from www.cnn.com/health 07-27-07 Rueters; Pepsico Inc. is confessing their water is nothing more than tap water. They will change their lable to include "public water source". Coke is in the same corner with their "Dasani". This was discovered Coroporate Accountabilty International. In case you find this shocking, understand your tap water is healthier than this bottled stuff because your water has minerals where as bottled water is "dead".

Fact is, bottled water tastes better (as in having NO taste) than my tap water. My tap water smells bad and tastes bad. It also leaves stains on my sinks, tub, and toilet. It also leaves lime deposits. I don't want to drink that crap, so I'll stick to my bottled water thanks.

No lawsuits at all. They never claimed that their water was from the mountains or anything. I have no issue with it. The EBMUD water in my tap is better than a lot of bottled water. Installing a filter for tap water is certainly a lot cheaper and is probably just as good as bottled water.

I learned a long time ago that tap water is healthier than bottled water, because tap water not only has a lot of necessary minerals in it, but is also fluoridated, which is important for dental health, especially for those who lack dental insurance and aren't able to get to the dentist as often as they should.
Before the fluoridation of tap water, it was not uncommon for people to have a mouthful of visibly rotten teeth by their early twenties, and to be toothless by forty.
You never see anything like that anymore in America (unless the person in question is a meth fiend or something).

It's important that everyone drink tap water.

I always feel bad for people i see drinking bottled water, thinking they're doing themselves a favor.

I only drink Bling Water:

Bling H2o | More than a pretty taste

I buy bottled water just for the convenience of being able to carry it around with me, and refill it with tap water when necessary.

Unless I find out my bottled water isn't h2o I'm really not that concerned. I think most people know it's simply tap water with a little bit of filtering. How would it be any better if it was from a mountain glacier or a spring or whatever?

But if the bottled water is ACTUALLY tap water as the article suggests, then aren't we bottled water drinkers drinking tap water? So why the concern?

Besides, like I said... my tap water tastes terrible. I won't drink something that tastes like crap. Water isn't supposed to have a taste.

Me too, at home it's just regular ol' tap water and ice.
There are two schools of thought on refilling. I refill if there is no other option, otherwise I get a fresh bottle (recycle the old one of course)

I thought most people knew this too, that's why I was a little surprised by this article.

By the way there are FDA standard definitions of how bottled water products can be labeled such as, artesian, distilled, spring and mineral.

You need a water softener but I'm sure you have been told that. I would strongly urge you to get your water checked if it smells bad. That could be real serious.

My kids did a science project on plants and water. The experiment involved used aquarium water, tap water, and mountain mist spring water from a water cooler. Part of the experiment involved testing the different water sources. I was surprised to find out that our water cooler puts out water higher in nitrates than our tap. Apparently that's what happens when the water cooler is constantly licked by dogs. It gets dirty. But our tap water tastes like bleach so we stick with the water cooler anyway. Just thought it was interesting to find that our tap is cleaner than our spring water when it comes from the water cooler. If you test the spring water straight from the bottle than it does have a similar nitrate reading to the tap and now we bleach out our water cooler much more regularly than we were donig before to help keep it cleaner. Knowing how easily water coolers dirty up the water that comes out of them though has made me very weary of water coolers in offices and public places. They're probably rarely cleaned. My tap water tests well but sadly tastes like the YMCA's pool.

The quality of tap water various from place to place. Some areas have stronger mineral content based on local sources that give it a stronger taste.

1069 is correct about Flouride, however. Governments put small amounts of flouride in the drinking supply because it is good for teeth; and is a big reason kids today get less cavities than 40 years ago. In fact, I read sometime back that the incidents of cavities in kids was increasing, attributed to the fact their parents were giving them non-flourided bottled water.

I drink Bottled Water to avoid the Fluoried. If I want to protecgt my teeth with Fluoride, I buy Fluoride toothpaste, so I don't ruin my mind, kidneys and liver.

Floridation causes Liver and Kidney problems as I recall.

Science Watch #30: Kidney & Liver Damage found in Fluoride-Exposed Children

Flouride does not hurt little kids health, very often, and helps prevent cavaties.

Makes the kids more compliant, as I remember.

Fluoride Standards and Predicting Wildlife Effects

"The percentage of children with IQ scores less than 70 increased from 0 in the control group to 4% in the high fluoride group. The percentage of children with IQ scores greater than 109 was 41% in the control group and decreased to 30% in the high fluoride group. Overall, children in the high fluoride group had a four-point reduction in IQ score as compared to the control children. Measured fluoride in the urine was almost five times higher in the high fluoride exposed children than in the controls (5.1 mg/L versus 1.5 mg/L in controls). All of these associations were statistically significant. "

High fluoride in drinking water is associated with poor performance on intelligence tests.

The US CDC has been a big proponent of flouride in Municipal Water Supplies. A scientist in the 50's, or so, got a big award or some kind, and the US CDC pushed throught the Fluoride Program, and still pushes fluoride to thei day, and anyone who brings up the adverse effects of Fluoride is given the collective cold shoulder.

Fouride was discovered by a scientes visiting a samll island nation that had lowered tooth decay. The scienteist fournd Fluoride in their drinkin gwater. He tested Fluuoride by addin Flouride to drinking water in a town, and found that tooth decay went down. So the scientis was condered a Hero at that time, and no one wnts to pop his bibble that he was actually an idiot, and did not test for what was worse than tooth decay.

Germany, under Hitler, used Flouride to keep the masses in line.

Fluoride - Poisonous Mind Control

The US is probably interested in controlling the minds of anyone who cannot afford bottled water.

Those damned French! :rofl Bottled water is their little trick on the stupid Americans and the rest of the world. They decided to take tap water, bottle it, give it fancy French names like Evian and Perrier...then sell it to the Americans. After all, the Americans will buy anything.

BTW...I don't appreciate my first post being deleted.

The water out here in Nevada is so full of minerals it is better to drink bottled water.Hot water heaters out here don't last very long because of the minerals. Some minerals are good but too many are not.

How is the Arsinic level from mining run-offs?

Tap water in Cache Valley, UT is great.

Warning....
lots of people who use "filtered" water from their ice/water dispenser on the fridge are taking a huge risk. Very few people change the filters in those things, and over time they get full of nasty slimy gunk....

Did anyone else read this whole thread and have a Dr. Strangelove moment or was it just me?

"Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream."

Forget the water! potable water is potable water. What about the all those bloody plastic bottles and the comparatively huge cost of transporting by road something that should come through pipes.

BTW, the consumable food/drink that causes the most gastro is [drum roll] BOTTLED WATER. It is because people often accidentally put a little saliva and therefore bacteria back into the bottle when they swig it. Then if it sits there for a long weekend in your bag it does the exponential thing and voila, you are sick.
