Make no mistake. The Progressive movement, and Obama in particular, really does intend to "transform America".

Usually, that's an abstract term used to create abstract feelings, but for Obama and the Progs, this is to be taken quire literally.

The drive to make America a socialist country is well on its way, but many willfully or unwillfully refuse to see it for one simple reason.

Socialism, like Rome, can not be built in a day.

It takes years...many years, and most likely, decades...before the results are realized.

His defenders will point out things like the intention to release GM from government clutches or the fact that he didn't try for universal healthcare, but they completely miss the point.

Obama is not dumb. He knows, just like a good 80% of this country knows, that a lurch too far left in a short period of time will lead to backlash. We've seen much of a backlash already, but not to a point of rejection. He successfully walked that line between pretending to be a centrist on some issues and outright showing his true goals, and that got him re-elected.

ObamaCare isn't the successful completion of a new way to deal with healthcare issues. It's nothing more than a beginning. Phase One. The proverbial foot in the door so it can be swung open when the time is right. At some point in the future, when Obama has been long enjoying the speaker circuit, the progressives will complain that ObamaCare isn't enough. Welcome Phase Two.

By that time...when the nation becomes "used to" ObamaCare because its been around so long...There will be a cry, from the same people that lied, cheated and stole to get ObamaCare in the first place, for the next step (public option), which will seem much less severe than when ObamaCare was first implemented and the country will be more accepting.

Of course, at an "X" amount of time later, the call for an outright government takeover will be demanded and universal healthcare will be...once again...much more acceptable to the nation since Phase Two has been around for awhile. Mission Accomplished.

This process can be seen through much of his policies. Getting used to $3.50 for a gallon of gas. 7% unemployment would look downright spectacular. Welfare, which was once a scarlet letter of guilt in the American mindframe, is now a badge of honor that should be flashed to show you're rightfully getting what you deserve.

Pure and simple, these are the baby steps Obama is purposefully creating to "transform" America away from its original intent. Obama knows this will not be completed during his term, and might not fully come to fruition until after he passes and thanks Jesus for keeping his seat warm at the right hand of the Father.

But his term, and his goal, is NOT to be the end result of Socialism. It is to be just the beginning...the catalyst...the inspiration...

In other words, the Founding Father of America 2.0.

In order to create an economy where the means of production are controlled and operated by the state, we must enact medical reform which increases private insurer rolls and tries to reduce the costs and influence of a payer system which does not operate the healthcare being performed. The first two you should take up with Republicans as they are the biggest backers of agriculture subsidies and energy subsidies. As for phone, that's actually funded by the carriers, not the taxpayer.

yes, america is in need of a huge change. Our problems are very much based on huge inconsistencies in a world market and ideas that are based on frontier thinking. It is not a bad thing to change, and it is actually stagnation that seems to be the downfall of society. So the proper point of view is to look to change america in a proper direction, not to freak out because america has to change.

No it is litteral. technology alone is transforming america from what it was. It is happening and you cannot stop it.

There is a reasonable thought that we are more capable as a society to provide more things for our people than we were before. Socialism is not always bad. the idea that socialism is some sort of evil is really an ignorant idea. We live in a society that already has socialist aspects. Now we are trying to figure out if we can incorporate other things into that socialist structure and bring things like health care and food to all people. this is not a bad thing. this means our society is growing strong. All the doom and gloom misses a point, we are far more capable and stronger than we were a century ago and the biggest danger to the US is no longer disaster but ourselves. It is reasonable to ask whether or not we can clothe shelter, feed, or heal everyone. Those are questions we should be asking, and they are not evil questions despite the attempts to make them seem evil.

What is this evil socialism? it is providing food for all people. it is providing education for all people. It is providing shelter for all people. it is providing medicine and clothing for all people. Is that evil? This is exactly what socialism is. it is making certain levels of living conditions standard minimums. It is not communism which declares maximums, it just declares minimums.

I have to agree. The government cannot simply say tomorrow we will give medicine to everyone. it is not prepared to do so at the moment. That doesn't mean we should not work towards certain socialist goals. We could say that we are going to provide food for everyone. We can set a level of nutrition, and we can monitor consumption and distribute the food. We are capable of that. We are also capable of saying food is something we will always need so we will fund farms and farming to meet the needs of our society. We will make sure they exist and are maintained because we will need that. That is socialism.

The bailout is not socialism. it was an emergency fix to maintain capitalism. If it were socialist we would be distributing cars via our new state car manufacturer and people who work would have a right to them as they need. that is not the case, and it is far from the case.

I hope this is not becoming an Obama is an evil socialist rant. First off you seem to be confused on how socialism works when you say the bailout is socialism. Second you make the argument that it will take a long time to accomplish and obama only has 4 more years. Your fears are unfounded as obama will not be president forever.

I do hope that it is the first step in a conversion from private medicine to a robust public healthcare system. I can see the point that we could not just slap universal healthcare into place in a recession economy and pray things work out. instead the process of conversion goes on for a few years and will hopefully lead to a new and great healthcare system for all of us. That is not evil. providing medicine to all people is not a bad thing or a dastardly plan to ruin the world. it makes all of our lives better.

i would imagine that once things have been running smoothly for a while that would be what happens. you said before that change takes time and the objections to universal healthcare seem to be that it would be to radical a shift given our present situation and cause lots of harm. So wouldn't a progressive change towards that goal which minimizes the shock be a good solution to take away the major objection to government healthcare?

Actually, they allowed for change of the constitution because they knew it would have to evolve.
