Beautiful Songs that can bring a touch of sadness...

Both of these songs have this eerie sense of loss and regret. Haunting to me, there are some days one of these songs came on the radio and I had to switch stations before I lost it.

I'm not in love

Somebody that I used to know

@Demon

I don't know if either of you play or perform?

But given the dearth of covers of this tune, here's an unlikely surprising well-executed bare-bones one, that displays the basic framework of the tune pretty well.

They have a great version there, nice, like that.

Glad you liked it. Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised.

They're using auto-tune, and probably a chorus effect on the background vocals. , But they executed it well.

I'd like to know the backstory. Who they are? I give the old guy credit for keeping chugging! The women looks too young by reference, to be a girlfriend or wife I think. So maybe a daughter or musician collaborator?

BTW - There's several videos with 10cc documenting exactly how they created & produced the original. There was an amazing amount of choral work!

I know we can always count on you for some quality Country contributions.

My Country contribution is popular, crossover, and commercial, and isn't from the roots era. But it always tugged at my heart!

Here's Allan Jackson performing it at George Jones' funeral at the Grand Ole Opry, making it especially poignant on multiple levels:

(If I get in the mood maybe I'll post some Bill Monroe or Del McCoury. I love Bluegrass!)

This song, from the movie musical GIGI, poignantly reveals that time can cause our memories of events to become clouded, and yet they are no less dear to those trying so hard to remember. I REMEMBER IT WELL is funny and yet at the very same time has a real touch of pathos about it. I saw this on the television. I loved a program called THE EARLY SHOW. It came on at four and would show older movies. And sometimes my parents would allow me to have a TV dinner on the TV tray and watch a special movie on the TV at dinnertime... Hermione Gingold and Maurice Chevalier were among my favorite character actors. They had such a stage presence. And yes, very much like even the fondest of memories, they to have gone....

That reminded me of this song:

And then there is CAROUSEL. One of the most touching and beautiful songs from that show is YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE:

It was even a hit in the rock era with Gerry & the Pacemakers:

Yeah, I liked it, he's also using a few studio tricks and it sounds great. The chord progression is flowing in that song, A major to A minor, and then the whole verse refuses the tonic, E, until the last line. Paul McCarthy level songwriting. Love the song and this version!
