The fact is the history of both Korea and Viet Nam are much different than we have been told. The freedom of the people and their rights to self determination were secondary to the desires of the banking and military establishments to expand their web of exploitation. Like the fact that the US intentionally used incendiary bombs including napalm to exterminate between 20 - 30% of the North Korean civilian population. And you believe what? That Korea should've been left with the Japanese after WW2? Or that the Soviet Union, and thus the Kim family, should've been given the entire Korean peninsula? That the suffering of the North Korean people should be ignored because the US played a role?

That is changing... and fast. They can't stop the leaking of info pouring into their country via smuggled cell phones and innovative ways of tapping into the internet. Along with defectors' talking back into the country about their life outside of N. Korea.

Fun story: A fraternity brother of mine was in the army, stationed in SK for a bit. They got their hands on some Nork propaganda videos -- apparently, these things are hilarious. Things like Kim Jong Il (he was still alive then) throwing knives through cinder block walls and stuff like that. I'm fairly certain most people in NK pretend to believe the hype so they don't get disappeared, because most of it is so ridiculous that no sane person could buy it, even if they'd been indoctrinated by it their entire lives.

In modern times, dictators have ways of staying in power. If he's careful about what families he wipes out and rewards a few that he doesn't, he can keep it rolling.
