Angela Merkel attacks Twitter over Trump ban

Leaders around the world are saying much the same thing.

Was it Goebbels who said that something like if you repeat a lie big enough and often enough people will eventually believe it?
And Trump and his GOPutuns are 21st century practitioners of the ‘big lie’.

a truly minor political party leader hardly represents India, but I can see how you would think it does.
Did you miss the topic heading? What Macron, for example, had to say?

And what big lie was that?

Been in hiding?

The big lie is the Election Voter Fraud Fraud that supported the "stop the steal" con. Beware the Kraken. He has hoist himself by his own petard and solidfied his place in history and on various all time president lists. Most lies, Most impeachments, Most indictment/convictions, Most debt accumulation, Most lost jobs, Most pissed off allies, Most loving enemies, Most embarrasments, Most arselickers et.al. Of course he will proudly hold the number one slot as worst president of all time, because America wont survive another Trump if hes a little smarter and a lot less needy.

It seems you don't even understand what a Big Lie is. You have no idea of what's being talked about and can't even make a decent fake!

Excuse me. The Big Lie is a well known widely and frequently applied type of propaganda, but points to you for being a student of Geobbels.

I merely pointed out the current Big Lie that has brought out the crazy fascist white nationalist lowlifes and the merely gullible, ignorant and afraid and resulted in the unanticipated consequence of Trump's second impeachment.

Funny how many tactics Trump has stolen from the nazi playbook. Must be one of those freakish planetary alignments.

I do agree I can't make a decent fake at all. How long did it take you to master the craft?

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said that, “A lot of people are going to be super unhappy with West Coast high tech as the de facto arbiter of free speech.” Big tech is banning speech it hates. A dictator cannot be censored, since he is the one doing the censoring.
By contrast, Michelle Obama called on Big Tech to permanently ban Trump. She said: “Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop enabling this monstrous behavior—and go even further than they already have by permanently banning this man from their platforms and putting in place policies to prevent their technology from being used by the nation’s leaders to fuel insurrection.”

But the alternative is the state then gets to decide what is and isn't allowed. We have a 1A that prohibits that, and a 1A that guarantees a right to free association, which means DP and Twitter et al. can kick off anyone they want for any reason.

So it's not sad - they just have a different system. If you want the state to tell us what is and isn't allowed, fine. Make the case.
That's certainly one alternative. Section 230 was devised as a way to avoid that - but it isn't working. It's past time that the issue was revisited. The internet is nothing like it was when the law was passed.

It's only not working because Twitter et al. have decided to ban some right wing blowhards and flame throwers, and when a company does something the conservatives don't like, the new "conservatism" that worships markets is to demand the government step in and make them do like conservatives want done, and to hell with markets, when they're mean to right wingers.

My basic position here is the problem with Twitter and the rest is they are too big and wield way too much power. It's not limited to them - vast swaths or our economy are controlled by a handful or less of multinational behemoths. There are just a few appliance makers, a few insurers, a few massive healthcare companies, drug companies, movie theaters, media companies. All of that is a big problem - too much power in too few hands.

So that's the problem, and if we want to solve the problem, it's not by making Twitter be nice to right wingers but to break up the big tech companies so there are more options. And don't quit there....

Dissatisfaction with Section 230 is hardly the sole purview of the right. Though Democrats have majorities in Congress, government is still somewhat divided. Now is as good a time as any to revisit Section 230.

Glad you agree with me.

It’s working fine. You’re just mad right wing terrorists are suffering consequences for their actions.
