Loved the original series and really enjoyed the next generation, it was more cerebral than physical like the original. I kind of stopped watching the series after that but I have also seen several of the star trek movies.

Can you make it go?

I grew up watching Star Trek. It had a good run, but it died when the 2009 remake movie came out. Everything that has come out since has been unwatchable for me.

Original series was interesting but i was still a kid.

Try Deep Space Nine. Star Fleet takes a bit of a hit on their utopian veneer.

As far as modern Trek, Strange New Worlds is episodic like the original and most like it.

I would say more but @Boots will call me a nerd.

Massive Star Trek Fan.

But I am a bit of a purist.

So I enjoy the Original Series, Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager and that's it.

The movies are mostly good (Hate Nemesis) and Star Trek 2009 was aight.

It's difficult to say as a whole DS9 is some of the best TV ever made because of just the sheer amount of episodes TV series had back then and my god, there are some stinkers, but DS9 is my favorite show of all time, despite it's aged and relative lack of budget compared to some of the juggernaughts that have lit up our screens in the last decade and a bit, your Game of Thrones and so on, DS9 has some of the finest episodes of TV ever put to screen in my humble opinion.

Same.
Love the original series but actually enjoyed the remastered versions.

First time I saw the remastered The Doomsday Machine, I was outraged. How DARE they!

It's just a shame that the OG Enterprise Constitution Class will never look quite right, always looks a little awkward.

The Enterprise A Refit...

Now that is a lovely lady lol.

Have any of you watched Star Trek Continues? They did 11 episodes (before it was shut down by CBS suing Star Trek content creators) and it was more like the Original Series than anything that has come out since. If you're a Star Trek fan, I recommend it. It's like Star Trek's Fourth Season.

Here's a teaser reel:

Grew up loving the original TV series.
Some of the remakes and movies have been good, some not so much.
I still watch some of original TV series from time to time and laugh to myself on how badly the acting was in them. But I still watch.

Big fan of the 60s Star Trek - - not so much the spinoffs.

Favorite Star Trek movie was/is Star Trek (2009) with Chris Pine as J.T. Kirk. Pine is a better J.T. Kirk than Shatner, IMO.

I've watched all of it, and mostly loved all of it.

I struggled with Discovery, too much crying and it should have been retitled The Michael Burnam Show.

I absolutely loved Lower Decks. Highly conservative viewers should avoid it, but any other fan will enjoy it.

I have the DVD set of the entire original series, but I no longer have a DVD player hooked up to my main screen. My wife goes to bed at 10:30, so during the week, I’ve been in the habit of watching Perry Mason at 10:30pm, then an episode of The Twilight Zone, capped off by an episode of the original Star Trek series. I catch the first two OTA on ME TV, then I stream Star Trek on Paramount +. It even keeps track of what episode I left off the previous night.

Most of us seemingly have seen every episode dozens of times, where we even know the dialogue that’s coming. But there were some episodes, especially in Season 3, that I didn’t recall quite so well. Then there are the staples that I could watch over and over, like The Menagerie and The City on the Edge of Forever.

I happen to also like all of the big screen movies, some better than others. The thrill of seeing the first reboot with Chris Pine as Kirk was pretty awesome. I never tire of that movie, either.

Just my two cents worth…

Big enough of a fan that I was an Admiral and on the board (Chief of Computer Operations. I took care of the website, the wiki we used for it, and our database which I programed an OL interface for) of one of the international fan clubs. I have watched all of the movies and series, including the original Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS), and all when they aired saved TOS. Looking at my book database, we own around 475 Star Trek books, including the non fiction ones. The number could vary a little depending on if you count the biographies as Star Trek, not to mention that it brought up some written by Trek stars, but were not specifically Trek. At one convention I actually got to present George Takei a combadge that was specific to our fan club (Maquis Forces International). My brother's GF was in charge of makeup for the fan created Farragut Forward. Even my ID and the name I am most known by come from ST. Maquiscat refers to being in the Maquis and the persona being Caitian. Logan Andrews was the name of the character/persona, and it has gotten to the point that I am called by that name more often than by my legal name.

While I love all of the series, if I would have to pick one to be my favorite, I would have to choose Prodigy, with Strange New Worlds coming in as a close second. Of the books, I would say that SEC (Starfleet Corps of Engineers), followed closely by New Frontiers are my favorites series, although the number one book will always be Q-In-Law by Peter David. Even better is the audiobook read by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and John De Lancie.

And yes, I do like the Kelvinverse movies as well. Personally, I think that Karl Urban pegged McCoy so perfectly that DeForest Kelly would look at him and say, "You are more Dr. McCoy than I am." I know a guy who had something like that happen, only it was Anthony Ainley telling him that he looked more like The Master from Dr. Who than Anthony himself did.

Those sleek retro lines 😁
What about Strang New Worlds Enterprise? It captures the "in-between" look of OG & movies Enterprise. Although it's color is a little too dark.

Lower Decks was more Trek at times than other Trek series. An excellent series. 5 seasons is not enough. Just remember to avoid the Moopsy at all costs.

Yeah maybe a little.

I just have such a seething hatred for all things New Trek that I didn't really take a close look.

An argument can be made that Capt. Sisko is the best captain of all time. Garak is the best character on DS9. DS9 was excellent in that it also gave its secondary characters a chance to shine and grow as characters. Just look at Nog: from juvenile delinquent to Starfleet Cadet.

It does take some getting used to. Especially where the technology is concerned. Discovery seems to have better tech than the later Trek series. At least ST: Ent kept it's tech generally more "primitive" as it was a (underrated) prequel series.

Absolutely.

Another thing I think it did well is strong female characters.

Just so excellent, Kira Nerys is an example of a strong female character done right.

If there's one thing I can criticize modern Hollywood for, it is annihilating the concept of a strong woman on screen with piss poor writing.

Kira Nerys is a little hard nosed at first, but you get to understand her struggles, what she's been through, she makes mistakes, she falls in love, she stands up for what she believes, but she also learns to compromise and learn from others.

She is incredible.

Jadzia is great too but in a different way.

I like the episodic feel of a series. It's like classic Trek.

You're in good company then 😁

DS9 did character development the best. Kira goes from hard assed anti-Federation to accepting Sisko as the Emissary of the Prophets. There is no better Trek villian than Gul Dukat.
Jadzia was great too. But Ezri was such a cutie.

As an aside, Section 31 was a horrifically awful movie. It obviously was a "crap, Michelle Yeoh just won an Oscar, let's get this one done fast before we lose her" situation handled very poorly. Most likely the worst single movie of any kind that I've seen in at least a couple of years.

Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks are both excellent. The cross-over episode between the two is my favorite and most rewatched single episode of any television series, ever. Something about it simply clicked for me.
