Book burning

I have no idea what this discussion is about, but it's rarely a good idea to burn books.

While the line between state and party is often blurred in totalitarian regimes like Nazi Germany, I do not believe that government laws or policies dictated that books be burned. The motivation came from the mob and it was urged on by the Nazi party. Today it is urged by our president. I would like to hear him comment on this. I think we all know that he wouldn't object.

Which is why I began my post with "Not exactly". And as to your statement on government "policies", that is also a "not exactly" because, as I said, Nazi officials oversaw the whole operation from the very beginning and to say that was not policy would fly in the face of their very nature. Nothing went down to any such degree as did the student/mob/glasnost without Nazi/government involvement/policy all up and down and all over the place. And as to "mob", as I said, they were highly organized. It was all well-planned and coordinated to occur on a specific start date. That defies the term "mob" motivation, generic mob or mob 'au natural'.
