Even if that were true (and it’s not — at least not yet), then all that means is that the Republican Party initially needed trump as a vehicle to show its true face, and now they no longer require that vehicle. That should be considered terrifying.

The “base” of the Repub Party had been hungering for years for a FOX-based charlatan to come along to save them from those terrible liberals, and Trump was all that and more. And yes, he did not “change the face” of the
party, he merely removed the filmy mask of “respectability” that had been hiding its true self.
