Definitely, it desensitizes kids to violence.
For those constantly exposed to violence, it becomes the norm.
Lately the media, especially the liberal media has been scapegoating video games as a possible factor in the Connecticut shooting. Do you believe that violence in video games and movies are an issue and they can cause things like the tragedy we have seen recently. If you do believe they are an issue what do you think should be done? I personally believe that video games/movies cannot cause violence and blaming them is just a stupid reaction to a horrible tragedy. Video games and movies should not be censored or have enforced ratings like minors can't buy M rated video games. Please explain your opinion.
I constantly play very violent games and watch very violent movies and I'm fine and most people are. It's those who are mentally unstable that it affects. What do you believe should be done about it?

Some people think that because a TINY TINY fraction of humanity abuses X, or reacts badly to X, that X must be banned.
I am not one of those people.
A few years ago, I would have said no. For the past couple of years, I'm seriously starting to wonder if violence in video games is having a detrimental effect on some kids, because they get so wrapped up in them, that it may become an alternate reality, of sorts, especially when they spend so much time alone, and interacting with a computer.

i think mental illness and the supply of affordable treatment is the issue.

I'd agree that it is not healthy to let any child spent 8 hours a day 7 days a week playing Xbox... but I've known video game geeks who did exactly that, and pretty much none of them were a menace to society, so I think the key is that mass murderers are mentally abnormal to start with...
I agree with the bolded, which is why I said *some* kids, because I don't believe that all kids will be screwed up by playing video games. To me, the problem is that kids like the one who killed the school children, are already isolated, and aren't interacting with other people to help keep one foot in reality.
I would not agree its had no effect on you and others, I believe it makes you more accepting of violence in our society.

Agreed, but I'm not sure what we do about that, which will:
1. Actually have a positive effect, and
2. Not impose an undue burden on the innocent, (ie 99.9% of us).
Violent video games already come with warning labels for parents, and most game stores will not sell them to minors without a parent present to affirm it is okay.
