So the primary focus of this news story from Fox is that a boy's principal used reverse psychology after the boy had been sent to his office multiple times. Anyway, the article does mention the boy was paddled so he went to a state that still allows corporal punishment in school. Corporal punishment should be banned in schools nationwide. And before anybody calls me a liberal I will have you all know overall Im quite conservative. Here is the article.

I was paddled in school. Didn't harm me in the least.

You're seriously gonna put yourself up as evidence? What's next, family members? I can't decide if you really don't want your evidence examined and this is a way to present "evidence" that is easy to counter factually but difficult to counter with decorum. Or, if you're a masochist. Who offers themselves as evidence?

Our school is very focused on the positive. It really works for most kids. Most kids who misbehave all of the time are begging for attention because they have piss-poor parents who don't give them any. When you connect with them personally and praise them when they're doing right, they'll respect you more when you have to chastise them for doing something wrong. They WANT to behave for you because the respect is there.

I'm the teacher who leaves little secret notes on my students' desks that only they will see at the end of the day. I remember one mom emailing me a few years ago thanking me so much for the note to her child because it really boosted her confidence. She couldn't stop talking about it. If you want your kids (or students) to respect your rules, give them a reason why. Make them love you. Make them respect you. Make them want to please you and be better. Constant negative attention never works.

Teaching children that violence against helpless people solves problems, by example, is beyond ridiculous.

Interesting.

An OP criticizes corporal punishment. You offer an anecdotal data point. However, by making the anecdotal data point yourself and making it in the manner you did, you pretty much require anyone who might consider disagreeing to be saying something negatively about you personally - which is a nono - thereby discouraging posts made in disagreement.

:thinking

The fact that you claim it didn't harm you is evidence it did harm you, or at least didn't do any good.

They busted our ass in school.

I take it that society frowns upon that these days?

Let them try that with my kid. They better not like eating solid foods

No more busting child ass. Even the Catholic church appears to agree.

 You sure do assume alot. In point of fact I have no problem with people that think paddling is wrong. To each their own.

People who have experienced what is being talked about. Are you going to snicker and laugh at those in the #metoo movement for offering themselves up as examples of rape and assault happening also? If not then try not to be hypocritical about it and afford me the same consideration.

And it no doubt brought much satisfaction to the person doing the paddling. So it was a worthwhile exercise.

I never raised a hand to my son but I would have to anyone in school who beat him. Nobody needs to learn that lesson about authority and humiliation.

Wow...even when someone is talking about themselves you can make yourself out to be the victim. Pathetic.

Ah...so since corporal punishment has been on the decline for years and years, we should be seeing an improvement in discipline among children and a decrease in behavioral issues and things like depression and such, right? Oh wait...

Except those who think it's wrong don't just leave it at opinion. They try and codify that into law and make it the standard. That makes it not a simple matter of disagreement.

Corporal punishment has always been with the consent of the parents so spare yourself the outrage.

If someone in #metoo claimed rape didn't hurt them, yes; I would call out that stupid crap as well.

I don't, however, see the similarity in condoning child abuse and exposing rape.

You condone child abuse and you rationalize that based on "kids these days". That's sick.
