Spurred by outrage over recent mass shootings, California lawmakers on Thursday sent Gov. Jerry Brown a sweeping package of gun control bills, including a ban on the sale of semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines, background checks for those buying ammunition and new restrictions on homemade firearms.

The flood of bills was introduced in response to the December terrorist attack in San Bernardino that killed 14 people at a holiday party, but momentum for action swelled after the June 12 mass shooting at an Orlando, Fla., nightclub that killed 49 people.

“The killer sprayed that nightclub with bullets,” Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) said during the floor debate Thursday. “How could someone filled with so much hate have such easy access to ammunition?”

The bills sent to the governor include:

Ammunition sales: Requires an ID and background check to purchase ammunition and creates a new state database of ammunition owners

Large ammunition clips: Bans possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.

Bullet buttons: Two proposals would strengthen California’s assault weapon law by outlawing a small buttonhole used for quickly swapping out ammunition magazines

Limit on gun loans: A new restriction on loaning guns without background checks.

Stolen gun reporting: Stolen or lost guns would have to reported within five days.

False gun reporting: A new punishment for falsely reporting guns as stolen

Ghost guns: Homemade “ghost guns” would need to be registered and there would be new limits on selling them

Long gun limits: Only one rifle or shotgun could be purchased per month

Gun research: Urges Congress to lift the prohibition against publicly funded scientific research on the causes of gun violence and its effects on public health

Gun restraining orders: Bans a person subject to a “gun violence restraining order” from having any firearms or ammunition while the order is in effect

Gun theft: Clarifies that theft of a firearm is grand theft and is punishable as a felony

It is now up to Gov. Brown to stop the goose stepping Progressive Legislature from applying an even greater stranglehold on the citizens of California. There is only a slight hope that will happen.

As an example of the malfeasance that is the hallmark of their reign, two of the measures, AB 450 and AB 466, resulted from "gut and amend" strategies that seek to hide their actions from the public.

To explain, in a gut and amend offensive, an unrelated bill that has passed out of committee is selected, and it's entire contents erased, with the controversial contents of a bill the people have rejected inserted. This way, the public can be caught unaware, and the Progressives can move forward unopposed. It's the same method they used to become the first government in the world to regulate CO2.

So what happens to everyone that already owns larger magazines and push button releases etc, are they supposed to turn them all in? Will they be compensated? Isn't this confiscation?

It remains to be seen what the ramifications are in total.

Since Progressivism calls for ignoring citizens, it's going to take a little bit of time to parse out the details. With gut and amend a methodology they use to force citizens to bow to their edicts, the final wording can be a challenge to decipher.

Since they generally view the Constitution as a nuisance that has to be worked around, and they view gun owners in general with total disdain, I doubt those who will be economically harmed by their actions will receive any consideration.

For example, when one considers magazines holding more than 10 rounds are already banned in California, what was the purpose of passing a bill that bans large ammunition clips? What is in the small print of this bill?

the main purpose of this idiocy is to drive lots of GOP voters out of California, assuring the scumbag Democrats will have almost guaranteed election wins for the next 50 years. Its idiotic and these are nothing more than gun owner harassment bills. There is a reason why California lost the Olympic shooting trials 25 years ago

My guess is one of them will be an NRA-sponsored lawsuit.

we gun owners have to stop discussing those idiotic bans in terms of the facade of crime control. The low wattage garment soiling hysteric won't spend any time really examining the issues-it will choose "public safety" all the time. So we have to tell people what these laws are about-punishing people who don't vote democrat

The ammunition registry might be a problem.

It will create a huge Black Market..$$$$$$..........Drugs freely go up the I-5 Corridor into Oregon and Washington and ammo will come down that corridor as well. ;)

GOP voters should leave California. Stop supporting a failed state, move elsewhere and watch from the sidelines as it continues to disintegrate.

well youll have to be more specific

unless we are talking different things I have no issues with ID and background checks for ammo
and to my understanding a ghost gun is a homemade gun. I have no issue with policing illegal manufacturing and making of guns and regulating their "sale"

why? you are charged 15 or so dollars for a background check by California. So you want to take your kid shooting and buy a 3 dollar box of 22 LR? and you can buy in other states with no ID. Its a stupid law

really? many gun owners are leaving the socialists cesspools and will end up in free states where their votes will be a safeguard against the idiocy of California style laws
