I am so sick of nonsense like this. I would think a young girl would have enjoyed the protection security following her gave her. But no, she was being "racially" profiled, not just profiled.
And of course we only have her interpretation of the event. An interpretation through the eyes of one that sees everything as radical victimization.

Only 22 years old and she sees the world persecuting her every day. She should get her eyes checked.

When was the last time you were stopped on the street by security, told you "look suspicious" and had to "prove" you belonged there?
If your answer is never, you are not really qualified to judge the impact.

I had the police called on me for watering my yard. Does that count?

No, not if they didn't question you as to whether or not it was your lawn. Someone called the cops on you? Were you watering on the wrong day?

They absolutely questioned me if it was my house. A neighbor called because I guess I looked suspicious. Of course I didn’t have my ID because who carries ID to do yard work? It took a good 20 minutes of answering questions before he let me go get it.

Good grief, there have been many who have been stopped for questioning and it had nothing to do with race. When I was young and employed at a major department store they held an associates night where associates could shop for a few hours and receive 25% off their purchases. They did this in the Spring and Fall every year. One night I was shopping for clothing and intimate apparel like bras and panties. The security guard on duty, a young man pulled me aside and basically accused me of shoplifting the same race as I am. He then proceeded to go through all my purchases including every pair of panties and every bra and checking my receipts for proof of purchase. I filed a report against him.

Hubby and I had not been married long and he left for work early in the morning in his Ford Torino convertible (a sweet car with awesome mag wheels) and 4 cop cars with their sirens blaring and lights on pulled him over. He wasn't speeding and befuddled on why they wanted him to pull over. All four officers had their weapons drawn and ordered him out of the car. They told him to raise his hands while they patted him down for weapons. Still befuddled he had no idea why he was being put through all this and really concerned with one of the officers with a weapon drawn was shaking. Then they asked him for his driver's license and registration. What seemed like a lifetime to him they came back and said his car matched the description of the car involved in a bank robbery and murder. But hubby being white did not match the depiction of the one who was wanted. So they told him he was free to go. But hubby pissed off at this time told them because they pulled him over and put him through all of this will make him late for work. So two police cars with their lights on before him and two police cars behind him escorted him to his place of employment allowing him to make it to work on time.

This is gonna be unpopular, but if you are walking home at night by yourself, whether you are male, female, white, black, whatever you are, you are vulnerable and have to be ready for anything.

It does not surprise me in the least that republicans are enraged by Amanda Gorman.

Imust be a racist. It can't be because I have seen this kind of thing numerous times in my life and know it's almost always bullshit.

What is missing is the "security guard" view of the incident or any witnesses.
She may be right or not about being "profiled". She may be one that jumps to conclusions. Would like to hear the guard's view on this.

So the police thought you were illegally watering someone else's yard?

Did you have poor relations with the neighbor, or was there a watering ban in place at the time. I can not see the police spending much time questioning a person who has a garden hose, watering the grass

Well perhaps if your only your appearance made you suspicious and not your actions, than you know to some degree what Gorman felt.
I hope you are not denying that people of color often have different experiences with the police than white people.

I will say that while the area I was watering is part of my yard, it’s not really obvious it’s part of my property. It’s also behind my house so whoever called may not have seen the hose. I’m sure I looked like a bum too.

Where's the probable cause to be harassed by cops?

Zimmerman was Latino, but hey, don't let that spoil the narrative. (Nor the eyewitness that backed up Zimmerman's account, for that matter.)

Do you know her personally, or are you just making an assumption that she sees everything as the world is persecuting her because of her race?

I would imagine that being followed by a security guard because he thinks you look suspicious and that you don't look like you live in your own neighborhood doesn't exactly make one feel like they have extra protection. I would guess that it feels more like a threat. Though, admittedly, I wouldn't know for sure, since I am privileged enough to have never had this happen to me.

"Sir, thank you for keeping an eye out and helping to make this neighborhood safer for those of us who live here."

(Some words just aren't "poetic" enough, I guess.)

The eyewitness claimed he never say Martin smashing Zimmerman's head into the pavement.

Yes, do keep an eye out for 16 year old girls who are a danger to the neighborhood they live in.

Or maybe "Thank you for protecting my neighbors from people who look like me."

You don't have your facts straight.

John Good told the jury today that he yelled "stop" at both men shortly after realizing that what he at first assumed to be a dog attack was actually two men grappling on the ground.
"I said cut it out. I'm calling 911 because it was getting serious," said Good.
Good testified that he saw what he believed to be Martin on top of Zimmerman.
"The color on top was dark and the color at bottom was…red," Good said referring to the men's clothing.
At another point he told the court that the person on the bottom had "lighter skin color."
Zimmerman is a white Hispanic who was wearing a red and black jacket that night. Martin, who was black, was wearing a dark sweatshirt.
"The person on the bottom, I could hear a 'Help,'" he said.

Additionally, the forensic evidence is entirely consistent with this testimony and Zimmerman's. Zimmerman had grass on his back, a broken nose, and lacerations on the back of head head consistent with it coming into contact with a hard, rough surface.
