(CBS) Trump tariff plans bring concern about prices, financial impact, but GOP base sees jobs long-term — CBS News poll

Exactly. There is no direct evidence that the WH is negotiating with 75 countries except for what the WH has told us. Just as DoGE has told us there is massive fraud throughout government, not one DoJ prosecution for fraud.

I would compare this to the statement made by Trump's physician today. No way is any of it true. Especially the part of him winning so many golf championships. Everyone knows he cheats his ass off.

The bolded is the overarching point'.

But the specific point is, as best I can tell, the poster's very article he posted & cited (Newsweek) directly disproves his point and prevails ours.

Especially when we use every extra dollar taken in to hand out to the billionaires in the form of massive tax cuts. You know, I could stomach all this tariff nonsense and DoGE cuts if we were using it to pay down the deficit/debt. But we are not.

Bingo! (y)

We are being forced to suffer pain & misery, for what? To pay for Billionaire tax cuts? No way.

Yes this early in the NEW Tariff negotiations,

No. We're in a tariff war. Trump never negotiated.

and with the Media screaming the worlds going to end, then YES MOST Americans
will be uneasy with all this turmoil , and most people do like stability and calmness so sure a poll could be designed to get this
result!

If you had a poll asking if you think it's fair for America should raise Tariffs on a Nation to half of what they are levying on America?
I bet > 90% would say yes! Now if you told them things might get rough for a little while the weak people would change their minds....

We have the current OP (CBS) poll, which is the subject of the thread.

You've presented no other current polling data to the contrary. Feel free to cite other current polls concurrent with today's, or when they are released.

Closely allied, I can additionally present the current data on Trump's handling of the economy and inflation. I think we might be able to infer that Trump's tariff activities would be at least tangentially allied with his handling of the economy, if not indeed a major element of it.

Reporting on Trump is fine as long as they apply the same standards when reporting about Democrat highjinxs - which they don't.
What a stupid comment.

If one neighbor sets his house on fire and the other neighbor runs his sprinklers when it’s raining, is it really the “same standards” to condemn them both equally?

Everywhere you go, there's always going to be some suckers.

You do know that stock markets go up too, right?
They do not when the market believes we are headed for recession...

Newsweek thinks so.
Cite for the Newsweek article saying 75 countries are negotiating. I really, really doubt that is true. My suspicion is that the Newsweek article quotes the White House saying that is true, which would be circular logic.

The only Newsweek article I see on this thread is an article from April 4, two days after the tariffs were announced showing the US tariff and the odd calculation levied on each of these countries as to what their "tariff" was (which was largely trade deficits, not tariffs). If you think that article supports your point, think again, since it was two days from the tariff announcement -- there was no way 75 countries even acknowledged the tariff, let alone considered what they would do about it AND reached out to Washington, that is just nonsensical....

So please, lets see a link to the Newsweek article that you think supports this point....

It already has been. Musk totally screwed the pooch with the Wisconsin election. Dems have won or cut the margins in half in all the other special elections.

Unless Trump pulls off a miracle, which is not likely for Trump, the 2026 elections have already been called.

Even if Trump cancels his toy trade war, no one is going to allow voters to forget the confusion and chaos he's caused. Along with 100 other disasters. Also, if the GOP gets its massive tax cuts passed and cancels health care (Medicaid) for 40+ million Americans, it will spell disaster for the GOP.

Bernie and AOC had another rally yesterday in LA attracting more then 35K people. Main message, oligarchs are taking our money.

Trump had better hope the DOW recovers past it's former level (45K) before the Midterm Election.

If not, the GOP are doo.

When it hits 44K, they will dump/short and reimpose tariffs.

They will continue to do this until most of the suckers stop buying back in.

Huh? SNAFU is a choice. Do nothing. Follow the LW's march to a totalitarian regime.

The other choice is continuing SNAFU.

Trump is trampling due process.

He’s the totalitarian

Huh? Nothing's FU'ed at all.
Yeah... this is all normal procedure. Your opinion is based on partisanship alone, and deserves ridicule because you made it a point to post.

inflation is down, jobs are up. recession talk is lunacy. But i do agree the whole thing was needlessly chaotic

Those numbers are no better than what Biden left him.

Honestly you guys think the world operates like a TV show - Opening commercial, problem occurs, commercial, actors find solution, commercial, problem with solution, commercial problem solved - preview of next episode. Closing commercial. Proving all problems can be solution in :52 minimum with 5 commercials.
real world ain't like that, bro.

You’re describing what an average Trump supporter believes.

Huh? National debt is a looooooonnnnnnngggggg way from being solved and nothing in the current situation has any relation to the issue.

You’re the one who brought it up.

I mentioned it as a problem - $36 trillion in debt. It's up to Congress to write the budgets and curtain the spending some how. Trade deals and lowered tariffs aint' gonna make much difference.

Yeah a problem as it relates to the trade war Trump started. You seem to be unable to track the conversation happening in this thread.

I wonder if inflation rates will increase due to price increases from the tariffs. Asking for a friend.

Just shows how ****ing stupid his base is what was our unemployment when Trump took office?
We would be a better country if these morons would all just jump off a cliff like the lemmings they are.

The problem is that they're going to pull the rest of us off the cliff without our permission.

Can you show me a nice graph on media sentiment and positive vs negative stories on Trump?

Should the media pretend Trump is somehow not an idiot and doesn’t know what he’s doing?

You prefer it when Fox and Friends lies to you?

The goal is to demonstrate that Trump is the best and smartest negotiator ever.... By blundering around like an ox that has no idea what he is doing, and hoping that other countries make deals with him in the hope that he will stop.

He's so good that after China matched him tariff for tariff, he unilaterally capitulated and removed most of them.

China's response to this? Besides not touching theirs?

"Remove them all Mr. Trump - Now!"

I'd liked to know the President's metrics for defining success in negotiation, because this one isn't looking too good from where I'm sitting.

IMO, this stuff was so heavy, they probably need some kind of turn-around to erase it.

Though I dunno'. We have short memories.

Yep. While all progress was the result of change, not all changes will result in progress.
