did former President Jimmy Carter cross the line when he called Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst 'racism'? Share your thoughts,

Was he right? Who knows for sure, but I doubt it. Is he allowed to express his opinion? Sure. People are free in this country to be idiots, whether conservative or liberal.

I don't think he crossed the line, but I don't think his comments are useful or helpful at this time.

edit: btw, did he call Wilson's outburst racism? I thought he characterized a 'portion' of the oppostion to Obama as involving racism.

He has a right to an opinion (however idiotic and uninformed it may be), but there is a long standing tradition of former Presidents not entering the partisan fray. Carter has broke that tradition several times and in doing so he's really no better than Joe Wilson who broke with tradition and decorum by heckling the President during a joint session of Congress.

I just think that he is a worth less old man

Meh he followed his personal mandate to the letter to seek the limelight.

President Jimmy Carter should have said nothing, your President is trying to help people in health, what more can u ask for if u are not working and cant pay the bills, lets help one another, thats not to much to ask is it.Would that not be good for every one in your great country of the

United States of America.

I hope so.

bless u all.

He has a death panel scheduled and got a little rattled.

bleagh.

ok, Obama spoke. Wilson reacted. Carter reacted to that. you react to Carter. I react to you.

once you get so far past the initial thing, there's no longer any line to cross.

we should just be grateful that clowns like Wilson are no longer in a position to start pointless wars. now they're just on the sidelines, yelling. (for the time being).

I think people who are tolerant of others and trying to get along are at some point going to stop caring because they get called racists no matter how they behave.

carter is just a crazed old man and he is the raceist one

I don't think he was right, and I don't think it was a smart thing to do, but I don't think it was out of line.

Not no, but hell no!
Wilson, and others are exposing the conservatives for what they are.

A "conservative" response, adding to what should be more embarrassment:3oops:
President Carter is at the age where he can speak his mind.
The children should be listening.:spin:

I don't know if he really crossed any line. But I think it to be a rather dumb statement built on supposition and nothing else.

Do you really think that Wilson was being tolerant, or "trying to get along" ?
Strange, but conditions are far better than they were 50 years ago, to the chagrin of the conservatives..

I see no "race baiting" in Carters remarks; he is simply speaking the truth.

Carter is a gigantic douche bag.

He's just like every other Georgia Democrat and uses race when he has no other argument, it's a common practice around here.

"You lie" has no racial pejoratives or discriminatory words inside of it.
Your going to have to stretch a big one of it to prove that it was based on racial superiority of whites over blacks.

Jimmy Carter hates Jews and is a nazi sympathizer. Unlike his assertion regarding Wilson's comments there is actually evidence backing up those two assertions.
