The leader of a group of artists says he was ordered to lighten the skin tones of children depicted in an outdoor mural covering two walls of a Prescott, Arizona elementary school because of complaints that the faces appeared too ethnic.
"We consistently, for two months, had people shouting racial slander from their cars," R.E. Wall told AZCentral. "We had children painting with us, and here come these yells of (epithet for Blacks) and (epithet for Hispanics)." Wall explained that "because of the controversy," he was told to make the children's faces lighter and happier.
"We were looking at it from an artistic view," Lane claimed "Nothing at all to do with race." Lane's order, however, came only after City Councilman Steve Blair had used his radio talk show to start a campaign for the mural to be removed.
"I am not a racist individual, but I will tell you depicting a black guy in the middle of that mural, based upon who's president of the United States today and based upon the history of this community when I grew up, we had four black families - who I have been very good friends with for years - to depict the biggest picture on that building as a black person, I would have to ask the question, 'Why?'"

Any time someone says "I am not [insert type of bigot here], but..." he is absolutely a bigot. But the truly awesome thing is even if bigots learn all the codespeak for "I am a bigot" and avoid it impeccably, they still can't help the fact that they don't see themselves as bigots and will give it away every time.
(boldface mine)
Huh...
I don't even really know what to make of that.

What's really sad, is that we live in a society where a person can't make a criticism without first qualifying that they're not a bigot.
I say take the mural down altogether. Problem solved. Everybody happy.
If the black kid was in the far background and the white kids were at the very front, making the assumption that whites are the leaders and blacks the followers, we would never hear the end of it.
Perhaps he wasn't referring to race, at all? Political correctness run amuck, perhaps? Again!!

Yea, nothing racist about it. We are only talking about a City Councilman who openly refers to Hispanics as Taco Flippers, and who complains about diversity being shoved down the throats of white people. Actually, it says more about certain leaders of Arizona's white community. But you be the judge. The images look OK to me.
But the biggest human being on the mural happens to be..........
BLACK!! OH.MY.GOD!!
Said the City Councilman:
Translation - I have lots of black friends, and I like black people, as long as they know their place.
That says it all, folks.
Article is here.
The sooner these people admit to being racists, own up to being human, the better off we will be.All this crap will be over when, as men, we state that there is one race, the human race...
The painting must stay, unaltered.
Right now, Arizona and the entire world have a long way to go.
To those who yell racial slurs from their automobiles, I'd say "remove your fat ass from your vehicle and repeat that insult again, to my face, if you are man enough(and foolish enough!")
