While the republicans have spent decades saying that democrats are soft on crime, 8 of the 10 states with the highest crime rates voted for trump in 2020.

One, Georgia, didn't vote for trump but Georgia is a red state. Republicans control the state and have controlled it for a long time.

California, New York and Illinois, states the right loves to point to when complaining about crime, have LOWER crime rates than those 10 states.

mitch mcconnell was complaining about how democrats are soft on crime yet Kentucky is rated number 3 in highest states with crime.

The truth is that a person is more safe from crime in a state that voted for Joe Biden than those 8 states with the highest crime rates who voted for trump.

The murder rate is in San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi's district, is 50% lower than it is in Bakersfield, which is in kevin mccarthy's district.

The murder rate per capita was 40% higher in states won by trump than states Biden won.

Just as with most things with the republican party, this is claim about democrats and crime is not true.

From the article:

“We found that murder rates are, on average, 40% higher in the 25 states Donald Trump won in the last presidential election compared to those that voted for Joe Biden. In addition, murder rates in many of these red states dwarf those in blue states like New York, California, and Massachusetts.”

“Mississippi had the highest homicide rate at 20.50 murders per 100,000 residents,” Third Way reports, “followed by Louisiana at 15.79, Kentucky at 14.32, Alabama at 14.2, and Missouri at 14. The national average was 6.5 per 100,000 residents, but the top five states had rates more than twice that high.”

Who would have thought poor, racially diverse states would have more crime? Anyone with an iq above room temperature.

throwing the race card in a bait thread already? Ohio is called a "red state" since it voted for Trump and has a sort of GOP Governor (the senators are split). the highest crime areas are all the big cities that are run by democrats. The police departments answer to Democrat mayors and city councils

Wouldn’t the existence of California kinda destroy the “racially diverse” part of your post?

Why did you choose that metric anyway?

The first article was basically quoting the thirdway. Being a skeptic at heart, I like vetting sources. This source apparently is pretty much 50/50 when it comes to liberal vs constitutive poltiics, and is considered 'mostly factual'. I would say that this is one article that would be acceptable as due to it's data, but I am not sure the analysis of WHY is 100% correct.

When it comes to progressive Democratic politicians they have a negative viewpoint such as this: How the Sanders Social Security Plan is Not Progressive. However, when reporting on Trump they have a much stronger negative viewpoint Untruthful Hyperbole: Trump vs. Facts on Jobs and the Economy. In general, Third Way endorses and supports a policy that is more favorable to the establishment, corporate-friendly Democrats, but is nevertheless opposed to social conservatives.

A factual search reveals they have not directly failed a fact check.

Overall, we rate Third Way Least Biased based on a mix of right and left-leaning positions, with a stronger right-leaning bias concerning economics. We also rate them Mostly Factual in reporting, rather than High due to a lack of transparency with funding, as well as the use of poor sources. (D. Van Zandt 7/10/2016) Updated (2/20/2020)

Bet you dollars to donuts that most of those murderers in those states did not vote for Trump.

Funny how according to the RW crime in red states is because of the 'racially diverse' population... Code words for minorities... But in Blue states and cities crime is all the Democrats fault...

Like yeah nyc isn't (ahem) 'diverse' at all... Lol

I will say this for the Republican propaganda machine... They can take any of their talking points, and turn it political and make it look like it's all the Democrats fault...

you are correct-the groups who spend the most effort trying to gain convicts the right to vote back, are leftwing operatives =as one noted operative-Stanford Law Professor Pam Karlan noted-felons generally support Democrats when and where they can vote

The full report can be read at the following link:

Which party is running the cities where most of these murders are happening?

Oh let's see. Here are the cities with the top 10 murder rates:

St. Louis 66.07
Baltimore 55.77
Detroit 39.8
New Orleans 39.5
Baton Rouge 38.26
Kansas City 30.93
Cleveland 27.77
Memphis 27.73
Newark 27.14
Chicago 24.13

All of them have Democrats as mayors.

Oh, and how do you know that (out of the ones that did not have a felony conviction in before 2016)

we don't but we do know that re-enfranchisement advocates are invariably democratic party operatives plus we have a good sense how various demographics vote

There are a number of people who disagree with that. The ones that do make that claim play the race card.

Weird that the blue urban areas in states that voted for Biden don't have high crime rates.

Bakersfield, which is an urban area in California has 50% higher crime than San Francisco.

Bakersfield is in Kevin mccarthy's district. Bakersfield is a conservative area and has a republican mayor.

And why aren't the republicans in those red states doing anything about the crime in the urban areas? The officials of the cities don't pass state laws. That is done by the state congress which is controlled by republicans in those states that voted for trump. Why aren't those governors and the state congress doing anything about the problem?

Your excuse is not true. In fact, the report destroys your excuse.

who disagrees with that-posters on this board who don't like the fact that experts like Karlan admit that felons will mainly support democrats when the felons can vote?

As I said... The Republicans will turn any talking point political, even if the talking point is happening in a red state, and blame the Democrats...

well,
Nicole Lewis, Staff Writer at The Marshall Project, Aviva Shen, Senior Editor at Slate Magazine, and Anna Flagg, Senior Data Reporter at The Marshall Project, in a Mar. 11, 2020 article, “What Do We Really Know about the Politics of People behind Bars?,” available at themarshallproject.com, stated:
“The Marshall Project partnered with Slate to conduct the first-of-its-kind political survey inside prisons and jails across the country…
We heard from more than 8,000 people. Here’s what we found:
A plurality of white respondents back President Donald Trump, undercutting claims that people in prison would overwhelmingly vote for Democrats…
Perspectives change inside prison. Republicans behind bars back policies like legalizing marijuana that are less popular with GOP voters on the outside; Democrats inside prison are less enthusiastic about an assault weapons ban than Democrats at large…
Just like the country, respondents were divided. Forty-five percent of white respondents said they’d support Trump for president, with white men showing the strongest support. That undermines conventional wisdom: Conservative media and politicians often regard incarcerated people as potential Democrats, citing research into the voting habits of formerly incarcerated people. About 30 percent of white respondents chose a Democratic candidate, while 25 percent said they would not vote or did not know which candidate to back.”

That means that, once you consider the votes at the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, Gubernatorial, and State legislature levels, you end up with a composite 56.44% "Republican" and 42.70% "Democrat" (those don't total 100% because some people actually vote for people who are neither "Republican" nor "Democrat"). That's a difference of about 14% in favour of the "Republican" party and I'd say that that was a sufficient difference to get Ohio into the "Red State" zone - wouldn't you?
