We have all read that chocolate has health benefits.
That, of course, doesn't mean sugary or milky chocolate, it means as small amounts as dark as possible.
You have get a taste for eating darker.
I've been loving Scharffenberger 70% for many years on pure taste grounds, now occasionally higher concentration other brands.
70% is the threshold on most bars for when the label says 'cocoa' Before it says 'sugar'.

I was on a chocolate kick once and tried a bunch of brands. TBH, I was not crazy about Scharffenberger even though it is highly rated. Maybe my tastes are bit pedestrian but IIRC, I liked Dove and Ghiardelli best.

This thread gets the Goshin Seal of Approval.... unlike politics, chocolate is a very serious matter. :)

And if you love chocolate, you also love eating cockroaches.

According to Morton Teich, an allergist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, contamination by cockroaches and their droppings is unavoidable, because it happens at cocoa beans' source — the farms where they are produced. Preventing them from infiltrating the harvest would require the use of more pesticides, which Teich says are much worse for you than consuming a few extra bug parts.

When raw chocolate is shipped, it arrives covered in roaches. The whole thing is heated and ground (roaches and chocolate). Yum.

I used to love chocolate but as I refined diet and lifestyle, and have been experiencing a lot more clarity in my body and mind, I find that chocolate unbalances my system. And I'm not allergic or anything.

I've yet to figure out why sugar is related to weight loss. I get the diabetes aspect, but the calories? A teaspoon of sugar is 16calories, a tablespoon therefore is 48calories, and even the sweetest of teas, Texas tea in big 24 oz glass has less than a tablespoon of sugar. It isn't that caloric. I've never given up sugar for alternatives, and I'm one of the slenderest women around. And I drink Texas tea, 2-3 a day, no sodapops, very very sweet coffee in the morning, and eat sugary sweets, though they are not flour-y sweets. Granted I'm not everyone, but the tally for calories connected with sugar specifically doesn't make sense, especially for people who are mainly using sweeteners for their drinks and not for desserts as I also do.

This goes counter to the general rule that things that taste good are bad for you.

So, you eat your celery sticks if you want. I'll go have some nice, dark chocolate. That's my favorite anyway, and I don't even mind the cockroach parts.

Next lesson: Red wine and resveratrol.

Years ago I did the same.
I went to https://www.chocosphere.com/ (Enjoy), and tried all the ostensibly best brands on the planet.

Turned out my favorite was still one I had tried and bought previous from humble Trader Joes (Ocumare, by Chocovic, also a 70%) which is no longer made.
So I've been messing around with many since: Scharffenberger is a widely available fallback and favorite.
I hate the pervasive 'Lindt' and also 'Green & Blacks' btw.
Somewhat like coffee, the idea is flavor without bitterness.

To me 70% is app the magic number between too sweet and too bitter.
There is a helpful Chocolate review site by that name.
Seventy%
