Bernie Sanders announces his presidential run - CNNPolitics.com

I haven't heard much about his announcement on the Forum for some reason. Does anyone care ?

I think it's interesting that a avowed Socialist has to come the conclusion that this is the best time to run. His 12 point economic plan is filled with typical left wing solutions that of-course won't work

1) Invest in our crumbling infrastructure with a major program to create jobs by rebuilding roads, bridges, water systems, waste water plants, airports, railroads and schools.

I'm sure our infrastructure could use some work but as a way to grow the economy it's a ridiculous plan based on the Progressive notion that a Country can borrow and spend its way into prosperity.

2) Transform energy systems away from fossil fuels to create jobs while beginning to reverse global warming and make the planet habitable for future generations.

More lunacy with expected economic consequences...
Germany?s ?green energy revolution? costing billions ? RT Business

Germany’s Green Elephant | Foreign Policy

3) Develop new economic models to support workers in the United States instead of giving tax breaks to corporations which ship jobs to low-wage countries overseas.

Isolationism and laws and policies that " protected " Venezuela's workers has led them to be ranked as the least productive Country on the Continent.

4) Make it easier for workers to join unions and bargain for higher wages and benefits.

Is it that hard for workers to join Unions ? Or are Unions losing ground as States change over to right to work ?

5) Raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour so no one who works 40 hours a week will live in poverty.

Abject nonsense and naivete from a avowed Socialist ? Who would have thought ? Government mandating higher cost on Businesses and corporations through foolish short sighted laws like this always produce fantastic results...

6) Provide equal pay for women workers who now make 78 percent of what male counterparts make.

:doh

7) Reform trade policies that have shuttered more than 60,000 factories and cost more than 4.9 million decent-paying manufacturing jobs.

More protectionism. It would of-course limit the choices of consumers and would lead to retaliation. Bernie lives in the past apparently and the benefits of open markets elude him.

8) Make college affordable and provide affordable child care to restore America’s competitive edge compared to other nations.

The Governments going to dictate and define what's " affordable " again ? Lol !

9) Break up big banks. The six largest banks now have assets equivalent to 61 percent of our gross domestic product, over $9.8 trillion. They underwrite more than half the mortgages in the country and issue more than two-thirds of all credit cards.

Another Leftist who's pushing the evil Banks narrative while ignoring the unprecedented level of corruption fraud and greed that came out of two Democrat run and protected GSEs.

10) Join the rest of the industrialized world with a Medicare-for-all health care system that provides better care at less cost.

Nationalize the Health Care industry ? The same Government that essentially pulled the largest bait and switch scam in WORLD History on the American people by telling us that the ACA would be affordable and that we would save money and be able to keep our Insurance policies and Dr's now wants full control of our Health Industry ? The same Government that loses E-mails, wipes hard drives and then finds them again, that lets top Presidential cabinet members keep State Department E-mails on a private server, that has flooded the Nation with Illegal aliens now wants to mismanage something else ?

11) Expand Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and nutrition programs.

And pay for this HOW ?? Oh that's right, your massive Stimulus program to " increase aggregate demand " and your plan to raise taxes the " rich " and corporations means we'll have a robust economy.

12) Reform the tax code based on wage earners’ ability to pay and eliminate loopholes that let profitable corporations stash profits overseas and pay no U.S. federal income taxes.

:doh

That's right Bernie ! Go after those " eeebil " Rich folks and punish the Corporations. How dare they do whatever they want with their own property. I'm sure there will be no ill effects at all.

count me in. i don't agree with him one hundred percent, but he's one of the very few politicians that i believe actually gives a **** about the average American worker.

If he gave a **** about anyone he would put down the pom-poms and spend more understanding the mess that has developed in Social Security under his watch. He says repeatedly Social Security hasn't added a penny to the deficit. By law, PL 98-21, transfers 10s of billions from the general fund to Social Security every year. I would ask whether he is lying or stupid. The fact is that he is neither. He is a politician more interested in the impact of a sound bite than its accuracy. He is completely indifferent to the impact that a crisis in Social Security has on anyone, but himself. He knows that as the crisis unfolds some of it is going to come back to him personally. His attitude is forget how big the crisis is as long as it doesn't occur on my watch.

