Debt panel poised to admit failure - Yahoo! News

these selfish idiots and ideologues couldn't agree, after 2 damn months of negotiations, on a measily $1.2 trillion in savings over 10 years.

Hell, Obama & Boehner almost agreed on $3.8 trillion in savings.

If there was ever a time I felt that Congress was broken, its now. Maybe its time to enact term-limits for Congress.

Congress worked fine without term limits before. Just sayin' The problem is structural and has been a long time coming. There is no quick fix.

The problem is, pretty much anyone else who is running for office is no better than the idiots you're throwing out.

As much as I feel our system is currently hugely flawed, and that our legislators NEED to be reminded of exactly who they are supposed to be working for, I am not a fan of term limits.

Or taxpayers could directly allocate their taxes...aka pragmatarianism.

Blame the voters, they keep re-elecing idiots.

Oh, they don't forget who they're working for -- the people who have the wherewithal to bribe them. Let's hear it for money equaling speech!

Of course money spent on speech is speech.

Money for contributions to candidates isn't speech though, and no court has ever said it was. I hope you're not confusing the two.

However you split the baby, what it means is that if you have more money your support counts for more than just your vote.

The Constitution was considered one of the greatest compromises in human history and to honor that legacy we now have politicians who can't even compromise on how much the government needs to increase taxes and cut spending to reduce the nation's debt.

Not only are they unable to compromise, their new version of working together consists of playing chicken on matters affecting the whole of the nation. Both parties are playing the sort of game that most of us grow out of when we're done being teenagers.

They handle a budget of trillions of dollars, oversee matters of justice and national security, participate in the process of selecting Federal and Supreme Court judges, check the President on matters of foreign policy -- and their problem solving methods date back to high school.

How it is that any rational adult can carry water for either party is completely beyond me.

if you are referring to the GOP's refusal to entertain increasing revenue by any substantial amounts, than yes..you are correct.

We're over spending. Not underspending. Why the hell, in a weak economy, would you RAISE taxes?

The people in office only think in term limits. They can't do the hard and tough thinking for an overall better country. Making plans for the future will fix this problem.

we are spending more money than we have. there are reasons for this, including the Bush tax-cuts.

No, we're spending more money then we have because... WE'RE OVER SPENDING! Damn, imagine that.

because we are under revenuing.

No, we're over spending.

You don't help an economy by taking MORE from the productive sector (that'd be private hands) and suck it into the wastedump of Government.

because we are under revenuing.

Sure, suck more money from taxpayers, so the government can turn around and send it back into the economy by spending it. Makes total sense.

Why not raise taxes to 100% of GDP, then the government can issue everyone a paycheck.
