I think poetry is great. I am sure you like it, or do you ignroe lyrics when you listen to a song?

No, but I really only like the lyrics when they're singing. I don't know I'm weird...there's no reasoning with me. I'm a vegan socialist who loves Toby Keith.

Not any weirder than Frank Sinatra lyrics being turned into hard rock.

"When the end comes, I know
I'm just a gigolo
Life goes on without me"

--Frank Sinatra and David Lee Roth

I cant stand country. :2wave:
I can't stand any of the new country. The old country music was great but the new stuff is a sad excuse for country music..

I remember when he did that. It was hilarious. :)

This is definitely the last throes of the Bush administration and the Republicans in particular. The tide is turning and the pendulum is swinging back to the liberals, this war is is spelling doom for the r-wingers and Iraq will be their downfall. Anti-war songs are slowly permeating our culture again.

Is this country great, or what?

Go Cindy Sheehan... Rock on GREEN DAY!

Indeed, ..& he WILL finish out his 2nd term. The pendulum swinging back to the liberals:rofl ?

The liberals NEVER ever represented the mainstream American majority, ..they just want people to think that!

Btw, ..who cares about little pubiscient MTV rockers that are all part of the mutual admiration society?

MTV is a decadent & amoral channel. The Cable companies should be forced to make it a premium channel so parents would have to know they are getting it.

While I am not defending MTV (because it actually sucks...it was so much better back when it actually played music videos for more than two 1/2 hour spots every day), it has to be said that pop culture is still a part of our culture. Music is the modern day poetry (which is why I tend to immerse myself in the Romantics and the Neo Classicists) and poetry tends to reflect the world around. It is a viable medium to express political views and it always has been...look at the effect the anti war music had back in the 60's.

And Kelzie...how can you not know who James Taylor is?

jallman # 65

I didnt say they were good, just that they had an effect...instigated a whole movement. But I do take exception to your reference to Cat Stevens...I do hope you referred to his version of that song rather then Dolly's and Lady Black Momba's dance version back in the ninety's :rofl

i was agreeing with him, saying that MTV drones aren't competent to breathe

so do you wear little girl pants and thick ugly black rimmed glasses

those are the kind of guys i pick fights with when i'm drinking

because i know i can kick their ass

Awww. Isn't that cute. A kid who thinks that drinking and fighting makes him a man. Especially picking fights with people he knows he can beat.

A little piece of advice. Grow up.

Forgive the boy. He types faster than he thinks sometimes. ;)

From what I've seen from Skilmatic, being able to type at all would, in my opinion, seem to qualify for that.

David Lee Roth is hard rock?????

As pointed out to me by a fellow member, my before posts on this particular thread aren't helping at all. Sorry If I offended anyone, I offically withdraw those comments.

Well if MTV says it then it must be true. And if green day, a band that has been accused of selling out gets an award. I can see how that means the republican party and iraq and all that other **** is wrong. Course it would probably be easier if 12 year olds were allowed to vote. Then we would really be in trouble. But since we are working with supposed adults. I think we can put the award winning green day into context. Next think your going to start saying is that cindy didn't lie or go back on her story.. O the youth of today.....LOL

No, just musicians penning protest songs against President Bush and the war, utilizing their celeberity status to make a statement and to be heard, in their bid to contribute to the ever growing anti-war protest movement.

Don't you people wish that this growing anti-war movement is being organized by 12 year olds but alas that is not true.

It is a grassroots movement that is spawning a new generation of popular artists penning their protest songs, it is a mother who lost her son in the war, setting up camp outside of President Bush's Texas ranch, it is Black politicians starting to show support in Crawford, it's college kids and old hippies and Joan Baez, it is country folk and just ordinary people challenging Bush on the war.

Ok?

PS... and yes it's even 12 year olds.

Awww ain't that sweet. You can try and spit on the soldiers like your anti war brethren a 3 decades ago. I have no doubt that would make you so proud.

The mother you speak of says that the president was nice to her. That she felt good after talking with him. Now exactly what side of cindys story are you talking about. Your example seems to go which ever direction she's feeling good about at the moment. Very credible she is....LOL . The day she makes a sacrafice for something I might consider listening to her. Course she is lying to someone. You just have to figure out whom. And this is the woman that you hold up as an example...Nice

Bubble gum politics... Now that has a ring to it. Ya ever think these songs are there for the artist to make money? Because its hip and cool to be a protester. Course it's hipper and cooler to take your money for the song:rofl

What exactly is this grass roots effort looking to accomplish?

They didn't win the award because of their themes. They won because they created a rock opera with a lot of good sounding music. Green Day's underlying political themes in their music reflects a group of ignorant simpletons looking for the easy answer to blame American government. How "Rock n' Roll" of them. Truly original. People accuse big business, Presidents, government, and corporations for going to war for individual gain. Funny, how the media and celebrities seem to get a free pass as they earn their money from war. Whatever.

Their surface theme in their latest album is actually kind of pathetic. Think about it....a white kid, named Jesus of Suburbia, has to move away to find himself and to make sense of his reality, because he has it so bad? Give me a break. I got a fix...go visit a ghetto or a third world country.

That being said.......I really enjoy Green Day. Their latest Album, despite their cry baby themes, is my favorite. The Irony does not escape me.
