Does The Bible Support Slavery?

2) Having to do Things whether you Like it or Not

Any psychologist would tell you that a major factor in being happy as a human being is doing something you love.

For example, people who do a job they love are happier and have a much lower chance of being depressed than those who do a job they do not like.

A recent study by economists at the University of Warwick said that people who work in a job they like are 12% more productive than those who do a job they do not like.

For most Jehovah’s Witnesses, even if they might never admit it, most of them hate to preach. And frankly, that’s why their organization requires that each member reports the number of hours they engaged in the “preaching work” or “ministry” for that month. This is not only to know how many hours were spent in such ministry but who did those hours by putting their name on that little report slip.

Because of this, the individual knows that he has to preach if he doesn’t want to be labeled as inactive.
Preaching affects some Jehovah’s Witnesses psychologically and physiologically.

If you add to that the other things they do not like to do such as, going to meetings every week, studying the Watchtower publications every week, doing “talks” at the Kingdom Hall on a regular basis, commenting/participating during the meeting as often as possible, etc. that’s a lot of obligations that the average Jehovah’s Witness has to fill all year long.

All of this can generate a constant unhappy feeling, anguish, and melancholy that one has to live with, and it could go as far as chronic depression.

3) Everything is Forbidden

It would be easier to list the things that are allowed than the things that are not allowed in Jehovah’s Witnesses world.

Virtually all that is trivial for people in general, is forbidden to Jehovah’s Witnesses
Here are just a few:

· They are not allowed to celebrate any holiday

· They are not allowed to date without the intention to marry

· Men are not allowed to wear a beard if they want to have any type of privilege in the religion

· Women are not supposed to wear dresses or skirts above the knee

· It is strongly frowned upon to work towards a career or to indulge in a hobby

· They are not allowed to attend religious events other than their own

· They are not supposed to be friends with people who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses
They are not supposed to marry someone who is not a Jehovah’s Witness

· They can’t celebrate birthdays

· They can’t have a blood transfusion

· They are not allowed to have sex unless they are married

· They can’t do everything they want sexually even with their spouse

· They can’t masturbate

· They are not supposed to watch movies that are rated R

The life of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is guided by those forbidden things and more. If a Jehovah’s Witness were to break any of the rules they could be spoken to by an elder (the equivalent of a pastor) of the congregation for the least important ones and could be “disfellowshipped” (excommunicated) if they broke one of the most important ones.

4) Sexual Frustration

Since Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t have the right to experience their sexuality normally like everyone else, their sexual frustration is widespread in the religion.

Because of this, we observe two real facts among Jehovah’s Witnesses.

1) Addiction to pornography beyond the normal percentage.

2) Very early marriages and often times loveless, because it is the only way to have sex.

These two facts lead to an avalanche of problems in the form of uneasiness, discomfort, depression, and other physiological and psychological problems.

At times ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses have admitted that they had some issues with addiction to pornography due to their sexual frustration as young men in this cult.

5) Never doing Enough for the Organization

When it comes to this area the problem is that the individual has been made to believe that the organization equal Jehovah. So when Jehovah’s Witnesses spend their time, energy, and resources for the Watchtower organization they are convinced that they are doing this for Jehovah God.

Because the organization leadership knows that this is the case, they relentlessly ask more of the rank and file in the name of Jehovah, and they are doing it so well that the individual pretty much constantly feels that he doesn’t do enough for Jehovah.

If you are a Jehovah’s Witness, I am sure you have felt this way plenty of times and you may be feeling this right now still.

The brainwashing of the need to do more all the time is spread through meetings, publications, public talks (speeches), assemblies and videos.

continued...

Openly the leaders of the organization are saying “everyone does what he or she can” but in truth this same organization constantly influences people to do more and to give more of themselves every time they can.

The result is that the individual has a feeling of never doing enough that makes him depressed with a feeling that he will never be up to the task.

6) Having to Stay Away from the Rest of the World

Whether you are an adult at work or a child in school, it’s impossible for a Jehovah’s Witness to be fully part of the society they live in.

They can’t participate in celebrations, whether it’s a simple birthday or a holiday. But it goes above and beyond than that, for example, it is also not advisable to become friend with a school mate or a work college.

Even family members who are not going to join the cult will eventually, little by little, be put aside until the relationship is pretty much none existent anymore.

In the case of a child in school, this separation between him and the rest of his peers not only will make him feel weird, out of place, ostracized, sad, and depressed but also an excellent candidate to bullying.

