Dogs or Cats?

Which would you rather have as a pet, a dog or a cat?

Nothing against cats but I would personally never own one as a pet.
Cats just seem so disinterested in human contact while dogs thrive on it.
I have had Goldens most of my life and can't imagine life without one.

Dogs love you

Cats love themselves

Dogs will do things for you

Cats do things for themselves

I like cats. I love dogs

me too. I always got really lucky with strays, i usually just do one at a time now that im older.. and VETS are EXPENSIVE
As is cat litter and cat food.

You can NOT pick both. That would take away all the fun and the anticipated heated debates about...................

Great topic. Thank you

Both. Cats, for mousing and light psychopathy. Dog is my friend and trail buddy.

Yes they can, you're right. I've trained a couple of my cats to come on command, by voice and hand signals, my current cat does that reliably. I've also trained one of my cats to fetch on command. Anyone who doesn't think a cat can be trained is a fool.
They are certainly more difficult to train; however, they can be trained, even professionally. There are 10 businesses in my county that do so.

Hey Snowflake,

My dog took care of my cat since the day she was born. He literally saw her being born. She thought he was her mom. She slept in his food bowl. He would carry her around and protect her. They were a great couple.

So sorry for being an asshole but I voted other anyways because I like them both. I have no preference for one over the other other than the supporting logistics. It is easy to keep a cat in an apartment, but with a dog you need a garden I think. Even finances may play a part.

We also had a fishpond with goldfish and a few other critters, including a few freshwater crabs.

We also had different birds nesting in our garden, and they kept coming back and knew that the dog and the cat would protect them and not eat them.

And we also had 4 different kind of lizards in the garden and laying eggs.

Cats from the neighbours were not welcome and always chased away. And so were the occasional snakes if I did not catch them my selves.

I love animals. They don't ask stupid questions and almost everything they do, they do for a reason that is not boredom.

Sorry, we have and love both.

We can't have either because my son has allergies to both.

I love both, at least when it comes to large dogs, but have different reasons why I would get either. I want a cat just because cats are awesome. But we have a lot more use for a dog, especially if that same son was not allergic, we would have gotten him a service dog already.

I had several cats when we were younger and 2 dogs.

I was also surrounded by many horses, cows, pigs and chicken etc. - because I grew up in rural Austria, so there are many farms nearby.
