In the UK, on the other hand, government contributes 50 percent. So when the Cameron/Clegg government announced that it may cut subsidies to the arts by as much as 25 percent, the howls were piercing. Alistair Spalding, artistic director of the Sadler's Wells dance theater in London, sorrowfully complained to the Washington Post that if forced to seek private donations, he might not be able to stage such groundbreaking work as last year's interpretative dance "in which the pope sexually abuses an altar boy..."

The 'Arts' was always a bloated and unnecessary white elephant. Subsidising opera and old paintings was bad enough but crap like turds in jam jars, or unmade beds, provide just more idiotic spending criteria.

An episode of tv comedy Yes Prime Minister actually suggested the answer - privatise the arts, with the likes of the National Theatre building upkeep being put to tender, so the theatre company would have to scale down lavish expenditure. Plus stage the kind of plays people other than snooty liberals would actually want to watch.

Other than some ring-fenced expenditure for old masters and such, galleries should be subjected to the same. And if we need laws forcing modern 'art' to be purchased at scrap value when being paid for through tax then so be it. Many artists admit their materials come from the junk yard anyway.

But by and large, there is a need to cut back and economise, what with the criminal largesse of the previous government. It's just the criteria which I question....

Our 'heir to Blair' PM, who calls himself a 'Liberal Conservative' and who made a point of paying tribute to New Labour on Number Ten's doorstep, has indeed delivered 'change'.

Along with his amoral cohort Nick Clegg, he's successfully managed to change the minds of most people who had any faith in him!

http://www.debatepolitics.com/europ...ty-itself-still-going-bad.html#post1059012121

Our oily new Prime Minister is obviously trying to set a record and become MORE than just the heir to Blair!

In just a few weeks the coalition government appear to have broken more promises than Labour in that time, encouraged more sleaze and immorality and been just as quick off the mark to starve even our kids and old folk through cuts and taxes.

They've even been more efficient at emptying our jails and surrendering what's left of our independence to the EU!

COMMUNISTS TO RESCUE EUROPE?!

We knew what they were like last time!

A Surprise Boost for Euro from China

For political reasons, China's wading in with offers of financial help for the punky little Eurozone. Apparently, A nasty Americans' offer of help would be a waste as they wouldn't have such a solid and supremacist ulterior motive!

Still, at least this gives our plucky little Europhiles the chance to stand and say No! It gives them the chance to stand and say No blood money from extremist, murderous and exploitative dictatorships!

The buggers are United Against Fascism, aren't they?! Or perhaps money always spoke louder than political ideology - be it bankrupt as their own or threatening as with the 'misunderstood' Reds!

I hesitate to do this as I've no chance of tying you down to a rational clear answer but you seem to be implying that China is going to buy up European debt and that this is either a good or bad thing.
I can't make head or tail of your rant and have generally given up trying with other threads but you do realise that China has pretty much bought up everyone else's debt?

China already "owns" America in terms of debt - they won't ever need to go to war to defeat the US, one day they'll just do the US what America did to us over Suez and threaten to dump their reserves when the US is doing something China doesn't like.

Got the customary patronising invalidation out of the way?

Good. Now, children, let us begin.

I can't make head or tail of your rant..

Does that mean China will remain un-vilified for its brutal, genocidal socialist dictatorship by leftists? Probably.. As usual.

But when it comes to the relatively ineffectual tiddlers in the National Front, EDL or BNP however, the condemnation comes out thick and fast!

You just need to be canny to do whatever you want in an age where war has supposedly been banished forever. (And with the Globalist ecomony moving eastwards, plus other nuclear mates in North Korea or Iran for a bit of bogeyman value, no wonder they've been a bit cocky recently.)

I don't know what Chairman Mao will have made of the method, but I'm quite sure the successors of the Tiannenmen Square mob would have given him a good chuckle at the result!

I feel brain cells dying every time I try to explain things to you.. Anyhow, I have spare so - you invalidate yourself by suddenly realising what is old news - that the Chinese have been buying foreign debt for years now. China is now almost the biggest influence in Africa, it holds huge quantities of US debt and bonds and was a major instigator in the discussions about the world changing from using the dollar as a means of international trade.

However, old news it is - you see a story about China now buying up Greek debt at bargain basement prices and it starts to look at other EU nations and you decide this is a story about the left.

You used the phrase "surprise rescue from the left" in the post. The only person surprised is you.

-- Does that mean China will remain un-vilified for its brutal, genocidal socialist dictatorship by leftists? Probably.. As usual.

But when it comes to the relatively ineffectual tiddlers in the National Front, EDL or BNP however, the condemnation comes out thick and fast!

Let's clarify this rubbish you're spouting - are you talking about vilifying them here in DP? Or out in the world? Or where you learn your "debate" tactics - on the youtube comments sections under videos?

-- You just need to be canny to do whatever you want in an age where war has supposedly been banished forever. (And with the Globalist ecomony moving eastwards, plus other nuclear mates in North Korea or Iran for a bit of bogeyman value, no wonder they've been a bit cocky recently.)

