they first went in.

GOSH! The poor rapists, murderers and gang bangers who sell drugs to children and abuse women... they deserve better!!!

Prison violence rehabilitates ... I read that somewhere.

Noting that I strongly support the death penalty, that it should be carried out quickly and in most cases warranting life without parole I would prefer the death penalty be imposed, in my opinion anyone imprisoned should be confined safely and humanely regardless of their crime.

Maybe the problem is life outside of the prison.

Wouldn't prison need to be ****tier than the world that surrounds it.

You don't even see the irony of your own statement... that they are in prison precisely because they went through due process and imprisonment is the punishment.

Do you realize that, as wards of the state, prisoners are owed protection from undue harm, or cruel and unusual treatment?

Do you also see that many of these prisoners will also one day be released, and how they treat society is going to be a reflection of the treatment they got in prison? That the difference between torturing them in substandard care will cause a vastly different result than rehabilitating them?

Do you have any sense of decency and responsibility toward society, sir?

Everyone in prison, regardless of crime, deserves to be raped and murdered? You two are unbelievably scummy.

I truly hope both of you are raped and murdered as you've certainly committed many crimes throughout your lives.

Do you have any idea how many people with life sentences or death sentences eventually have it overturned for various reasons? What you're advocating for would get a lot of innocent people killed as they have no chance to appeal their wrongful conviction. What is the rush?

The US prison system is satanic, and anyone who fully supports it is in the grips of deep evil. Rape isn't a good punishment for any crime, and people should only be killed if they are sentenced to be killed. To support wanton murder in prisons as part of a 'tough on crime' swagger persona is just retarded; it undermines the entire purpose behind sentencing and even having a death penalty in the first place.

One can never know if you’re trolling or not so I’ll make my point, not for your benefit but for others as it’s exactly this sentiment that enables these kinds of state abuses.

So, first of all not everyone in jail is as you describe, people end up in jail for a vast variety of reasons and here’s the basic point, loss of freedom is the point, is the punishment.

The state doesn’t sentence people to rape or death for petty theft, yet that could happen to someone in jail.

On top of that, we know for a fact that the system gets it wrong and that innocent people end up in jail, could happen to any one of us, if you were unlucky enough to find yourself in that situation, do you think it is right that not only does the state take away your freedom, but subsequently puts you in an environment of extreme danger in addition to the already steep penalty of the loss of your freedom...

Not to mention that in all of this, it can be considered cruel and unusual punishment which is expressly forbidden by the constitution.

Do you have evidence of Satanism is prisons?

You hope that I am raped and murdered? I have not read the DP Rules in a while but that has to be a rule violation.

...and no, I never said that I hope that, "Everyone in prison, regardless of crime, deserves to be raped and murdered"... I never said anything even remotely close, actually.

He is gonna have a hard time whenever he opens up old posts...

NecroGuy says, "I love random murders".

Come on. I'm not taking that seriously.
