Are You the Same Partisanship/ideology as Your Parents?

Perhaps not right now but it's a bit too early for you to develop any real definitive opinions on the world if you're still in college.

It's not an exact science, of course, but people typically become more and more conservative as they become older. You may be an exception but it's pretty likely much of your world views will change when you find your first real post-college job, buy a home, start a family, etc.

With the delaying of adulthood in modern society, I think it would be a pretty good idea to push back the voting age.

I would say my beliefs are similar to my parents'. There are definitely generational difference between us but we typically value similar things and have similar core basic beliefs.

I don't know how to answer this.

My mom stubbornly insists that she is a Democrat, but only if she has to choose. She insists all politicians are basically the same (which is something we pretty much agree on, at least to a point). She doesn't vote because she feels that it won't count, no matter how much we argue about that. She considers herself Catholic, but she does not follow everything the church teaches, to a pretty good degree. She and I agree on a lot of views/issues, in general. We tend to disagree vehemently on smaller points within those issues which end up becoming heated discussions that the rest our family either avoids with a passion or watches from a safe distance with amusement.

My dad and I don't generally discuss his viewpoints on anything political. My dad will wait for me to bring something up and then generally agree with me on it. I'm not really sure how feels on most issues, even ones that he "agrees" with me on when I bring it up because my dad is notorious for avoiding conflicts.

My family considers me the politically outspoken one. Most of my family avoids politics.
 

I am. Both of my parents raised me to accept personal responsibility and work hard...to expect no favors and save my money. I'm a conservative.
 
Yes, I am. Though I am definitely much more vocal and outgoing about it than they are/were.

On a debate site, which by definition is populated almost exclusively by nerds? Yes they will.
 
My dad was a Republican, my mom was mentality ill with schizophrenia and had no political influence on me.

I was a registered and voted straight Republican for many years, I voted for Nixon twice, Ford, Reagan twice and GHWB in 1988. In 1992 Ross Perot, 1996 Clinton, 2000 Gore, 2004 Kerry and voted for Obama twice. I didn't start getting interested in politics until the early 90s when I listened to Rush Limbaugh. I now vote straight for Democratic candidates, but even they are disappointing at times.

I changed it to Moderate because I don't buy into many of our conservative politicians' mindsets. I think many of them have gone to the extreme.
 
My mom is small l libertarian. My dad is apolitical. My brother is large l libertarian.

Diverse family, politically.

I think, mind you, I think my parents were liberal.... or conservative...depending...
They did stress "think for yourself" and do the right thing...

I voted yes because we are now but when I was growing up they were both die hard, hard core union democrats. They changed their registration about 11-12 years ago. I mother actually feels guilt for the collective bargaining that took place on her behalf for the taxpayer dime.
 
oh, noooooo. My parents thought Bush was the best President ever. I never heard them talk politics until the Bush Administration.

As far as the rest of the ideology, I am similar but only in that I am a Christian. They are an extremely hard-core religion where the women only wear dresses and wear no makeup, and the men have no facial hair. I believe in God, the Father, but believe that I don't have to go through what they are going through just to be able to be a Christian.
 
My parents are both hardcore rightwing.....................

No. I bare more resemblance to my father's politics, but we disagree on a fair number of things.

My mother is an extreme conservative. Obviously not much resemblance there.

They're polar opposites in politics, and most other things as well.

It actually kind of begs the question of what the hell they saw in each other. :lol:
 
My parents have been divorced for a long time now. My mother is a closet Democrat. She won't admit that she stands with any party, but when politics get brought up...it is obvious.

My father is a Republican. I share most views with him now because he is starting to lean towards the Libertarian side. He fell for all the propaganda of the wars under the Bush Administration, but he admitted that it was wrong recently. He is against the social welfare. We share a commonality in that because we understand that our country cannot sustain this kind of spending. Now, I am working to convince him that Defense spending also needs to be cut.

That is one thing about Republicans that separates me from the party. They share my view in cutting entitlements, but they argue strongly against any sort of Defense spending. I got to keep reminding them that both must happen if we are ever to make progress on this monumental deficit.
 

Opposites attract
 
Me and my parents lean in the same area politically, but I'm more libertarian than my parents. I'm a tea party conservative who cares more about freedom, foreign policy, and economic issues than social issues, even though I lean moderately conservative on social issues (I'm extremely conservative economically).
 
Not really, no. My mother is a libertarian conservative, and my father was a staunch (if hypocritical) social conservative. I'm some sort of unholy hybrid between a Roosevelt Republican and an Asatru religious fundamentalist.
