Baltimore HS student fails all but 3 classes over 4 years, ranks near top half of class
France expressed frustration with the school, asking why her son would have to complete three more years of high school after "the school failed him."

France's son failed 22 classes and was late or absent 272 days over his first three years of high school. Only one teacher requested a parent-teacher conference, but France said that didn't happen. Despite this, her son still ranked 62nd in his class out of 120 total students.

Welcome to the education policy of the Democratic Party.

When they're done being tardy, absent, and failing 22 classes, they want free college too.

If I was a liberal parent and that was my child I would be thrilled.I wouldn't want my child to be smarter than Biden.

it's too bad that he doesn't have 400 million dollars. that could buy a lot of "tutoring."

Oh man. Government Monopoly sure is doing a great job with education.

Don't tell anyone, but it isn't about political lean.

Actually, it's about the student body.

In my city's public system, I can show you a school ranked within the top 10 public high schools nationally, along with several more in the top 100. However, I can also show you a few others probably no better than the one in the OP.

Same city. Same school system. Same union. Same funding. The difference? Student body!

Perhaps not if they attend that school.

Agreed.

It's about the student body.

I'm going to copy & paste my earlier reply to LoveBug, here:

With all of the millions who voted for Trump, there's no doubt that our elementary education system needs a complete overhaul, because those voters by and large aren't going to college.

Twelfth grade is their last shot at developing necessary critical thinking skills, because then Fox News takes over their schooling, and as we have seen from experience, that jackhammer leaves nothing useful behind.

I've seen quite a few srptudents who rarely show up for school. They do little work. They live very troubled lives. But they don't live in depressed, crime-ridden communities like the many students who attend this school. Thats in the bpneighborhood Freddie Gray lived in. He suffered brain damage from lead paint poisoning.

As much as one would like to blame schools for the problem, it goes far beyond their power. And then there are more kids coming in.

We aren't really serious about public education anymore. And that's very sad. Of course, we don't really care about the problems of kids who live in these neighborhoods, except to use them to bash Democrats.

What I don't get is that they wait for him to get through all four years, then start him over in 9th grade??! That makes zero sense unless you're only trying to keep kids on the books to get your funding.

Social promotion and grade inflation and pumping up self-esteem aren't solutions and substitutes for education. Using grade schools as day care centers isn't either. While parents are the primary problem schools are top heavy with administrators who should be held responsible; if they have time for rubbish like Drag Queen Story Times and and pandering to sicko deviants trying to convince five year olds they need a sex change and hormone shots, they have time to revamp their programs and run a real school.

You'd have to build and staff more schools to hold these kids back if you want to fail them all. And I have no problem with that, but if nothing is done to improve their depressed crime-ridden communities, they'll probably just drop out.

So let them. Why waste time and money on them?

They and the consequences of their actions will cost more money and misery in the criminal justice system.

Workhouses maybe?

I was with you on subject student who was late or absent 272 days in three years....even maybe the Party in charge, but why tack on the 'free college' bit?

If you want to have a genuine conversation about this awful situation, keep it to the facts; 'free college' wasn't mentioned anywhere in the article.

A few posters have even added some real comments.
I ask where the parents were when that was happening.

So it might be worth really discussing that sadly....sad....state of public education, particularly in Baltimore. They have a notoriously awful school system. And it's not because of money. [link to TheHill]
According to information uncovered by the Project Baltimore Investigation by the local Fox News affiliate WBFF, Baltimore spends roughly $1.4 billion annually on education, or roughly $16,000 per student. Baltimore’s spending on education is the fourth highest of any municipality in the country. Despite this massive commitment of resources, Baltimore schools have some of the lowest educational proficiency levels in the country.

Perplexing though, though, how the schools in nice neighborhoods are fine.
