LANCASTER, Calif. — In the latest twist to this unpredictable 2016 presidential race, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders independently agreed Wednesday night to debate each other.
On ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Trump was asked if he would consider holding a debate with Sanders. Trump agreed to the idea.
"If he paid a sum toward charity I would love to do that," said the business mogul, noting that a Sanders vs. Trump debate "would have such high ratings."
Sanders quickly responded with a tweet reading, "Game On. I look forward to debating Donald Trump in California before the June 7th primary."

The Dems are just shooting themselves in the foot and paving the way for a Trump upset. The party leadership needs to shut down Bernie- he's got no chance and all he's doing is handing the election to Trump by playing in his hands.
Bernie's getting his message out which is what he wants.

I think you are right. While I would love to see it happen, I doubt it will. I suspect it will be Trump that backs out since he will have nothing whatsoever to gain by doing it. But you never know. The guy is unpredictable as hell.I just don't see this debate actually occurring. It reads to me of news media cycle jumping on a Trump quote and Bernie response.
They independently agreed meaning that neither side has actually reached an agreement with the other. And while Trump put the caveat on the debate that he felt he should be compensated (in the form of charity donations), the details are still so vague as to be non-existent. Plus, the initial offer was made on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
And, of course, there is the influence of Hillary Clinton who would not want to just sit on the sidelines.

Sabotaging your own party is a pretty stupid way to go about it. The only people who like Bernie are socialists and millenials because they want free stuff.
This is low risk high reward type of maneuver by the Maverick Trump.
By debating Sanders he can embolden a candidate that has zero percent chance of winning the Democratic nomination and further cause deadlock for the DNC .
This debate can allow Trump to center himself with the moderates while Hillary continues get branded this corporate tool for Wall Street.

Lol Bernie's not a DemoNazi.
Honestly, I do agree that Bernie should drop out now, but further stoking and fanning the flames of division and infuriating Bernie's supporters by shutting them and their candidate out of the Party completely is not only... well... undemocratic... it practically guarantees a Trump victory (considering the fact that Independents make up 42% of the electorate of our country and they will unquestionably go to Trump if not Bernie).
Likewise, of course, Bernie supporters need to tone it down with the anti-Hillary rhetoric at this juncture.
But of course that won't happen if people like you keep pissing them off.
But you would rather see the Democratic Party divided rather than united.
So, go ahead and enjoy your Ethno-Nationalist Authoritarian Trump Administration, Mr. "Libertarian"...

I actually think this is a brilliant move on Trump's part. This is how I see the possible outcomes:
Trump Wins: It helps him in the general election and helps him with the disenfranchised Bernie supporters.
Trump Loses: Anything that makes Sanders look like a good candidate will ultimately hurt the Democrats as it drives another wedge between establishment democrats and their fanatical socialist wing.
Either Case: It makes Hillary look weak.
