Dale McAlpine was charged with causing “harassment, alarm or distress” after a homosexual police community support officer (PCSO) overheard him reciting a number of “sins” referred to in the Bible, including blasphemy, drunkenness and same sex relationships.
The 42-year-old Baptist, who has preached Christianity in Wokington, Cumbria for years, said he did not mention homosexuality while delivering a sermon from the top of a stepladder, but admitted telling a passing shopper that he believed it went against the word of God.
Police officers are alleging that he made the remark in a voice loud enough to be overheard by others and have charged him with using abusive or insulting language, contrary to the Public Order Act.
Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin - Telegraph
Wow. Welcome to politically correct fascism, can I take your order?
That's the thing about Free Speech. It applies to speech that you may disagree with.
I hope the United States never goes this far. We have to vigilantly protect Free Speech and an attitude of tolerance the expression of ideas we find repugnant.
Where's Cumbria? Is that UK?
You mean like "Yes We Can?"
As I suspected, you prefer the conservative slogan "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO *plugs ears*"
Difference of opinion I guess!
Yep. That's what the google told me. North West England.
The Google is wise.

Technically the officer was in the wrong, but my sympathy for the preacher = zero. For years the religious right has repeatedly acted to deny gays equal rights, so when the law is used against a preacher for acting like the dickwad he's grown so comfortable being in this nation, I admit I get a small chuckle out of it.

So, the gent in question was approached by a woman who engaged him in conversation about religion. In the course of this conversation, he mentioned a number of things that the Bible asserts to be sin, one of which was homosexuality.
He was arrested, in essence, for saying what his religion believes to a woman who willingly engaged him in conversation on the topic of religion. He is being charged and tried for this.
And you're okay with it.
Well, I guess that's it for Freedom of Speech huh?
This fanaticism for gay "rights" makes no sense to me. Why do you fight so hard for this particular alternative lifestyle? Why not Polygamists or other alternative lifestyles?
You can't achieve civil rights for all marginalized people at the same time. It's not indicative of any hypocrisy, it's just that it's most likely impossible.
Baby steps.
Then you should support all alternative lifestyles yet I bet if I name a few you wouldn't approve of them.
Freedom of speech, huh? I guess constitutional protections are good for some people but not others. I disagree. Still, I said
"Technically the officer is in the wrong."
Reading is gud.
Yes, you said that. You also said you had no sympathy for the preacher and got a chuckle out of it, which I took to indicate a certain amount of approval.
Make up your mind, are you ok with it or not?
