Conservatives can be funny

Conservatives don't understand the concept of dropping their ideology from their sleeves in the name of humor and also don't want to ever "offend their base". Humor works best from a situation of weakness. Every comic is self deprecating, because powerful people aren't funny. A rich guy making fun of poor people isn't funny, it's mean and nasty. Humor is about struggle, it's about being put in situations where you're restricted. Comedy has always been a means to criticize the establishment, and conservatives tend to be in the establishment. Also conservative parents tend to raise kids who want them to be financially successful, they steer them away from the arts and those kids will be less likely to aspire to being a comedians, entertainers or musicians.

Yes, all Conservatives are " Rich ", walk around wearing tails and top hats, have a monocle and carry around large bags with a dollar sign written on them in Green...

If you only truely understood the Conservative ideology instead of thinking the delusions bouncing around in your head are representative of anything close to reality.

The meat of it is if a comic is selling himself/herself/itself as a member of a group and not a unique individual the product of whose bewildering and dazzling life is sufficient to engender comedy, it's because he isn't very good. Conservative comedians almost always have to remind their audience that they're conservative. Humor that upholds the social order and treads lightly with the status quo is only so funny.

Oh God what a bunch of over thought nonsense, and not just you, this entire thread. It's just ridiculous.

I just have zero experience with these sort of things you are talking about... I think it's more confronting words that are used for the very reason of being PC...just say whats natural...That's the message I get.

So yea I guess it's PC about PC words... but it seems different because that is exactly what it is and not about anything else... Like I said I don't think most the right wing is telling Muslims should say merry Christmas... it's not a universal it's addressing it's addressing a word that is trying to force itself to be universal

I don't think most progressives who say "happy holidays" are trying to universally force others to say it. Most are just trying to be inclusive and could care less what others say. But I am certain some do. Works the other way as well.

My 4-year-old was told not to say, 'Happy holidays.' Here's how I responded.

Weird, the OP is claiming their are funny conservatives, conservatives that can consistently produce humor that is top notch.....but I see very little supporting evidence. If Paul is the best that he can come up with.....doesn't that answer the question?

Give credit where it's due. Rand was funny. And that he does it annually on festivus... pretty funny stuff. He's a politician not a professional comedian.

I read some of his tweets, I did not find much humor.

I don't know if you understand Western Civilization humor, so let me give this to chew on. You see, Western Civilization has been at root a power system based on near absolute power, something conservatives thrive in because authoritarianism is dualistic, it requires members who can move easily from positions of power to positions of subservience seamlessly...where one can accept either the role of leader or follower without challenge. Cons do this well (re: Altemeyer), liberals not so much, and one the earliest examples of humor in Western culture is the jester, the clown who was allowed to make fun of the authority figure as a means to relieve some of the tension in a court....to a limited degree. Liberalism is at root a move against authoritarianism, a questioning of authority....and this is not something that is within the canon of conservative ideology....hence, conservatives are not good at humor because they are not comfortable with mocking authority. It is not something that is deep in their ideals.
