Pssst....those votes did not belong to the Republicans alone. The Deomcrats did not oppose it, particularly things like the Patriot Act and such. They're all a bunch of cowards willing to sacrafice our lives and money for their political gains.

I know that, but the republicans supported it too.. and it was Bush's administration.. both parties make mostly bad decisions

If the Liberals are so concerned with it then they should have taken the time to reverse and nullify it's measures.
By choosing not to do anything - they decided that it's legitimate, acceptable and perfectly fine as is.

They disapproved of DADT - and repealed it  They disapproved of our healthcare-system and changed it . . . what stopped them from tackling the Patriot Act was the fact that they still supported it - if not in whole then in part - and considered it legitimate.

*so - flush goes that argument*

Ikari, namecalling is another indication of a loss. When your opponent has to stoop to that level you may hold your head up high in victory.

Notice I haven't attacked any particular political party other than one time saying that conservatives love to chant about the constitution and are the first to break it, but that wasn't directed at anyone here because nobody here that I know of in this thread even has their political lean as conservative.

Correction, both parties make bad decisions for the People at large. But they make very good decisions for the aristocracy they protect.

Oh, I would have had no problem even if it had been a mosque, as opposed to an Islamic community center.

Ok, so you'd rather be killed than raped? Do you even realize what you're saying? Something that ends a life isn't as bad as something that doesn't. It's that exact mindset that sets a precedent for stupid laws to be passed.

What do you expect? Our society is overly sensitive to matters of sex, even more so than violence.

But this thread isn't about any particular political party because I don't know one that supports a child being molested.

But lets get this straight now, you can't "support" or be "against" pedophilia. It's simply a mindset. And no, you can't "cure" pedophilia, like you can't "cure" being gay. Pedophilia also isn't a crime. But just like straight guys don't all rape women, pedophiles don't all molest children. Sex offender therapy isn't about "curing" a pedophile, if they even are one. It's about learning to control your urges. And how to not put yourself in the same position to reoffend. And yes, studies have been conducted that show a lower reoffense rate for offenders who obtain treatment (note: i said reoffense rate, not "cure" rate) than offenders who do not seek treatment. So it works, not for everyone, but it works for some. Even if a few people benefit, it's great. A reduction in crime is always good for society as a whole.

I own a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook and totally support freedom of speech. But.. This rubs me wrong way and am kinda glad this dude was arrested.

Sure you are not telling folks how to rape babies and small children that cannot even consent but are trying to show folks how to do it as not to get locked up? Umm.. OK. I gotz a problem with that

Oh ok, so because you think it was "weird" he should be arrested? Our laws are not based on "weird", Kali. I got a problem with a lot of stuff, but that doesn't mean people should be arrested based on non-existent laws. It can rub you any way it wants but that doesn't make it illegal.

I've seen some really weird and creepy people walking around downtown, and could easily say they rubbed me the wrong way. Should they be arrested to? This is starting to sound like a police state, where you are arrested for your beliefs and beliefs alone.

Lol... Okay, let's see how to say this... It's not about sex. It is never about sex. The thoughts surrounding these things are not about the sex, although the images are burned in to the brain for most. Childhood sexual abuse is about power and control. It destroys trust in adults. It is about exploitation, submission by force. It is about TERROR.

This is not about feelings. I could give a f*ck about feelings as an adult. It is about stealing childhood and creating addicts, alcoholics, ADHD adults, criminals, mental illness and all manner of true evil. It is about broken homes and continuing the cycle of violence. It is many things, but it is NOT feelings.

It is about creating dysfunctional people that make messes their entire lives. It is a societal problem and attitudes like, "Oh it's okay to f*ck a child, they're just sensitive to sex," is sicker than the rapist, and perhaps, more damaging. It makes you the enabler and gives a nod and a wink to the perpetrator. "It's just sex. Fr. Fancypants, diddle away. Builds character."

WTF?

Damn, a book does all that? And here I was all along believing that only an actual person could do those things. A person acting on their own accord. Man, that must be one amazing book. All the books I have just sit on the shelf collecting dust until I read them, then they begin collecting dust again. I've never had a cook book cook for me, but that would be cool. A book about child molesting (that you never read, mind you, so you don't know what's in it) causes all those issues? Wow. Man, I feel enlightened.

Your rapist love is sickening. Your approval of destroying children is more so. Your intimate knowledge of how a rapist feels and thinks makes me want to vomit.

Made the list, did ya?

I do not recall using the word "weird" but do get and understand your point.

I never said I agree with him being arrested-just said I am kinda glad he was. Not really the same

Even if a few people benefit, it's great. A reduction in crime is always good for society as a whole.

I would certainly disagree with this general statement. "Crime" could be reduced through horrible draconian and oppressive means. Authoritative dictatorship over our lives, complete Big Brother type society. That would not be good for us as a whole. Reduction of crime at the cost freedom is NOT worth it.

Murder is a much more serious crime than molestation. Should we censor books that show people how to kill others?

I don't think so. If you've bought a book telling you how to fiddle the kiddies then you're already a lost cause.

LOL Still bitter about your ass kicking on the recidivism thing huh? It's ok, man, you'll be ok.

Yea, you'll find me on the list of the EDUCATED.

Where did I say I loved a rapist? You are a sorry ass excuse for a human. Get a life, and while you're at it, an education.

I have a problem with a lot of **** which goes down in society, but that does not necessarily mean that just because I do not like it that I can do anything about it.

Nobody is saying the book is raping people... or will make people become pedophiles..

But can you admit that the book enables pedophiles? It's a how-to-guide.. talks of how to target children, spot vulnerable children... It's basically a manuscript that will cause pedophiles to find justification in their actions or justification to take action... The book is potentially harmful. The author has stated his goal with the book, it's pretty clear... he wants pedophilia to be more acceptable and for them to get lesser time in jails and prisons, by ethically molesting kids

Um, try to play along and track with the rest of the kids, okay? Your quote: "What do you expect? Our society is overly sensitive to matters of sex, even more so than violence."

THAT is what I addressed. The fact that this is not about sex and feelings toward it.

NAMBLA baby. Card carrier.

If that is indeed what the book does, that is definitely sick and very disturbing. But not illegal. Sometimes truly supporting our laws and freedom means sucking it up and saying with your chest poked out "Damnit, that **** is legal so he can do it. I hate it, but it's not illegal so I have to stand up for his right to do that." Otherwise, you aren't worth your weight in dog shyt. You MUST stand up for the rights of all, because once you let one person go, the slippery slope has been set.

Uh, Kev, I didn't say that. Demon of Light did. Slow down and pay attention. Excuse my inability to "play along" when you put a quote from someone else onto me.

So you might want to " track with the rest of the kids, okay".

You thoroughly made an ass out of yourself with that post right there.

Funny thing about what one writes: A person can always go back to it. Quote: Nope, doesn't make a difference. I still hate vaguely-worded laws used as MORAL claw-hammers.

It's too bad that a flat-out lie is the best you can do. As anybody who has been paying attention and has more than two brain cells to rub together and make heat with knows, I was talking about obscenity laws specifically with respect to the writing and publication of the book -- not with respect to the sexual abuse of children.

There are tons of potentially harmful things in society that we allow. It's a consequence of freedom.

What? You thought once they had it, they'd give it up? No effing way. Those that argued? We were called traitors, un-American, terrorist lovers.

Riiight...
