BBC News - US consulate in Benghazi 'did not have enough security'US consulate in Benghazi 'did not have enough security'
By Frank Gardner
BBC security correspondent
The US consulate in Benghazi, where the US ambassador to Libya died in an attack on Tuesday, was not given the standard security contract offered to many American diplomatic missions in the Middle East, private military contractors have told the BBC.
The consulate's walls were breached in just 15 minutes, guards were outgunned and overwhelmed and four US personnel were killed, including the Ambassador, J Christopher Stevens.
US embassies and consulates in areas of the world where they are deemed liable to attack are usually offered a formal security contract called a Worldwide Protective Services Agreement, known in the industry as a 'Wips.

But sources have told the BBC that on the advice of a US diplomatic regional security officer, the mission in Benghazi was not given the full contract despite lobbying by private contractors.
Instead, the US consulate was guarded externally by a force of local Libyan militia, many of whom reportedly put down their weapons and fled once the mission came under concerted attack.
The more we learn about the attacks earlier this week, the more nieve and incompetant the Obama Administration is looking.

Actually the BBC is just pointing out the obvious, this is no revelation to anyone because there are multiple sources. But even at that I wouldnt be surprised if they left out some of the more incriminating stuff to go easy on there fellow idealogueIt's mildly interesting to note the alacrity with which the ideologues abandon their disdain of the BBC as an accurate relay of news when it appears to support their partisan obsessions.

This shouldn't be a surprise. NOWHERE in the United States has appropriate levels of security. Few if any foreign consulates, embassies, and military bases have appropriate levels of security from what I have read over the years.
However it might have been a good idea to let the Marines defend themselves by allowing them to have bullets in their guns.
It seems BHO is concerned that some Muslims might get hurt.

But...but...but...it ain't Obama's fault! Whatta-you think he is? The prez? Commaner in chief?
It's certainly a tragedy, and they certainly needed better security, but it makes me a little sick to see it used for petty politics.

Spare us the feigned outrage will you?
1) The story about the Marines have been shown to be false.
2) That story was about Egypt not Libya.
Carry on.

It seems the Marines in Egypt were not allowed to have bullets in their guns and there were no Marines guarding the Embassy in Benghazi.
