Civilian military employees allowed to return to work - Dallas News | myFOXdfw.com

The Pentagon on Sunday called back to work most of its roughly 400,000 civilian employees, based on administration lawyers' legal interpretation of the recent government shutdown. That includes employees at Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station Fort Worth.

The base posted Twitter and Facebook that workers should resume their normal work schedules on Monday. The base commissary will also reopen.

The order to return to work was given by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, five days after roughly 800,000 federal workers were sent home after Congress failed to reach a deal to fund the government.

Hagel said the decision to recall the workers is based on a Pentagon legal interpretation of a law called the Pay Our Military Act.

Wonder how long that will last after President Stompy Feet throws his next tantrum. Shutdowns are supposed to be painful, hence the closure of open air venues and warnings to Wall Street.

This was guaranteed to happen when the house voted unanimously to fund back pay for all furloughed employees.

You know that he signed the bill into law that allowed for this to happen right?

No wait, of course you don't silly question.

Obama is just that much more insidious. Signing bills that do things he doesn't want to do is all part of the plan.

Its based on a Pentagon lawyer's interpretation of the law, namely Sec 2(a)(2), "support to members of the Armed Forces". According to the lawyers, "moral support" is included.

Couldn't that be construed as being literally every government employee?

Heard this morning that there are more government employees working to keep people out of the national monuments than were working at the monuments to begin with.

That summizes Obama perfectly.

It's stupid, but it's the law. This was not a unilateral executive decision. Shutdown procedures have been around for ages.

It speaks perfectly to the point that government needs to be DRASTICALLY reduced.

Build me a helluva military, a system of roads, protect the borders, and enforce a basic set of laws that protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Then, get out of my way.

Petition your government to tear down the WW2 monument, then.

Sorry, dude...that's not going to happen. At least not while there are liberals around who know what you need...better than you do.

The previous sections detail the employees designation, i.e. where they worked previously. Its still an interesting interpretation of "support".

Typical. They assumed Republicans would blink, but weren't actually willing to go through with it when it turned out we depend on our civilian workforce.

Or petition them to stop suddenly dumping money on blocking people from going to monuments and parks and intentionally trying to inconvenience citizens when there was no police presence there previously. Only you (well...only people LIKE you)...

YAY!! The Commissary is open again. Thank God. It is way to expensive shopping out in town for most food items. Plus, my husband might get to start his physical therapy.
