Amnesty warns US to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia -649580

Amnesty International has accused members of the Saudi-led coalition of committing war crimes by bombing civilians in the conflict in Yemen. Some 13 airstrikes carried out by coalition forces in the Saada governorate between May and July killed about 100 civilians, including 55 children, the rights group said. It said that it was alarmed by the appalling disregard for civilian lives displayed by coalition forces, and called on the US and UK to suspend sales of weapons to their ally Saudi Arabia. In at least four of the airstrikes... homes attacked were struck more than once, suggesting that they had been the intended targets despite no evidence they were being used for military purposes, the group observed.

I'm so scared.

And they are obviously sympathetic to the Islamicists and care nothing about the atrocities that they are being committed.

But let's just trash and bash America because it's fun and trendy and makes us feel like we're important and have teeth.

This is all entirely Shakespearean.

They've 'Warned' us? Really? What do they intend to do if we ignore them? Normally, when you warn somebody there are some implied consequences if they don't heed your warning. Are they going to severely chastise us?

well, Saudi Arabia does need weapons so that it can do its job for once. however, i'm not entirely opposed to letting them get their arms from someone else. ****, i can't easily find a piece of clothing labeled "Made in the USA," but i turn on the TV and see Mubarak's government shooting US made tear gas at Egyptian protesters trying to get rid of their dictator. that's ****ing depressing.

Two thoughts. It's absolutely wrong if these homes weren't being used by militants. Second, what makes AI so sure they weren't? I can't imagine how they would know that.

Warns? Are they going to do something to us?

Amnesty needs to take a seat.

Our support for Saudi Arabia needs to end. But it will not.

We've made enough stupid FP decisions, we don't need to make another one.

I have never thought much of Amnesty. It is true that it would be good for SA to become more democratic etc. But considering the situation in the Middle East? They're mad or malevolent.

It reminds me of Hans Blix in Team America "we will be very angry with you, and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are"

This is absolutely shocking!!!!! Saudi woud have to keep up with their bombing raids for the next century to keep up with civilian casualties caused by american forces in the last two wars!!!

Saudi needs to step up its game!!

Amnesty should worry about bombing, not bombs. So often we blame behaviors on the tools used to misbehave.

Absolutely. Those people would be less dead if the Saudis had used Russian bombs dropped from Russian planes.

Any word from Amnesty about the Russians killing civilians in Syria? No? Must be some commies over at Amnesty, eh?

They have no access to any of the scenes or any actual direct evidence for anything, so they have no way of knowing what happened where.
They just throw empty statements to the air to satisfy their political obssessions that's what this buffoonish organization is all about.

If our protection of Saudi Arabia ends, it might just turn to Russia

AI does thorough research. Read the report https://www.amnesty.org/download/Documents/MDE3125482015ENGLISH.pdf

It's very telling how much conservatives hate and prejudge the leading human rights groups.

It is a lot harder to bomb when you don't have bombs.

When the facts are available, making stuff up is unnecessary.

"Methodology
This report is based on Amnesty International field research in Sa’da governorate, in June and July 2015. Two Amnesty International delegates visited multiple air strike locations and investigated the circumstances and impact of the attacks. They examined fragments from munitions used in the attacks and weapons experts later analyzed photographs and video footage of the munition remnants.

Amnesty International researchers interviewed 40 survivors, families of victims, witnesses, medical and NGO personnel and activists on the ground.
All interviews were conducted in Arabic.

In September 2015, Amnesty International wrote to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence detailing its findings, and requesting information about the choice of targets and decision-making process and rationale behind the airstrikes documented in this report. The organization requested that the Saudi Arabian authorities share the findings of any investigations that may have been carried out so far into these cases. At the time of publication, Amnesty International had not received any response from the Saudi Arabian authorities."

They do not have access to videos of the Saudi airstrikes, to how the decision to commit an airstrike against any specific target was made and they have no cooperation whatsoever from the Saudi command. I am fully aware that they rely on witness accounts and am more than familiar with their ridiculous "reports". They say there that the Saudis have targeted civilians, that might be true, that might not be true, they have no way of knowing enough so to decide which is true and which is false, so absolutely they do throw empty statements to the air so to satisfy their political obssessions and always have been doing so. AI is a buffoonish organization.