The latter section is a pile of rubbish that fails to support your argument. If you want to discuss China - then use the correct forum, if you want to discuss China buying up European debt - then get your story and facts up to date. I repeat for the last time - China has been doing this for years, nobody has been complaining recently either in the middle / the left / the right or from your BNP side because if nobody bought those bonds, their economies would still be in the mire.

Right now, many countries are in hoc to China and we have yet to see them flex their might. That day will come - China doesn't need nukes to threaten the world.

We operate free markets and that means whoever walks into a store to buy is allowed to - whether it's a right wing dictator or a communist thug - as long as they have the cash. There have been complaints that China doesn't reciprocate but nobody complained here when they bought up the Rover factory and shipped every brick, spanner and machine to China to make their own versions - not even you.

Let's clarify this rubbish you're spouting ..

The latter section is a pile of rubbish..

Yep, business as usual! For all the haughty belittling I'm surprised, even now, you have the leftist temerity to get on that high horse of yours over intellectual debate! Still, all the more to make you look the worse of us, as you go out of your way to kill your brain by debating an inferior little heretic like me!

You used the phrase "surprise rescue from the left" in the post. The only person surprised is you.

If you're going to swan 'round like Queen Bitch, at least quote me right. I put "COMMUNISTS TO RESCUE EUROPE?! We knew what they were like last time!"

(And as far as leftist rescues go, I don't think many would be unsurprised, given what a socialist Britain was like when we last had one in the 1970s!)

I repeat for the last time - China has been doing this for years, nobody has been complaining recently either..

So that means no condemnation of China's brutal regime then! For a start, I know it's in you yourself, although you also passed up the chance to condemn murderous communists in the COMMUNISTS AGAINST OPPRESSION thread too!

(And I don't care about the Right or the BNP as far as this goes.)

There have been complaints that China doesn't reciprocate but nobody complained here when they bought up the Rover factory and shipped every brick, spanner and machine to China to make their own versions - not even you.

Yes they did. And I wasn't on this board back then, but your dead old brain probably slipped you up on that one too!

Who says the Chinese are rescuing? They're buying power and control. Plain and simple.

-- So that means no condemnation of China's brutal regime then! For a start, I know it's in you yourself, although you also passed up the chance to condemn murderous communists in the COMMUNISTS AGAINST OPPRESSION thread too!

I have little interest in your threads RoP, you aren't interested in debate and you simply insult those who you disagree with. I'm merely giving back - however I don't go calling opponents or anyone you don't like "twunt" and hoping the mods aren't watching.

However as I said - posts about China in general should be in the Asia forum and if you do go there, you'll find my posts regarding China and Tibet.

-- Yes they did. And I wasn't on this board back then, but your dead old brain probably slipped you up on that one too!

Dead and old it may be, but still far too sharp for the likes of you.

See? You're doing it again. The above has absolutely ZERO relevance to China buying power and influence over Europe in buying up debt. It doesn't back your "argument" up and you still seem to believe that posting a fistload of irrelevant links helps convince anyone who disagrees with you.

Don't worry, I'm bored already.

See? Speaking to you kills off more of my brain cells than a couple of six-packs of guiness. At least the Guiness is more entertaining.

--(And I don't care about the Right or the BNP as far as this goes.)

You don't convince anyone. I don't know why you try to deny or refute it.

Yes indeed, on that we agree. Lovely to find some middle-ground, even when I seem to be the only one who notices. Have a point.

...you aren't interested in debate and you simply insult those who you disagree with....

Ooooh! Talk about your brazen hypocrisy! I was just writing away, safely on 'ignore', when all of a sudden I'm ambushed with patronising smear and insult .. but I forgive you rubber duck!

(And what's more, when I call the likes of Gordon Brown or David Cameron a twunt, they're not members of this board so I don't get thrashed for it. When the mods think I've directly insulted a fellow Debate Politic-arian they let me know.

Dead and old it may be, but still far too sharp for the likes of you.

Ah, a brief detour from the usual sniping for a dabble in the world of wit. Rarely seen but a workmanlike effort nevertheless. You've got two points now.

See? You're doing it again.

What? Putting you straight on the 'point' you made about MG Rover and China.

Don't worry, I'm bored already.

See? Speaking to you kills off more of my brain cells than a couple of six-packs of guiness. At least the Guiness is more entertaining.

Proper wit ran out has it? Probably you're thinking with the dead bits.

You don't convince anyone.

Maybe not you. But we're having a back-and-forth, what more do you want?

But seeing as you're not convinced, let's have your condemnation of Communist China and its brutality, especially where Tibet is concerned. Let's see if we can have another little bit of meeting in the middle to come away with.

However as I said - posts about China in general should be in the Asia forum and if you do go there, you'll find my posts regarding China and Tibet.

Ah, good. Maybe you can link me to the posts where you've condemned the regime as murderous and oppressive as it is. You've had links enough from me already.

Let me get this straight... you want me to do your work for you?

