"Republicans are finding it fair game to attack Delaware congresswoman Sarah McBride on the floor of Congress by purposely misgendering her. The first elected trans member of Congress has faced an uphill battle with Republicans, led by South Carolina rep Nancy Mace, who promised she would block McBride from using women's rooms in the Capital building. Her threat did not come to pass after a rule was set in place by Speaker Mike Johnson barring transgender people from using single-sex bathrooms.

...McBride also turned the other cheek on the House floor when Illinois Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller said she "refused to deny biological reality" by addressing Sarah McBride as "the gentleman from Delaware" on the floor of the House Thursday, reports the Daily Mail.

Miller spoke before McBride was set to give her first speech on the House floor.

"The chair recognizes the gentleman from Delaware, Mr. McBride, for five minutes," Miller said.

McBride made no response to Miller's comments; instead said, "Thank you, Madame Speaker" before making her prepared remarks."

The GOP is the party of rude and petty trolls. The Republicans in Congress can't even treat a colleague with dignity or decency.

Such needless crap. The numbers reading this thatbwill applaud with glee is disgusting. They have lost all perspective when it comes to basic human decency. They love this rude, bullying, demeaning stuff. Good on her for handing it with grace.

Sarah McBride should absolutely be treated with respect and I do think the acceptance of trans people was making a lot of headway but the years long push to punish people for using the wrong pronouns has set that back. The one thing that cannot be controlled is someone else’s thoughts or speech and trying to do so will create a backlash.

Republicans abandoned decorum long ago with the constant “Democrat Party” trolling. I expect nothing but childishness from them. So this taunting, along with other bullying, of Congresswoman McBride is predictable.

Sarah McBride is twice the woman Mary Miller will ever be. Good on her for handling that situation gracefully, but the sad part is she shouldn’t have to.

This could have been handled simply by referring to her as Congressperson if there was a legitimate personal objection to recognizing her as female using feminine pronouns.

Whatever happened to that repuke asshole who yelled "you lie" during Obama's address?

Sarah McBride is a very brave young woman. She knows very well that her "colleagues" will misgender her and accuse her of being a sexual predator/groomer without any evidence.

The best thing she can do is constantly stand tall, chin up, and ignore their bully tactics.

We're all know it's a distraction point for them. Republicans won the Senate and Presidency back because of the rise of cost of living in America. The anti-trans stuff is red meat for the base.

As my parents have said to me many times throughout my life, it costs nothing to be respectful and kind to people.

We aren’t talking about someone that changes their they/them pronouns on a weekly basis.

Referring to someone who is trans by the pronouns that correlate to the gender they transitioned to is just common decency. Would you refer to Sarah McBride as “Mr”? I am guessing no because you aren’t an asshole or a cruel person, so why excuse the behavior of those that are?

Or they could just not be rude assholes? Why make excuses for people that conduct themselves in a way that you would not. This is nothing more than rudeness.

It is disrespectful to use people's incorrect pronouns. This is like saying we shouldn't get offended if a member of congress calls Byron Donalds the n-word.

Nobody is punishing people for using the wrong pronouns. It's disrespectful, but not illegal. But it is absolutely ignorant, unscientific to deny that gender exists in our society. Some people in our society have a different gender than their sex.

Ms. McBride didn't choose to be transgender. There's even scientific studies that shows that transgender females have female-shaped brains, and transgender males have male-shaped brains, despite their chromosomes or reproductive organs.

I do agree with that. My understanding for awhile is that fully transitioning is a pretty intensive process that I don’t think anyone would undertake that unless they’re sincere. Over the last couple of years, though, we’ve all seen the videos of the fully bearded guy in a skirt ranting about being misgendered and that’s been damaging to the understanding of what it means to be trans.

I understand that, however, you cannot legislate it or demand it or expect it’s going to happen 100% of the time. Nobody’s self worth should rely on the actions of someone else.
Would you refer to Sarah McBride as “Mr”?
No, it’s obvious she’s living as a woman.
I am guessing no because you aren’t an asshole or a cruel person, so why excuse the behavior of those that are?
There’s not much I can do about it. Lots of people do things differently than I think they should.

There is nothing rude about saying Congressperson. And I made no excuses for her.

Yeah this is rude. She's not asking to be addressed as some nonsense.
