IMO it seems Newsom is 'playing national politics' by getting headlines this week for opposing transgender women in women's sports. That he's bothering suggest the sort of thing he'd do to help build a 2028 presidential run. Getting press, 'standing out' from other Democrats, while not offending Democrats too much.

Best of luck to him. The fact that he married Kimberly Guilfoyle is enough for me to say he will never get my vote in a primary.

Governor Newsom’s latest on trans female athletes has him moving towards my “no way” column for 2028 presidential candidates.

He’s playing this for national exposure, not for his California constituents.

Disappointing but not unexpected.

He is using solutions to the problems faced by Reagan era Democrats. He is trying to replicate Clinton.

It will not work.

That would be dumb.

Look, the Dems don't need to appeal to California, they need to appeal to the swing states.

A better candidate would be someone like Behear or Cooper. Moderate Southern Governors.

They are worse.

Some sort of Fetterman Manchin silly Democrat but not nonsense is a loser.

Democrats need to get their voters engaged, not pretend they don’t exist.

Newsome never really had a shot, and if he thinks a run to the middle this far before primary season is going to help him, he's farther gone that I would have expected.

In this timeline, the country isn't going to elect a Democratic Governor of California as President.

That's what he's doing. He's a great pick, and it's not just about 'appeal to the center-right'. If that's your logic, just run a Republican as a Democrat. It's wrong for the country and bad politics. Remember Truma's comment about 'give the people a Democrat acting like a Republican and a Republican, and they'll pick the real thing'.

A much worse candidate from California, known to the country for nothing but 'picked by Joe Biden', with 100 days to run, drug down by Biden, essentially tied trump. Newsom is a much better candidate, Governor of the largest state for two terms, years to run, and he'll both be boosted by a backlash to trump and running against a successor to trump, possible the despised VanceVance. IMO Newsom would likely win.

I would LOVE for Newsom to run in 2028.

As a failed governor of California, Gavin Newsom has demonstrated his incompetence in an executive position - just like Kamala Harris demonstrated her incompetence in an executive position (as Border Czar).

I would love for either of these people to be the Democratic Party's nominee for 2028. 👍

It would almost guarantee the GOP another eight years in the White House.

I hear you. Far left progressive Newsom is one of those two faced opportunists pretending to be a moderate, what Biden would call a lying dog faced pony soldier. :ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:

If California was so appealing to the rest of the country, Harris would have won.

If the Center has shifted to the right, you don't get it to shift to the left by being a little more crazy.

This is the lesson the Democrats failed to learn in the 1980's, when they ran Mondale and then Dukakis before they finally had a lick of sense and ran Clinton (for all his flaws).

I think you read too much into that.

How does Newsom appeal to people in WI or PA?

Now, if Trump fouls up, yeah, the Democrats could run just about anyone and probably win. But that doesn't solve the underlying problem of THIS:

THIS is what Democrats need to fix. That so much of the country wants nothing to do with them, not on economic reasons, but cultural ones.

It's a misleading map. Here's a more accurate one of the populations.

If California was so appealing to the rest of the country, Harris would have won.

If Scranton, PA was so appealing to the nation, Biden would have won 2024 is your simplistic logic.

If the Center has shifted to the right, you don't get it to shift to the left by being a little more crazy.

As you said, the expectation is 2028 as a backlash election which will elect a Democrat, Californian or not. The country views 'Democrat' and 'California' a lot alike, unless it's a 'conservative Democrat' in which case it's the wrong Democrat.

This is the lesson the Democrats failed to learn in the 1980's, when they ran Mondale and then Dukakis before they finally had a lick of sense and ran Clinton (for all his flaws).

And Clinton was a far worse president than they'd have been.

Clinton was all about 'make the Democrats a corporatist sellout party' - which many say is why they lost recently. You might remember Hillary was the second most disliked nominee after trump.

Also remember trump ran to the left of her and Harris in many ways as a phony 'populist'. And that Bernie did better in national polls than Hillary OR trump. It was a party problem with the nomination, which you are showing again here, and that's a reason we lost. You want to talk about lesson not learned.

Except it's not accurate, because Trump won.

If Scranton, PA was so appealing to the nation, Biden would have won 2024 is your simplistic logic.

Biden didn't run in 2024. Clearly, the guy had lost his marbles, and as Woody Allen once said, 90% of success is just showing up.

As you said, the expectation is 2028 as a backlash election which will elect a Democrat, Californian or not. The country views 'Democrat' and 'California' a lot alike, unless it's a 'conservative Democrat' in which case it's the wrong Democrat.

Except it isn't just about the presidency. We have too many states where the GOP is favored for the Senate, and too many congressional districts that are gerrymandered. So electing a Democrat because people are unhappy with Trump's nonsense isn't going to do a lot of good if he doesn't bring Congress along.

And Clinton was a far worse president than they'd have been.

Clinton was all about 'make the Democrats a corporatist sellout party' - which many say is why they lost recently. You might remember Hillary was the second most disliked nominee after trump.

Nope. Clinton did fine, and he'd have probably won a third term if he could run for one. Gore almost won.

The problem with the far left of the Democratic party is that they think Obama's election was a sign that middle America really likes their far out ideas.

Trump was really never running against Hillary (or Biden or Harris, for that matter). He was always running against Obama.

Also remember trump ran to the left of her and Harris in many ways as a phony 'populist'. And that Bernie did better in national polls than Hillary OR trump. It was a party problem with the nomination, which you are showing again here, and that's a reason we lost. You want to talk about lesson not learned.

Oh, seriously? The only reason why Commie Bernie (A truly useless human being who has been in Congress for 30 years and has nothing to show for it) did well in 2016 primaries is people didn't like Hillary on a personal level. When he went up against Biden in 2020, Biden made short work of him.

Governor Newsom’s latest on trans female athletes has him moving towards my “no way” column for 2028 presidential candidates.

You are talking about men, just to be clear, thats what a "trans woman" is: a man.

Is that really the hill you want to die on in 2028? Think it over. Good luck. (y)

Trump was really never running against Hillary (or Biden or Harris, for that matter). He was always running against Obama.

Yeah. When Crooked donnie "ran against Obama", Crooked donnie lost.

A turd like donnie trump isn't fit to shine Barack Obamas shoes. Thats just a fact.

Except it's not accurate, because Trump won.

It is accurate. The geographical map is misleading. Empty land doesn't vote.

Biden didn't run in 2024.

Hence your logic being simplistic.

Except it isn't just about the presidency. We have too many states where the GOP is favored for the Senate, and too many congressional districts that are gerrymandered. So electing a Democrat because people are unhappy with Trump's nonsense isn't going to do a lot of good if he doesn't bring Congress along.

It's expected to be Congress and the presidency.

Nope. Clinton did fine, and he'd have probably won a third term if he could run for one. Gore almost won.

The measure of Clinton doing fine isn't his winning re-election.

The problem with the far left of the Democratic party is that they think Obama's election was a sign that middle America really likes their far out ideas.

There is no far left and they don't have far out ideas.

Republicans are far right and they have fanatical, un-American, corrupt, oligarchic policies. You show you have that radicalism.

I hear you. Far left progressive Newsom is one of those two faced opportunists pretending to be a moderate, what Biden would call a lying dog faced pony soldier. :ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:
Hence the moniker of 'Greasy Gavin' is totally applicable.