DP has a perfectly working search engine that'll search threads for you.

Tell you what, if I do your work for you and find that I haven't ever posted any condemnation of China - I will join you in the BNP and agree everything you say about Muslims. I'll even wear your tin foil hat when you don't need it and worry that the left is taking over the UK.

If I have posted my condemnation of China in the past, you agree to stop demonizing Muslims for 6 weeks OR you agree to wear a Burkha for a month and eat only halal meats.

No, I want you to do your work for you. I provide my own backlinks on many an occasion, not expecting my readers to dredge through old haystacks to find the needle.

No. If you do what I do for myself every day I post here, I'll agree to keep telling the truth. Rubbish about the BNP and tinfoil hats I'll leave to you.

Your links are often pointless so I stop bothering to read them. They're also links to threads where you've lost the argument but you post them as if they validate what you've moved onto.

There's no need for me as "your reader" to go back and see how rubbish your current argument is when it's pretty much the same one as you've always had.

Leopards can't change their spots, I don't accept your offer "to keep telling the truth" before I post the threads I started or the posts I've made critical of China. I say this because your "truth" is often invalid - not always though as you can be pretty sane when discussing Russia or life in the old societ bloc areas.

My offer stands as is - if I have posted thread critical of China or her actions you "agree to stop demonizing Muslims for 6 weeks OR you agree to wear a Burkha for a month and eat only halal meats."

I couldn't care less whether you're convinced or not, or whether you have another try at trying to bash me into submission with ad-hoc insults in lieu of argument. But what does matter is you providing your evidence to back up your point.

What's so difficult? It's the act of providing the link itself which is is the issue, not whether or not you like mine!

That's the thing with many on the Left - they can't just write 'I condemn a bloodthirsty communist dictatorship', as anyone else would. A lather of over-emotional outburst at how rubbish the opposition is occurs, followed by a demand to stop saying the kind of things they don't like to read.

Wanting to buy silence for the promise of something which may not even exist anyway is straight out of the EU's book. (Remember when Tony Blair was promised a reform of the Common Agricultural Policy if he quietened down his demand for Britain's EU rebate? The rebate was slashed, yet the CAP reform was forgotten all about.)

Post 32, you accuse me of not posting any criticisms of communism. You're the one throwing out an accusation and you want me to jump through your little hoops for you? It doesn't work like that.

[/yawn] left blah blah... lather blah blah... and how Tony Blair and the CAP come into this I have no idea.

You threw an accusation up, you back it up - don't start digressing. If you want to pretend at intellectual honesty or charges that "us on the left" cherry-pick the evils we lambaste or load our criticisms with so many provisos (to take account of our own sympathies) that it's all meaningless. "Oooh, it's not proper Communism", is a whine often heard - then get some balls and agree to the bet.

You're wasting time now, when I first replied in post 29, I said it was a foolish venture to try and get any honesty or straight answers out of you and you prove me right yet again. And for the record - you happen to be the only poster on this entire forum who posts multiple useless links in your threads. I have no desire to look as foolish as you manage on a regular basis but I will post my links to my threads or discussions with communist china supporters once you agree to the bet.

Actually, you've probably already checked and found all my discussions with jfuh and others and are now blathering and whining to bore me to death so I forget to press you for a straight and honest response.

Show some balls for a change.

You're the one throwing out an accusation and you want me to jump through your little hoops for you? It doesn't work like that.

It does. It's called backing up your argument, something which I myself have been asked to do in the past.

Anyway, If I'm so constantly wrong, why hold back on proving it? And why put the onus on me to find something amongst your huge stack of comments, stuff which you yourself confess probably isn't there anyway?

...get some balls and agree to the bet.

What? To not do something which doesn't actually happen anyway? You talk about 'demonising' Muslims when I post examples of fundamentalist extremism, yet I don't actually see you refute or disprove my allegations. For example, instead of wailing and going on about how pointless it is to talk to me, why not actually provide counter-evidence to debunk what you dismiss as useless links?

(I suspect your real problem is the fact other people can read my stuff and make up their own minds. If I was genuinely not worth bothering with, you wouldn't have condescended to pick a playground squabble in the first place. That's where demanding my silence in return for possibly answering a question comes in.)

I will post my links to my threads or discussions with communist china supporters once you agree to the bet.

Your condition is based on a jaundiced falsehood, so I'm hardly likely to accept a biased bet. Even had you put '..agree not to criticise Islam for a month', you would have at least made more of an unbiased request. But as it is, I won't be unnecessarily quiet on a hot topic for a month just for the possibility of receiving one link.

And besides, what sort of person wants to trade his links for opponents being subdued anyway?

Show some balls for a change.

Not rising to your little taunts, and getting you wrapped up in your whirl of indignant insolence, doesn't need too much in the way of balls.

i always say that the most effective measure is to expel Greece from The EU; otherwise , Greece will be the reason of collapse in The EU. if you do not believe me , please just take a look at the military projects of Greece, and think how Greeks will finance those projects.

It's the EU that should be eliminated, not Greece.
