California Prop 36 Overwhelmingly Passes

It's pretty sad when the residents of a state have to actually vote on passing a law to make the government do what they were elected for in the first place.

It's madness.
Here, here. I could not imagine living somewhere where this was the prevailing attitude of the local and state government. For those that do live there, aside from the state's beauty, I've no idea why you stay.

Makes sense to me.

It should be a felony if the value of the stolen material and the damage done exceeds the threshold of felony theft.

About 6+ years too late, but that's California's democratic leadership.
It was Democrats who supported it the most.
Gascon had the best intentions but he did not lift a finger to learn how to implement his ideas for reform so he used an axe instead of a scalpel.
Dems got rid of him AND reversed a crap execution of reform laws and measures.
There aren't enough Republicans in the state to have passed the measure themselves.

But hey thanks for bashing California some more, why are you here?

At this point in time, Kamala's position on Prop 36 isn't even relevant.

Yes - our Neighborhood Watch Captain is a . . . democrat. And the guy is armed to the teeth. I'm not joking.

True. And sad. It will take a long time to remedy all the messes that the dems have created in the past 25 years.
Last time Repubs controlled this state California was trying to sell off schools, fire stations and other government installations they were so bankrupt.

An overwhelming 71% of Californians supported Proposition 36, which will upgrade misdemeanor smash-n-grab crimes to Felony.

Prop 47 (which was passed in 2014) downgraded most thefts from felonies to misdemeanors if the amount stolen was under $950. Prop 36 effectively reverses Prop 47 and smash-n-grab crimes can once again be prosecuted as felonies and are now eligible for Three Strikes protocols.

This is a crushing blow to Governor Newsom, L.A.D.A. Gascon and all the rest of the Californian LWLs who will do whatever they can to coddle criminals.

Prop 36 is an important referendum on Crime.

Oh, so now MAGAs are in favour of upgrading misdemeanors into felonies??

Hmmmm, this is interesting...

The measure was endorsed by the editorial board of The New York Times, which praised it as a way to reduce overcrowding in the state's prisons.[13] It was endorsed by the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times, which wrote that the measure was a "good and timely measure that can help the state make smarter use of its criminal justice and incarceration resources."[14] The American Civil Liberties Union supported the measure, and donated $3.5 million to support it.[15]

Prominent individual supporters included Jay-Z and Newt Gingrich.[16] <<<---aren't they both "smaller gov" types?

You may want to rethink you cheap shots at Newsom.

Prop 47 DOWNGRADED the crimes to misdemeanors.
Personally, if the law had been more carefully written, it instead might have featured certain allowances for FIRST time ONLY offenders who also demonstrated legit signs of otherwise being good students or good citizens who simply made one small mistake.
That way there would not have been any loophole for frequent and habitual criminals at all, just regular folks who may have made a first and ONLY mistake in judgment.

What?? 😆 No, not MAGAs.

Californians overwhelmingly voted to pass the measure, and the majority of Californians are democrats - not MAGAs. Even the dems are getting fed up with the crime.

Prop 36 empowers prosecutors to go after the smash-n-grab criminals, and it empowers local City authorities to bulldoze homeless encampments.

I was talking about how MAGAs were complaining about Trump's charges being upgraded to felonies.

Another criminal coddling California Progressive DA was removed. This time through a recall:

Alameda County, California, District Attorney Pamela Price was recalled early Wednesday, less than two years after taking office, following backlash for her alleged soft-on-crime approach.

The effort was backed by the recall committee Save Alameda for Everyone (SAFE), and passed with 64.8% of the vote, according to polling results from the county of Alameda. The committee includes former Alameda County prosecutors, county residents, community activists, and crime victims and victims' families, according to the committee's website.

This promotes drug crimes to felonies as well, pretty devastating for a three strikes state.

More slaves in our prisons for California, we’ll need them when Trump deports the country’s apartheid underclass.

Ballot props are a joke. We should really do away with them. I always vote against them on principle, unless voting Yes would reverse the result of a previous ballot prop, as in this case.

It's not hard to stay out of prison.

It's not hard to stay out of prison.
I can’t believe I have to say this.

If you’re a struggling drug addict, you don’t deserve live in prison and involuntary solitude.

I have a niece who was a struggling drug addict and is only alive today because she was put in prison for 6 months.

But that's beside the point. We're not talking about putting anyone in prison and subjecting them to involuntary servitude for merely being a struggling drug addict.

Yes, that’s exactly what we’re talking about.

The law will enact harsher penalties for repeat theft and drug crimes, which were eased a decade ago through the passage of Proposition 47.
Mandatory minimum sentencing as well, this is a ****ing disaster.

Voting to keep indentured solitude was in a separate prop.

If Californians were smart, they would outlaw native Californians from entering California politics. They need a sprinkling of rednecks, roughnecks, offshore workers, farmers, miners, iron workers, auto workers and successful businessmen from around the US to set things right.

When you're done spewing vague propaganda, feel free to point the part of the prop that makes it a felony to be a struggling drug addict.

Meanwhile, I'll break out the world's tiniest violin and play a melancholy tune for those poor innocent criminals who are expected to work to offset a fraction of the massive cost they have inflicted on society.

Work is a good thing. Leave it to CA liberals to make it out to be otherwise.

If you are a drug addict, you are already a slave to drugs. Being a "slave" in prison is redundant.

The California electorate is the dumbest in nation. It's awful having to admit that, but it's true. My Representative was voted THREE times as being the "Most Corrupt Person In Congress" by a D.C. watchdog group. She still is IMO and she's been the Representative for our 43rd District SINCE 1991!

THIRTY THREE years of corruption and incompetence. . . but the idiot voters keep electing her.

Oh well.
Even New Jersey finally caught up to their scumbag corrupt Democratic senator Bob Menendez. His fellow senators knew he was corrupt. If your representative is truly corrupt as you say she is, why no investigations? Thirty one years and still surviving is quite an accomplishment.

Did we ever find out how Kamala voted on this one? She definitely wasn't confident in her position.
She no doubt voted for the criminals

The fact that voters had to do this is a perfect example of why Democrats had such a bad night last Tuesday.

Wait. I thought Californians were FOR crime??

This will have to be the pattern for all Liberal insanity in America!
The Blues states will drink the cool aid and support the insanity until they see (what SANE people had already told them would happen) the effects then they will
have to vote/support sanity i.e. Anti-Democrat leadership!

Men in Women's Sport is following this same path!

she couldn't even say she approved it.. it's a no-brainer
