Obama just moved the Navy off the coast of Libya. I think he needs a Declaration of War, or he and the left are hypocrites.

He can deploy military troops to a region up to 90 days without congressional approval.

Just send us Marines back to Tripoli.

Yes because enforcing a no fly zone to protect civillians is the same as invading a country for something that was never found, and never threatened you at all!

I won't hold my breath for your answer...

I haven't lost sight of the possibility that this civil war has been instigated by our own government.

Not really Maggie, it was the other protests that spread from the other countries, the reason there might be a civil war, is because unlike Egypt that is vastly Sunni Muslims.

Libya is incredibly tribal, and so there are loyalties that run back a long time, which is why unlike Egypt, not everyone is going to agree...

As long as the US does not directly engage in another war - and our forces are only there to avoid a genocide, I'm fine with it. Enforce the no-fly zone. Even send in aid and food (no weapons). Do NOT engage in a ground assault or clandestine activities of any kind. Sit back and let the Libyan people sort this out for themselves... we're just the referee.

Pretty much what I'm advocating.

He could also say that the U.S. is there to "fight terrorism", then no declaration would be needed because terrorists have no nation. That's what Bush did.

If by instigated by us you mean the people are tired of being ruled by a dictator, then yeah, you're probabaly right.

Really, I seem to recall Congressional approval of both Afghanistan and Iraq.

I love revisionists....

Well, yes - there's that ---- not to mention there's nothing in the current Libyan scenario that identifies a hint of terrorism, unless there's a new definition of "terrorism" as "any muslim country where they have a disagreement".

Really, I seem to not recall a Declaration of War which should be necessary when engaging in actual war against another state.

I love constitutional forgetters. Actually I don't. Obey the Constitution!

Didn't stop us in Iraq. We had nothing to do with that place, but whatever. Won't stop Obama from expanding the wars either. It's good to have a king...wait a minute!

To what end, though? If the President doesn't take advantage of the situation to call for a declaration of war, I can't see how his administration would stand to gain by it.

You don't need a declaration of war for military action to be approved by congress. Both Iraq and Afghanistan were approved by congress.
