I think it was probably because he had heard that there was to be an announcement that Israel was building more houses in a Palestinian, not settler area in East Jerusalem, or maybe that had even been announced by then.
Two snubs in such a short time is not something many US Presidents would put up with.
Actually I agree with Dan, this seems more like a response to what happened when Biden was over in Israel. It doesn't excuse it though.
Oh I am sure that played a role too, but I feel it was more payback for how Vice President Biden's trip went. I wish President Obama would have taken higher road and not played this stupid little game.
How long do you think it is reasonable to jump and down about that bad act. Does this go on forever?

Then he would have heard wrong. Everything I have heard from credible sources is that no one actually lived in this area where the new building was approved and that the land was legally purchased more than twenty years ago.
According to the Shas minister, continued construction in Jerusalem and the settlement blocs that will remain in Israel's possession in a peace deal will be made possible only in the framework of a US-backed permanent agreement.
Ok, I live in the UK. That is what our news said. It is obvious that a lot of people here have no interest in peace, but Obama is trying for that and the actions which Israel is taking given that the Palestinians want East Jerusalem for their capital is as Justbubba said, eating the pizza which you are supposed to be discussing dividing.
Here is what Israel said on it in August 09
Israel agrees to freeze settlement construction as gesture to US - Israel News, Ynetnews
Clearly Israel has changed it's mind and just in time for visits from/with the Vice President and President.
I was listening to BBC news on the radio yesterday while driving to work, and they talked about it at length.
Israel does not consider East Jerusalem "Occupied Territory" and stated at the time that neither East Jerusalem nor Golan Heights were subject to the moratorium on new settlement construction.
So what about the West Bank? That's where the freeze was 'supposed' to be... right?

I guess not...
(and if it takes you awhile, Beitar Illit is in the West Bank)
I find it funny how a Conservative from Texas wants to defend socialists while at the same time our money situation isnt exactly healthy.
In any case however Then maybe the Polish should buy the system from us. Its not the job of the American people to defend the scum filled socialist hell hole that is Europe.
Hard to make a judgement considering the utter lack of details in the article.
But who will defend us when Al-Qaeda sends in its navy and airforce?

Thank you. Our nation has sacrificed more persons to protect others nations. Euro hates us, Israel uses us. We have our own crap to fix at home.
Great Brittan is the only nation I think we should help.

The freezing means that no new constructions would be approved.I don't care when it "received" its permit. If your country tells me they are going to agree to a 10 month settlement freeze in the West Bank, I expect them to abide by it... at least for longer than 3 months.
I'm disappointed to hear this.I'm glad the Palestinians have boycotted the talks. Why should they have to negotiate when the borders of their future state are getting smaller and smaller?
A settlement freeze means no construction. Or does the word 'freeze' only apply to certain items? Kind of like how the word militant applies to policemen and legislators to Israel. The freezing means that no new constructions would be approved.
This construction has received its approval long ago, during Olmert's time.
Peace is always a superior cause. Aggression, like building in occupied territory, is not a path to peace. Neither is blockading an entire strip of land because a certain political party wins an election.I'm disappointed to hear this.
Peace in my eyes is a superior cause, and I agree with my country stance to negotiate even when my country's civilians are being bombed by Palestinian rockets.
It was more than understandable from Netanyahu's declaration that settlements that are ongoing will be finished, and no new buildings will be approved.A settlement freeze means no construction. Or because a certain political party marks its stance to kill innocent human beings based on their nationalities, showing their kids their favorite shows on TV like how to kill a Jew or what it means to be a martyr.Peace is always a superior cause. Despite the construction freeze, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has given approval for the construction of 112 apartments in Beitar Illit.
You've obviously missed a big passage here:New Housing Approved in Beitar Illit - Politics & Gov't - Israel News - Israel National News
The approval for this construction didn't even happen during Olmert's term. The approval happened less than a week before that article was posted.
The construction in Beitar Illit received a permit long ago, under the Olmert government, but foundations have not been laid, due to “infrastructure problems and safety issues.” For this reason, Barak granted the project an exemption from the freeze.