Sorry he is worthless.

ok. vote for the candidate that you like best.

Rarely do I agree with Bernie Sanders on economic issues, but some of those ideas are pretty good. I don't agree with all, but some.

He reminds me of Ron Paul oddly enough in the sense that he isn't bought and paid for and is honest with the American people.

AND I have ZERO faith in most politicians to change the Bush/Obama foreign policy/attack on our civil liberties, but I think he would do it.

That being said, Republicans/Democrats aren't interested in candidates that refuse to suck up to giant corporations so I don't think he will get the nomination.

He's got my vote. The only one talking about issues that affect the everyday Americans. All the rest are sell outs to the corporate state.

Where is the upper limit to stimulus spending? If all it takes to stimulate an economy into wealth is a little deficit spending, why don't we simply hang a few more zeroes on the next package? Instead of spending a trillion dollars, why don't we just cut right to the chase and spend a quindecagillion dollars?

Feds have been "borrowing" from the SS program for years. It's about time they started paying some of it back.

Anyway, Sanders and Cruz have equal chances of being the next POTUS, which is to say, none, but it would really be interesting to see a debate between the two of them.

They'd have to curb their existing spending, cut spending, or raise taxes to do so.

During the financial crisis of 08, Joseph Stiglitz wanted a 4T stimulus package to keep the economy going; politicians didn't have the stomach or political capital to make it happen though.

There is an optimum calculus of stimulus, where those bounds are we don't truly know because we've only had the balls to do it barely half ass, maybe even quarter-ass.

I like Bernie. He doesn't stand a chance at getting the nomination but it will be good to have him in the primaries calling the others on their corporatist crap, especially since it doesn't look like Warren will be there to do it.

It would have been a 4 Trillion dollar waste instead of a 800 Billion dollar waste.

Unbelievable. Fiscal stimulus to increase " aggregate demand " doesn't work.

Why we have to continuously repeat these failed progressive economic " solutions " is a testament to the power of ideological thinking over objective and effective solutions.

If $1T is good, and $4t is better... why not $999T?

A lot of top economists disagree, but I'm sure you know better.

Color me surprised.

Bernie appeals to the people who spit out leftist propaganda and ignore reality and History.

His " solutions " have been tried already and have failed miserably. His election would crater whats left of this Country's economy.

It's a mathematical formula in which there is an estimation of what would be optimal.

If your tires have 25lbs of air and filling them up to 35lbs would increase gas mileage, why not fill them with 100lbs?

I consider him the most appealing candidate in the race thus far, with the unfortunate caveat that he's entirely unelectable for all the reasons that make him the most appealing.

Alright Republicans. Here is your chance to call a Democratic Primary Candidate a "socialist". And no, this time its actually true...

Where is the point in the economy where it pops? Should we go ahead and pop it just so we know where the limit is?

Typically when a poster that supports failed Progressive economic solutions like " Stimulus " reference "Top Economist " its usually code word for some progressive ideologue like Paul Krugman.

A 4 Trillion dollar Stimulus would have been disastrous. Thats 4 Trillion dollars of debt that would have been wasted, passed out to " friends of Democrats ", supporters, bundlers so they could " invest " it in something idiotic like building Solar panels.

It would have been passed out to States with strong public sector Unions who are currently losing residents to States like Texas because their economy is still in ruins.

It would have been dumped into general funds for " infrastructure improvements " never to be seen again with little to no economic improvement to speak of.

The Obama administration and the Democrats would have been essentially venture capitalist, trying to " invest " in a economy they don't understand.

Stimulus would have simply papered over the underlying issues that are STILL contributing to our stagnating economy.

Obama's had 7 years of record low interest rates with 8 Trillion in spending and unprecedented Monetary Stimulus and he STILL can't pull this economy out of the toilet.

GDP is barely averaging 2 percent.

He has no idea what he's doing and " Top Economist " who say Stimulus works have no idea what they're taking about.

I can support these three.Outsourcing should be punished with tariffs and too big to fail should be too big to exist.

More right wing hate & rhetoric. I'm sure there is not much Color about you LOL

I'm pretty sure their calculation would attempt to find the optimum result, not "popping" the economy as a trial balloon.

Yes Fenton, it's obvious these guys are idiots because their ideas are different than yours.
