Off on their summer recess with no spending bills passed or even ready to go other than the defense spending bill which is in a big mess. Guess they were too busy with Hunter to do their job. They aren't back until mid September and government funding runs out in October so get ready for a shut down, the Freedom Caucus has promised one. I can't even begin to imagine how the House and the Senate, heck even the House, can come to a meeting of the minds on spending. If not those big funding cuts contained in the debt ceiling bills cut in January 1st.

BTW......Did Archer show up today?

I am coming to conclusion that many in the GOP have an actual political death wish. Nobody but nobody wants to be blamed for government shut down. Yet these boneheads are reveling in the possibility....wallowing in it. Never seen anything like it.

The most serious issue facing the federal govt, is the systemic dysfunction of Congress. No national govt can survive, let alone thrive without a functioning legislative body.

Has the elected R led HoR done any governing this session?

They did the same last year when democrats ran the House. I don't like it but it's not unusual at all. As far as Hunter, he's scum and needs to go to jail for his federal gun crime, his income tax evasion, and his accepting foreign money in violation of FARA. That's just starters. The left loved it when Manafort got time for FARA so what's the difference.

Compare and contrast. You're wrong

I taught summer school this year and so I get 5 weeks off this summer.

Can we please stop using teachers as an example of the job that has the most time off?

Huh? Was he ever supposed to show up on 7/28?

Beats me . I though it was suppose to be Monday but someone here said it was today because of the recess. I just added it as a foot note in the hopes whoever posted that it was today might see it. I wish it was public. I have no faith in behind closed doors with no Dems there.

Change the locks and then pretend we can't hear them when they knock.

I'm always relieved when Congress is in recess. It means they cannot pass stupid laws which restrict the liberties and freedoms of Americans.

Congress should be in recess more often, and for longer periods of time.

Nope, I'm not. It's happens all the time. The left just before the new year last year as well and had to come back to one of those you have 24 hours to read and pass this crap.

Well, for one thing, Hunter Biden hasn't worked in government. But since you're so down on him, I swear that I will never vote for him if he runs for office.

But if I were you, I'd back off claims that anyone go to jail for income tax evasion - unless you were hoping Trump goes to jail, too. The Trump Organization has already been found guilty of that in a court of law, and fined 1.6 million dollar$. Likewise accepting foreign money, because the list of Trump's violations of the Emoluments Clause is longer than Trump's red tie.

We all know the reason for that is elephants. Some Republicans broke from Trump the Terrorist as a person, but even they have not broken from their political positions against LGBT people, abortions, etc. And very few Republicans will vote for a Democrat just to keep him or Con DeathSantis out of office because hating all Democrats is more important to them than loving the country. Vote blue, no matter who.

What makes you think "no Dems there"? Here are the Dem Oversight committee members.

Not to mention next door.

Yes I know that but up until now the Dems have been excluded from the closed door sessions with GOP Committee staff as well as immediate access to the transcripts. We will see if they are allowed this time. I suspect that is why they scheduled this when the actual committee members are gone .

What does that have to do with Monday? Do you have a source saying who will be there on Monday? What made you toss this in:

I have no faith in behind closed doors with no Dems there.

Let's talk Tuesday .......meanwhile Congress is adjourned and there are no spending bills on the table and it is likely the government is going to be shut down. Governing does not seem to be the priority

Yes, the Confederate Party (former Republican Party) in recess is a good thing.

You apparently didn't get the memo.

Congress has not passed all twelve appropriation bills since the 107th Session of Congress in 2000. The federal budget for the last 23 years has consisted of Continuing Resolutions, Omnibus, and Supplemental Spending bills. The majority of which are passed with a veto-proof majority, making it impossible for the President to object.

Even if the House were to become suddenly responsible and pass all twelve appropriation bills, it wouldn't matter since there are no real budgets any longer. Prior to 2000 Congress use to base the federal budget on projected revenues. For the last 23 years Congress hasn't given a damn what the projected revenues might be, they just pulled any number they wanted out of their collective asses. Which also makes any deficit or surplus completely meaningless since the budget is not based on anything.
