Before we go nuts over some abusive gun control law, lets do this.

Trot out your gun control law and lets try it out in a large urban city like Chicago to see if it really works.

Good idea dont you think?

So, who's gonna gather up the 857 million civilian firearms already out there? That equals 120.5 guns per 100 persons in the US as of 2017...I'm sure it's even more now...what good does it do to close the barn door after all the cows get out?

But why do some ignorant abusive gun control law all over the country if it wont work in Chicago or maybe Baltimore where it is really needed.

Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

Top 5 states with least gun deaths per population are blue states, highest is red states. Seems those states, along with country states (US has highest amount of guns, highest amount fo gun related deaths) that doesn't bode well for your bogus narrative.

And its not going to be that effective when they can jsut go a few miles to neighboring states and buy a gun no questions asked

Dumb idea. Reminds me of this- having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.
Weapons aren't the problem. Not a real big part of it anyway. Neither is mental illness. The problem is the culture of violence that permeates American culture and it's gonna take more than legislation to solve it. More than a few years, too.

If they enforced new laws tomorrow with strict limitations, what will they do with the guns already out there...that's what I wanna know...the damage is done...

In a way that is already in place. Compare gun deaths in states with tighter gun laws with states with more permissive gun laws.

I just keep my flag flying upside down at half staff, to comport with society's level of concern.

Most of the guns in Chicago come from out-of-state sources (mostly Indiana).

The only ones talking about gathering up hundreds of millions of firearms are the conservative conspiracy nuts.

What good will any of it do at this point? This is part of the fabric of this society now. Who among us is going to alter anything we're doing personally?

Recently, I've seen it reported in a couple of places that 85-90% of gun murders are gang/criminal violence. Seems that would suggest laws and enforce concentrated on the gangs would be more effective that laws and enforcement focused on the guns. And, yes, there is an overlap.

It seems almost axiomatic that the guns used in these incidents like El Paso or Dayton, or Gilroy, et al, were obtained legally; which suggests cries for "universal background checks" won't yield a huge benefit.

Red Flag Laws sound promising, but won't completely solve the problem.

"Yeah, but <fill in your favorite> worked in other countries" overlook that America is a huge diverse society with problems like gangs, drug abuse, and organized hate.

It's a complex, and vexing problem; one which I'm not convinced has a total solution.

That is like someone saying to Edward Jenner, "We already have smallpox so what is the point of coming up with a vaccine?"

We are the only developed nation with this epidemic of mass shootings. Every other developed nation has strict firearm laws. Obviously, advocating a round up of all the firearms is unrealistic and political suicide, so we need to take less dramatic steps for gun control. Someone said we can start with Chicago. Well, other states started their own gun ownership restrictions long ago and those various laws appear to work. As a result, the states with the strictest laws have the fewest incidents of gun violence and the states with the loosest laws have the most. Personally, I think restrictions/regulations on gun manufacturers can be a start along with wait periods and mandatory classes. I mean, we're already required by law to take classes to drive a car...

How about a stop and search law like they had in New York.

That's a good idea - which means the left will scream and shout over it.

What these liberals don't get is that conservatives have a 2 to 1 ratio of gun ownership over liberals socialists. Let them try to confiscate guns. Which brings up another point. The 2nd amendment was put in place for the citizens to be able to defend themselves from an abusive government. Not so they could go hunting. The states have the National Guard for their militia against an abusive Federal Government. The reason why citizens have the right to bear arms is in case State militia become abusive of our rights for us to be able to defend ourselves. The National Guard has semi and fully automatic weapons. If they take semi and potentially fully automatic guns away from the citizens, then how would we be able to defend ourselves when they come for our guns or try to take our property away from us? Think about it. Look what the Democrats are proposing in Congress and in many states. Communism! Fascism! Republicans can't fold now.

If the "gun control" law that folks have in mind is a nationwide ban of any "scary" gun (or magazine that can hold over 6 rounds) then that does not work on a state/local level. It also requires a nationwide police state to round the up many, many millions of "scary" guns (and magazines) already in circulation.

Not a good idea at all, people have these things called... cars... and in these cars someone can travel away from where they live and obtain what they want from somewhere else that did not have "abusive gun control laws."

The same idiots who screamed every day for all 8 years of Obama's Presidency that the libruls were coming to take the gun away.
