A most interesting aspect of this whole case is we all know when an African American is accused of a crime there is not much effort on getting people to accuse him of being guilty based on nothing more than rumors from one or two sources.

Why has Cosby been outside the normal reactions? It cannot be simply due to his celebrity because the same excuse was not provided for in cases regarding people like Tupac or Mike Tyson.

The primary reason Cosby has been protected is white privilege and his racism towards African Americans. The same people who held him up repeatedly as a "credit to his race" did not want to admit they have been backing a rapist as well as a racist.

The reason Cosby was protected is because at the time these things were going on he was one of the most powerful and well liked men in show business. He was the personification of family values. I believe white privilege is an issue in our society but I don't really think it played a part here. Had Cosby not come out in the past and told young black men to talk different and to pull their pants up Cosby STILL would have been given the benefit of the doubt.

That's literally the only reason he gets a pass and nobody has looked at this with more scrutiny. 30 years ago, he had a few popular TV shows and they gave a lot of men (white or black) who I can only assume grew up without fathers a positive father figure to look at. That's it.

Even when the posters defending him aren't men, they still go to absurd lengths to defend the guy. One female poster on this forum even lightly joked that Cosby had molested her too. Cosby gave a segment of American society a good time 30 years ago, and people still remember him positively, so few people are willing to look at him for what he clearly is: A rapist.

That said:

The underlined part of your statement is silly. Cosby isn't racist. If anything, he was probably one of the first figures in media to deal with issues important to black people in the US. I can concede that a lot of the depictions he gave of blacks weren't necessarily positive (Fat Albert is just a bunch of ghetto black kids bull****ting through life, not a parent in sight, not a lot of interest in education).

However, these depictions were a product of their time and not really exceptions in media. That said, Cosby also had a role in making much of America "comfortable" with black culture. There are many people in the US who probably would have become blatant racists if Cosby's work hadn't made a point of having all black casts and showing that black people faced many of the same issues as whites. Likewise, there are many young black people who saw positive messages in Cosby's work and probably used it for reference later on.

Cosby profited from all of this and yes he allowed racial stereotypes to infiltrate his work, but that's hardly a enough evidence to call him "racist".

You grasp of the concept is non-existent. Blacks cannot be racist against whites because racism is a social construct perpetuated by the (power) majority against the (again, power, not always numbers) minority.

It is impossible for a minority power to oppress the majority power as a group. Do you believe it's possible for blacks to oppress whites as a group? Well, obviously whites do oppress blacks as a group.

Of course, it is possible for minorities to contribute to the oppression of minorities (this occurs in several ways), whether it be their minority group or another. As they are not members of the benefiting party, through systemic privilege, (in the case of Cosby perpetuating racism against blacks, if that claim is true), they may perpetuate racism without being racists.

You are going to wear that "white privilege" phrase out. You claim Cosby (a black guy) isn't ostracized because he has "white privilege". If people keep abusing the phrase it will mean NOTHING to anyone except the person that is using it.

Yeah, that is going to work. When I see this I realize that some people never want racism to end. It is nothing more than an excuse for some people to act like racists with impunity.

Statute of limitations has long run out on nearly all of these women. One woman (that I know of) brought a civil suit a few years ago, and his deposition in that case contained a "confession" that he brought drugs for women he wanted to have sex with, although he stopped short of stating that the sex wasn't consensual.

That's when I decided that there was enough evidence in my mind to believe Cosby is a serial rapist, despite the fact that he will never be legally held accountable for his crimes. If it brings these women closure to discuss what happened to them, that's fine with me. Personally, I'd be concerned that his lawyers would be recording every word for a slander lawsuit down the road.

This isn't actually true. The "Confession" was simply corroborating the story of two women who stated that they had taken drugs willingly before sex with Cosby (can't remember the drug but it is one that is supposed to heighten sexual experience). But then if that means you are a rapist then we should arrest practically everyone in Hollywood.

Maybe you have some form of KKKrometer where it is only racist if it meets certain tenets but that is not applicable and you only touched on one aspect of his racism.