7) Prohibition of a Career

I find it interesting that tennis player Serena Williams likes to thank Jehovah after winning a tennis match. For those who don’t know any better, they might be under the impression that she is a Jehovah’s Witness.

Well, let me assure you that if Serena Williams was a baptized Jehovah’s Witness in good standing she would never have had the career that she had.

And to make sure that Jehovah’s Witnesses understood the Watchtower thoughts on the matter in their 2016 convention the organization leaders made it very clear in one of their videos that a Jehovah’s Witness is not to have a career.

In this video, we felt the pain of that little boy who wanted to become a violinist and was even encouraged by his teachers to enter the conservatory of music. The father of the little boy, though, made it clear that he wasn’t to go to the conservatory as it is so difficult to serve Jehovah and have a “worldly” career at the same time.

Watching this video was indoctrination Watchtower mode at full speed.

The truth behind all that is that the Watchtower wants to have as much control over their members as possible and it’s much easier to control people that don’t go to college and don’t have a career, but rather spend the biggest part of their lives in the Watchtower business.

8) Exposure to Unhealthy Subliminal (Supraliminal) Images

In fact, to be completely correct, the term ‘subliminal’ is often confused with the term ‘supraliminal’. Because of this, some critics say that the organization of Jehovah’ Witnesses cannot use subliminal images because the subliminal cannot be detected or even created by the conscious.

Theoretically, it’s true, but to those who are saying this, I would say that it’s just an erroneous use of words (technical terminology), but the principle is the same. Which means that since most of these supraliminal images are not consciously detected they do the job they are expected to do.

The correct term of the images that the Watchtower uses is supraliminal images. Meaning, images which, although possibly detectable by the conscious, are most often completely undetected.

Experiments on subliminal or (supraliminal) messages have been made since the 1950s, and the results of these experiments are clear. This type of images and messages are not magical, but they can definitely influence the person who is exposed to them, long term.
Now knowing that the Watchtower uses demonic and pornographic subliminal (or supraliminal) images, it is not surprising that many Jehovah’s Witnesses have problems with depression, pornography addiction, demon fascination, demon phobia, pedophilia, and other issues linked to their longtime exposure to unhealthy supraliminal messages.

9) Having to Stay in a Bad Marriage

Because many Jehovah’s Witnesses are getting married at a very young age and a little on the sly for the main reason of having sex, many of these marriages become bad marriages.

Unfortunately, when a Jehovah’s Witness realizes that he or she is in such marriage they know they cannot divorce.

Even in the case of spousal abuse, a Jehovah’s Witness cannot divorce. They will be able to leave if they feel that it’s becoming dangerous to stay, but they won’t be able to divorce legally and ever get married again.

But it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t add to this that in many cases, when a woman comes to the elders complaining about an abusive husband they make HER feel guilty pointing out that maybe she has not been submissive enough.

10) Cognitive Dissonance

Cognitive dissonance is a conflict that happens in your brain when facts and beliefs don’t match. While we all suffer at one point or another from cognitive dissonance, cult members are subject to this inner mental conflict on a daily basis year in and year out.

Whether they are aware of it or not Jehovah’s Witnesses suffer from cognitive dissonance because their religion is full of contradictions and other hypocritical doctrines.

For example, my big cognitive dissonance as a Jehovah’s Witness was that of the blood transfusion.

On the one hand, you were told that “Jehovah God” forbade blood transfusions and on the other, around the year 2000, the leaders of the Watchtower decided to print on their magazines that certain fractions of blood were allowed.
his doctrine went from something forbidden to a matter of personal conscience, thus yet another subject of cognitive dissonance of this cult.
Is cognitive dissonance harmless?
Studies have shown that long term exposure to cognitive dissonance can have negative effects. In the British Journal of Psychiatry 181: 102–10 we can read about some findings showing that extended exposure to cognitive dissonance can induce an emotional reaction that may grow more uncontrollably over time. If the brain is no longer able to mediate through a rationalization process the person can develop mood-regulation disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
They are plenty more reasons why Jehovah’s Witnesses are unhappy, but thankfully because of the extreme activism that’s going on right now through the internet and other methods, fewer people join this so-called religion while more and more members leave. Many of them, though, are still victims to one of the most ruthless rules of the cult which is shunning

How sad. Sure sounds like a cult. Cults take hostages.

It's a form of biblical scripture inspired/induced, quasi-voluntary "slavery", IMO. Indeed, Jehovah Witnesses refer to themselves as "slaves of Jehovah."

Sad. Muslims are slaves to Allah, but it's nothing like this. Divorce is permitted. Education is a right. Women can own ..buy and sell property.. very different.

