AUSTIN — Texas' voter ID law violates a key section of the Voting Rights Act, a federal appeals court affirmed Wednesday, striking down a controversial measure passed by the state's Republican-led legislature in 2011
Never understood how getting an ID is racist. The same people that think voter ID laws are evil, are the ones that want massive background checks for guns. Personally, I have no problem with people getting guns having a background check. But I also think you should have to show a state ID to vote.
Link is behind a pay wall.I am happy to see that the 5th Circuit has just smacked Jim Crow right in the chops. Although the court cited racial discrimination as the reason to overturn the Texas law, this decision is also going to help senior citizens and students, by removing requirements which were determined to be burdensome, and thus violated Section 2 of the Civil Rights Law. However, the court determined that the Texas law was designed to keep as many black people from voting as possible.
Good for them.

Interesting. I didn't get walled, and I didn't pay anything. Might be due to the fact that I have adblock installed on my Firefox browser. Anyways, thanx for the second link.

Because black people are way too stupid to get an ID. You're right.
you have to present an id to do half the things you do in this country and anything that regards the state.
so I guess all those laws are discriminating as well.
I guess that means the next time a cop asks to see a license just tell him that him requiring me to show him an id is discrimination
according to this court ruling.
You have promise as a speechwriter for Donald Trump.
It prevents illegal aliens from voting.

Voter ID laws are nothing more than Jim Crow laws. It is obvious that the majority of disenfranchised voters by this law often simply cannot afford to take a day off work (often multiple jobs) feeding their families to wait in life for hours at the DMV, and pay a 20 dollar fee (which pays for a week or more of electricity or gas) to get an id to vote.
