The mayor of Riga, where the Ice Hockey World Cup is currently being held, has replaced the flag of Belarus with the flag of the opposition.
By the way, the flag of the opposition, white-red-white, was used by traitors of the Belarusian people during the nazi occupation during the war, where a quarter of the population was killed by the nazis.
It would be interesting to see the reaction of the United States, if somewhere in the world, the flag of the United States was replaced by the flag of the Confederate Southern States...

That flag was also used by the Belarus Democratic Republic in 1918, as well as being the official flag of Belarus 1991-1995.

Your allegory doesn't really work since it was used by Belarus once already since WW2, meaning it never got that symbolism, and most Belarussians don't associate it with Nazism, unlike the Confederate flag that most people associate with slavery.

And btw the current Russian and Ukrainian flags were also used by respective Nazi sympathizers during WW2.

This is why I would not have flown over Belarus. Roman should have flown to Warsaw, in Poland, and then hopped over to Vilnius. Anything to avoid Belarus airspace.

The "bomb scare" came from the Minsk control tower, not from the Ryan Air pilots.

3 Belarussian KGB agents boarded the Ryan Air flight in Athens, and then deplaned in Minsk.

This was a planned operation .... a planned kidnapping using the Belarussian Air Force as armed leverage.

If you do the math, the airport at Vilnius was closer than than Minsk airport. But landing in Vilnius would have ruined the kidnapping plan of Lukashenka.