Well, seeing as @Elora, as noted above in post# 356 self-declares to "be a slave of Jehovah", The answer to the thread title "Does the Bible Support Slavery?" is pretty clear; at least for those who belong to the Jehovah Witnesses Organization. Why else would one self-declare to be a "slave of Jehovah"?

I love your sig, Elora.

That's literally just another way of saying that the bible says whatever you want it to say.

Which is great. It's something for everyone.
More than anything, it supports the fact that we never stop learning when reading/studying God's Word...

Cool. You should study Buddhism way more. Far superior religion. At least two tiers of sophistication above your current hobby. Check it out, dude.
Nah, their beliefs are too crazy for me...

Yet, you'd be hard pressed to find any other group on earth who adheres any closer to Jesus' teachings and at the same time rejects any/all the pagan beliefs infiltrated into Christendom, than we do...
Wrong! JWs follow a "works theology" where their individual entire intent is not to spread the gospel to others for the sake of others--- or for God's kingdom, it is to hopefully "win the lottery" and be included in the so called 144,000. And this is why you see them standing on bus stop corners holding up their Watchtower information for anyone passing by to see, as a means to technically be out doing missionary work. Over the last decades the JWs have pretty much given up on knocking on doors, as the doors are slammed in their faces. They are as unwelcome as Scientologists----not that I've ever had a Scientologist ring my doorbell. And at least the young Mormon boys on bikes are clean cut and polite. I'm always nice to them, and offer them a non caffeinated beverage. Their hearts are in a right place, even as they too like the JWs are part of cult.

JWs get a lot of new converts from people who are raised as Catholics, which is mainly due to the fact that Catholics tend to not grow up spending any time actually studying the bible as much as say protestant people do (sola scriptura), which makes unfortunately Catholics easy prey when a JW comes around claiming things from the bible, something that many Catholics are unprepared to know when they are being conned.

I'm not ashamed to call out JWs for their heresy. Mormons too. Sorry, but this is just the way it is. Catholic, Protestant, or Eastern Orthodox--- doesn't matter to me, they have many differences among themselves, but unlike JWs and Mormons at least they are actually talking about the same "Jesus"---even as those may have some conflicting perspectives among themselves. JWs don't even believe Jesus to be 'God/Man'. They believe him to a created being, not unlike an angel or demon. Sorry, but that is not a Christian belief.

Desert people as in Bedouin had very few slaves. They couldn't feed them and they had no large agricultural projects.
And once again I need repeat that my argument is based on how and why civilisation began. Not on how some nomadic tribes lived.

Yes, we LIVE our faith...

Now look who is shifting the goalposts. You specifically said it is required for civilization to exist. I said nothing about huge armies. That is another strawman. I get it, you dont want to admit you are wrong.

I specifically said conquering people no matter what scale requires already existing resources that one could not afford if they were desperate and starving like you claim would happen if societies didnt enslave people. You continue to be rather hellbent on reinforcing your own bias.
How amusing then. You mean then that even a small group of tribes people are capable of having slaves then . No need for a huge army.

Why would tribes be desperate and starving?

And no, large groups of tribes gathering together to live in a city state condition would have the resources through slavery to do so.

Otherwise how do you think the first of civilisations could exist. Certainly not by paid service.

Nonsense. You believe a God who forced Noah’s children into incest. You are a good candidate for True Enlightenment through Buddha.
On the same note, its also the same God who committed planetary genocide, turned a woman into a kitchen condiment, screwed up some guy's life over a bet, ect.. Talk about crazy Indeed.

Cooperation and community building. Im just going to let those not so wedded to your idea make up their minds.

Your ability to understand why an appeal to authority is considered a fallacy
You consider yourself knowledgeable in a field you clearly are not because you have this weird hill you are willing to die on for absolutely no reason at all. We’re done here.

Your argument has plenty of holes in it but you do you…

Then your opinion doesn't really count now, does it?
That doesn't follow. Elora, you and logic are barely acquainted. But you and baby trolling? Good friends.

If salvery was so easy then why the need for overseers to whip slaves into work.
Please don't get offended:

That was a very dumb question. Like, painful.

I didn't day slavery was easy. I said it was the easiest way available.

I'm still curious about the easier ways you insist existed. And then an explanation of why they did things the hard way instead of the easy way. Per your declarations.

Yes, we LIVE our faith...
Evidently not a "real truth" claim, base upon your declarative words below when compared with the words from bible verse John12:25.👇

King James Bible - John12:25
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.👇
