Confederate names make comeback, triggering lawsuits

Then in the name of fairness should we rename the US Army 1st Calvary Division? The Calvary slaughtered how many Indians?

Should we remove President William Henry Harrison statue in Ohio? They tried, but ran into some hurdles. Indications are its still there.

How about the one in Washington DC?

He was CIC during the Indian Slaughters and was a slave holder.

It's about naming schools after complete idiots who made the dumbest blunder in history. Who in history did anything stupider than what those Confederate leaders did?

I found it humorous that they went to Harrisonburg to file suit, without irony.

They do when they vote. Just like those who want the Confederate names to come back.

So they're gonna vote on it then? Seems like that would be cheaper for the school district :D

How was it any different from the Revolution against His Britannic Majesty George III? Revolutions happen. Some are successful, others not

What a dumb question.
The difference is as obvious as the nose on your face.
Is there a United States of America today? How about a Confederate States of America?

The Confederacy was an abject failure, a blunder of epic proportions.
Go ahead, name a bigger, dumber mistake.

It was an unsuccessful revolution. That's all. You are making a mountain out of a molehill. Confederate had families, friends and followers. They are free to commemorate them.

How about a more generic “Traitor High School?”

The thirteen obscure colonies were traitors to His Britannic Majesty George III, does that make the United States "Traitor States of America"?

Why do you think they changed the names back?

From the link

"But the momentum has slowed, and those who see honoring Confederate names as part of their heritage and history have worked to get those names back."

“Confederate statues were taken down, the names of Confederate soldiers were removed from buildings and it really was a good moment for many of us in the movement,” Whittenberg said. “Right after that, we saw a lot of the backlash and really just blatant attacks on all of the gains for education equity.”

In the end that's what it's all about, the slavery thing and how the issue pisses people off. God knows those Confederates didn't accomplish anything worth commemorating unless it's worth erecting memorials to total, abject failure and about the stupidest blunder in history.

Apparently the families and descendants of the Confederacy disagree with you. Clearly they care for their ancestors, why do you object to folks honouring their dear ones? A man is not supposed to honour his dad because his dad was a Reb?

How is the war that killed more Americans than any other a molehill?

They were the dumbest national leaders in history. Bar none. Go ahead, name a bigger ****-up.
They totally screwed up and accomplished nothing except self-destruction.

It was a weird type of “revolution” then since it was started to preserve the status quo.

“We fight to keep things exactly as they are!”

"How was it any different" ???????

Seriously?

Because they were separatists and traitors?

This isn't about families honouring their dear ones. Give your head a shake. This is about trying to force the public domain to commemorate abject stupidity and failure.
Actually, it's not even that. It's about trying to piss people off.

Yes. Absolutely.

What’s the joke about Great Britain? They are the largest exporters of independence days.

By shear luck, Grant achieved victory at Fort Donelson. Admiral Footes's Navy Ironclads were spanked and sent drifting dead in the water northward back to Cairo Illinois. His ships took a beating from the Confederate battery on the river.

CSA officers Floyd and Pillow made a huge tactical blunder after Day 1 of fighting that had hammered the Union and drove them back from their lines.

In fact, Grant had a surrender letter penned that due to the gift from his West Point buddies, he never had to use

If the CSA had gone on to win at Donelson Grant would have never been. He would have been sent back to Missouri where he was selling firewood after being thrown out of the Army for being a drunk.

Now you know some facts about our Civil War.

Glad to help. 👍

The whole history of the Confederacy was four years of warfare ending in their complete destruction. Coulda's, woulda's, mightof's, none of that means a damned thing when success or failure are the only standards. The Confederacy failed about as big-time as it's possible to fail. They blundered about as big-time as it's possible to blunder.
Go ahead, tell me how they could have screwed everything up worse. There's not a single thing to point at to be proud of.
All their 'legacy' is good for is to piss people off. If that's what drives pride, well, must suck.
