If the "gun control" law that folks have in mind is a nationwide ban of any "scary" gun (or magazine that can hold over 6 rounds) then that does not work on a state/local level. It also requires a nationwide police state to round the up many, many millions of "scary" guns (and magazines) already in circulation.

How would a ban on ammunition affect these guns?

What these liberals don't get is that conservatives have a 2 to 1 ratio of gun ownership over liberals socialists. Let them try to confiscate guns. Which brings up another point. The 2nd amendment was put in place for the citizens to be able to defend themselves from an abusive government. Not so they could go hunting. The states have the National Guard for their militia against an abusive Federal Government. The reason why citizens have the right to bear arms is in case State militia become abusive of our rights for us to be able to defend ourselves. The National Guard has semi and fully automatic weapons. If they take semi and potentially fully automatic guns away from the citizens, then how would we be able to defend ourselves when they come for our guns or try to take our property away from us? Think about it. Look what the Democrats are proposing in Congress and in many states. Communism! Fascism! Republicans can't fold now.

Well IF you’re going to brand it as ignorant and abusive why try it anywhere? Your idea is half baked. Why not try an intelligent and aggressive law that works for OUR whole Country? And apply it equally across the land?

I would say mandatory buyback program, make it a felony to fail to turn in. Ban sale of firearms and ammunition. Attrition will whittle down remaining stockpile of unregistered/stolen firearms.

Yeah, sorry. It's not going to be a glorious gun owner uprising. They're better equipped and better organized and just about everyone is going to be on their side, not yours. Cops show up, and you refuse to comply, either you end up dead or the cop ends up dead. How many friends do you think cop killers keep?

Clearly laws don't work, so what does it matter if we build a wall and ban immigration without permission?

100% of murders are committed despite laws against it. So legalize murder, right?
